After a 15-season hiatus, men’s basketball returned to Coral Gables and the University of Miami campus for the 1985-86 season. In their first game back on the hardwood, the Canes knock off The Citadel 85-77 and would win their first three games of the season. The Canes finished 14-14 in their first season since 1970-71.

Behind Enemy Lines is a weekly feature on HurricaneSports.com, highlighting the pas-sion of Miami fans in opposing team territory.

MIAMI FORGOES BOWL OPPORTUNITY IN 2012 In an unprecedented move, the University of Miami decided to withhold the football team from bowl consideration for the second consecutive season. The decision was made in response to the ongoing NCAA inquiry and also means that should the Miami football team qualify for the ACC Championship Game, it will not be eligible to participate. Interim Director of Athletics Blake James informed the team of the decision Monday, two days after the Hurricanes became bowl eligible with their sixth victory of the season. After being picked to finish fifth in the preseason, the Miami Hurricanes (6-5, 4-3 ACC) have the chance to secure a share of the ACC Coastal Division crown Saturday at Duke (6-5, 3-4 ACC). It would be Miami’s first conference title (division or overall) since joining the ACC.

ACC TITLE ON THE LINE FOR VB

After playing 19 Atlantic Coast Conference matches each, rivals Miami and Florida State have identical 17-2 league records heading into the regular season finale on Friday in Tallahassee, Fla. The winner-take-all championship tilt will begin at 1 p.m. at Tully Gym and will be broadcast live on ESPN3.

“It is going to be fun – Florida State is a great team and we know that,” head coach Nicole Lantagne Welch said. “We had a great match with them earlier in the year and we are going to expect their best on Friday. In order to win, we will have to play at our very best. It is setting up for a great situation; everyone in our program is looking forward to it.”

Miami (25-4) defeated then-No. 6 Florida State at the Knight Sports Complex on Sept. 7 in front of a record crowd and na-tional television audience (ESPNU). It was the first win over a top-10 team in volleyball in school history. Junior right side Alex Johnson, a native of Tallahassee, notched a match-high 16 kills to go with 16 digs to earn ACC Player of the Week. After the final point was won, the enthusiastic student section rushed the court to celebrate the victory.

“We played at a very high level and served and passed very well,” Lantagne Welch said after the match. “Our offense was in great rhythm. We used a lot of our quickness and speed to beat them.”

Miami proved that the win was no fluke, earning the most ACC wins in school history, 17. UM is the only team to have de-feated all 11 conference opponents.

The Seminoles (26-3) lead the all-time series 21-18-1 dating back to 1978, with UM taking the last two meetings at home. FSU won the latest matchup at Tully Gym in three sets on Sept. 14, 2010.

The Hurricanes will be looking to end Florida State’s 25-match winning streak at home, being the last team to win on their court on Nov. 26, 2010. FSU has won three ACC titles, while UM will be looking to clinch its first.

For more information on the matchup, follow HurricaneSports.com leading up to Friday.

Sebastian the Ibis, the University of Miami’s famous mascot, is one of 16 spirited heroes vying to become the 2012 Capital One Mascot of the Year, announced Monday by Capital One. Sebastian is one of three ACC mascots in the competition, joining Testudo (Maryland) and Ms. Wuf (NC State).

Fans will be able to vote for their favorite mascots via Twitter. Regular season vote officially opens at 12 p.m. EDT on Mon., Sept. 3, and continues weekly through Mon., Nov. 26. The top eight mascots with the best head-to-head records will then compete in a bracket-style, single-elimination competition to determine the overall winner. Fans can vote at www.CapitalOneBowl.com, on Facebook and on Twitter. All voting information appears at www.CapitalOneBowl.com.

For the first time in its 11-year history, the competition will include two female mascots – Ms. Wuf and Wilma T. Wildcat from Arizona. The duo will be joined by four oth-er competition newbies – Colorado State’s Cam the Ram, Missouri’s Truman the Tiger, Rutgers’ Scarlet Knight and Texas Tech’s Red Raider.

The rest of the 16-member 2012 Capital One All-Amer-ica Mascot Team includes Cosmo (BYU), Sparty (Michi-

gan State), Mike the Tiger (LSU), Wolfie Jr. (Nevada), YoUDee (Delaware), Bucky Badger (Wisconsin), The Duck (Oregon) and Cocky (South Carolina).

In addition to the 2012 team, Western Kentucky’s Big Red became the first inductee into the Capital One Mas-cot Challenge Hall of Fame. Big Red competed eight times in the Capital One Mascot Challenge.

This year, fans will get a behind-the-scenes look inside the Capital One Mascot Training Camp. The quirky video vignettes will be released at www.CapitalOneBowl.com and www.Facebook.com/MascotChallenge.

The Capital One National Mascot of the Year will be announced Jan. 1, 2013, at the Capital One Bowl and will be awarded a $20,000 scholarship to help fund its school’s mascot program. Each of the 2012 Capital One All-America team members will also receive $5,000 for their university mascot program.

WBB Inks 11th-Ranked Class

The University of Miami women’s basketball 2013 early signing class is ranked No. 11 in the nation by the All Star Girls Report. Head Coach Katie Meier officially announced the program’s signees on Thursday. The group, comprised of three high school standouts, is Adrienne Motley (Newport News, Va.), Nigia Greene (Atlanta, Ga.) and Jessica Thomas (Gainesville, Fla.). The trio will join the Hurricanes for the 2013-14 academic year. “This signing class will be another Top 20 class and I think that has become the norm at the University of Miami,” head coach Katie Meier said. “That is a total credit to my staff for the efforts they have committed to recruiting, in addition to the success we have been having on the court. “Recruiting is the lifeline of any major program. We went up against some big time programs this year and were successful in getting three very dynamic, athletic and threatening guards.” Motley, a 5-9 guard from Woodside High School, has been ranked the No. 27 overall prospect and the seventh best point guard in the nation by ESPN HoopGurlz. Averaging 24.3 points per game in her junior season, Motley lead the Wolverines past tournament favorite DFW-Elite 2012 for an upset win. Despite a broken nose, she delivered timely free throws and defensive stops to secure the victory. As the undisputed team leader, Motley was recognized by ESPN as being a court-aware, athletic penetrator with a knack for scoring. “Adrienne is a complete player,” Meier said. “She is polished, smooth and has a very high basketball I.Q. She loves our style of play and is a perfect fit for our system. She is also that multidi-mensional guard that can play the point and bring you the cerebral game, while being able to move off the ball and score in bunches. “She is a floor leader, and she and I have a ‘like mind’. I’m really excited to have someone that can think the game and play fast. She will be a very successful player at the University of Miami.” Nigia Greene is a four-star prospect according to ESPN HoopGurlz. She is ranked No. 41 overall, and the ninth-best guard in the nation. The 5-10 guard transferred from Southwest Atlanta to St. Francis High School before her junior season, in which she averaged 18.6 points, 2.0 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game. She led the Knights to the third round of the 2012 Georgia Girls State Basketball Playoffs. “Nigia is very athletic, but also is a high I.Q. wing player who will give our fans some of the same athleticism and open-court play that we have gotten used to at Miami,” Meier said. “She is extremely skilled and fundamental, which is rare in a player that is known as a slasher. “Defensively, I think she has a chance to be one of the best play-ers we have ever signed. I think she will shore up that wing position for us. She comes from a super background and is another special person that we are excited to have.” Jessica Thomas is ranked the 48th best point guard in the nation by ESPN HoopGurlz. In 2011, the 5-6 guard led the Buchholz High School Bobcats to the semifinals of the Florida Girls State Basket-ball Playoffs. She is the younger sister of Hurricane legend Lamar Thomas. “Jessica is already a Cane, with her brother, Lamar, having his history at The U,” Meier said. “She is so excited to be a part of the family, but I think she is going to surprise everybody. She is a little bit under the radar, but we have had our eye on her for a long time and have been able to see her grow and develop. “We have had her at our camps and she’s very hard to guard. She’s a little reminiscent of Renee Taylor, in that she pushes tempo, is always in attack mode and can also play off the ball and get herself free for some shots. She has an incredible motor. She was one of the most competitive kids I saw all summer in the recruiting circuit. “This combination of these three guards is quite a statement for where our program is going. They are all very different from each other, but they all share passion for the game and play with an ex-tremely high level of intensity, which has me the most excited.”

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING

Bret McCormick of All Star Girl’s Report Recruiting Service Miami comes in with the No. 11 recruiting class in the coun-try. The ACC dominated the top recruiting classes across the country. Miami has definitely replenished their backcourt. They have had extraordinary guards in the past and will continue for the future. They are set for four years. Green is a big time guard with great all-around game. She is a big guard and can score. Will impact the program from Day One. Motley is great athlete and is tremendous with the ball in her hands. She will run the show for the Canes. Thomas is explosive to the rim, understands the game with a good skill set. Thomas is a sleeper.

Keil Moore of PeachStateBasketball.com With their 2013 recruiting class, University of Miami coach Katie Meier and her staff looked to add quality perimeter scor-ing options. The additions of Nigia Greene of Atlanta, Ga., Adrienne Motley of Newport News, Va., and Jessica Thomas of Gainesville, Fla., will do just that. In 2012, Meier and her staff focused on post play with their re-cruiting class, which earned a No. 19 ranking nationally. This year, in an effort to balance the roster Miami focused on the perimeter when they went up to Atlanta, Ga., to score a 5-foot-10 wing like Greene who plays the game with a smoothness and brings a nice shooting touch every time she takes the floor. Greene has the size and athleticism to play both wing positions at the next level and should be able to contribute early in her career. Joining Greene in the backcourt will be 5-foot-9 point guard Adrienne Motley who is coming off an excellent summer play-ing on the club basketball circuit. Motley should be an excellent fit in Coral Gables as she has the ability to push the ball and make quality decisions in transition, but can also orchestrate the pick and roll and make plays in the halfcourt. The third addition to the University of Miami for the class of 2013 is Jessica Thomas, Thomas is an instate pick up who seems to be a great fit for the style of play at the University of Miami. The 5-foot-6 point guard likes to push the ball in transition and look for teammates early in the break. The Gainesville, Fla., resident will give Miami quality depth in their backcourt and a point guard that they can count on to take care of the basketball and run the offense.

Dan Olson of Collegiate Girl’s Report Jessica Thomas, the sister of Miami great Lamar Thomas, is a very tough point guard. UM has a knack to find the sleeper in a class. She has had a great high school career to this point. She may not be the highest rated, but I’m well aware of who she is. She exhibits speed and athleticism and is a good fit to run Miami’s style of play. Adrienne Motley is a big ultra-athletic combo guard that can fill it up. She plays up-tempo, can create her own shot and knocks down mid-range jumpers. Katie Meier has made Miami a national name to be able to attract players of this caliber. Nigia Greene, like Motley, is another guard with good size and athleticism. If not for a knee injury last season, would have been a Top 30 player. She is clearly one of the nation’s top guards. The Hurricanes have addressed their backcourt needs, as all three are capable of competing at a high level in the ACC.

Miami to Forgo Bowl Game

The University of Miami has made the decision to withhold the football team from bowl consideration for the 2012 postseason. The decision was made in response to the ongoing NCAA inquiry and the University has informed both the NCAA and the Atlantic Coast Conference of its decision. The decision also means that should the Miami football team qualify for the ACC Championship Game, it will not be eligible to participate.

Interim Director of Athletics Blake James informed the team of the decision this morning, two days after the Hur-ricanes became bowl eligible with their sixth victory of the season.

The unprecedented decision to voluntarily withhold the football team from a second consecutive postseason was made by University leadership, including President Shalala, the Office of the General Counsel and Department of Athletics leaders. Considerable deliberation and discussion based on the status of the NCAA inquiry went into the decision-making process and, while acknowledging the impact that the decision will have on current student-athletes, coaches, alumni and fans, a determination was made that voluntarily withholding the football team from a second postseason was not only a prudent step for the University to take but will also allow for the football pro-gram and University to move forward in the most expedited manner possible.

The University and President Shalala have been clear from the start of the inquiry that Miami will cooperate fully and will seek the truth, no matter where the path might lead and that the institution will be stronger because of it. The University has already taken proactive measures to ensure more strict compliance with NCAA rules and continues to evaluate further steps.

No other self-imposed penalties have been issued at this time and to continue to protect the integrity of the in-quiry, the University will have no further comment.

MTennis Inks Bernard Tefel

Head coach Mario Rincon has announced the signing of Bernard Tefel to a National Letter of Intent to play men’s tennis for the University of Miami.

“We are very excited about Bernard joining our program,” said Rincon. “He’s a crafty lefty with great shot making ability, and he will only continue to improve in every aspect of the game. We are happy that he de-cided to stay in his hometown to represent the Canes, and we know that he will be a great student-athlete for us.”

A four-star recruit from Miami, Fla., Tefel holds a 20-7 record against four-star players and is 17-0 against players ranked three-star and below.

“We are excited and fortunate that Bernard will be joining us at the University of Miami next year,” said as-sistant coach Mark Dickson. “Many college coaches recognize his potential and he was recruited by some strong programs. Bernard is an extremely nice young man and an excellent player with the mind-set to improve. I like his competitiveness as well as his ability to attack and neutralize his opponents. He will con-tribute to our program right away.”

The University of Miami opens the spring tennis season in early January. For complete results and more information about Miami men’s tennis, check out the Canes on Facebook at www.facebook.com/MiamiHur-ricanesMensTennis and follow the team on Twitter @CanesMensTennis.

Behind Enemy Lines

Behind Enemy Lines is a weekly feature on HurricaneSports.com, highlighting the passion of Miami fans in oppos-ing team territory. And if you’re reading this from North Carolina, give us a shout at @HurricaneSports – we want to hear from you.

Larry King | Tampa, Fla.How did you become a Hurricanes fan?“It started when I was 12 years old when I went to my first UM football game with my sister, who was going to UM. Miami lost to Notre Dame 44-0 and I remember staying until the end and thinking how great it would be if Mi-ami could ever beat the Fighting Irish. Flash forward to 1985, and I was in the Orange Bowl when we beat Notre Dame 56-7! That game was payback for me 12 years later!”

Do you find it difficult supporting Miami all the way from Tampa?“Well, while USF is the home team, this is a Gator town. The local sports paper on Sundays has the Gators as the headline, then the Noles, then the Bulls and the Canes are on page four. But there are many Canes fans here. I see license plates and stickers on many cars. I make it a point to reach out to show the U hand sign.”

Is there a place you visit to watch Hurricanes games in the city?I am very active in the alumni association and Hurricane Club. We have our game watch parties at CDB’s Southside in Tampa, as well as the Cheval Athletic Club, which I own. When the Canes play USF here in Tampa, we have a BBQ tailgate that packs in more than 400 UM fans! Nothing is better than being in Raymond James Stadium and hearing ‘We got some Canes over here!’”

How do you support the Hurricanes – Any apartment decorations? Favorite piece of Canes gear? Travel for games?“I support the Canes in many ways. I am a season ticket holder, and I have also supported the Theodore G. Schwartz and Todd G. Schwartz Center for Athletic Excellence. I am a alumni regional director and enjoy working with our groups in the southeast to support the Canes. My office is loaded with UM gear and my biggest challenge is dressing my kids in more UM gear than my wife’s school...FSU (ugh)! I like to travel to one to two games a year. This year I went to Chicago, and will be in Durham for the Duke game next week.”

So many to remember, but I think it will always be the first National Cham-pionship win at the OB in 1983. It was such a dream and a surreal feeling when the pass was broken up at the end that would have won the game for Nebraska. Miami was not supposed to have a chance and the way all the other bowl games played out that day, it gave us a chance. The entire day was dramatic and culminated with one of the greatest games in the history of college football.”

IN THE RED ZONEThrough 11 games, the Miami Hurricanes are converting 87 percent of their red zone opportunities (40 of 46), which ranks as the fourth-best percentage in the ACC.

22 of Miami’s last 23 red zone trips have resulted in a score, including 12 touchdowns.

Dating back to the third quarter of its 44-37 win Sept. 29 vs. NC State, Miami has converted 18 consecutive red zone trips in ACC play, including 13 TDs

Wieclaw has made every PAT on his UM career, a perfect 76-of-76 on point-after attempts.

A roster comprised of nearly 50 freshmen.

A team picked to finish fifth in the ACC Coastal Division, according to the preseason poll released in July.

Despite Miami’s choice to self-impose a bowl ban for a second consecutive season, the Hurricanes are on the cusp of something they haven’t done since joining the ACC prior to the 2004 season – win the ACC Coastal Division. That’s a big accomplishment for the Canes, who haven’t won a conference title of any kind – division or not – since their last year in the Big East Conference in 2003.

It would the program’s 10th conference title. Of course, it would be its first conference division title (the BIG EAST didn’t have divisions during Miami’s tenure).

The Canes have plenty to play for on Saturday in Durham. A win gives the Canes a share of the ACC Coastal Division with Georgia Tech, who would advance to the ACC Championship game Dec. 1 in Charlotte. But a share of the Coastal crown could be the beginning of something very special in Coral Gables. It’s a program-changer. A statement.

Al Golden is the right man for the job and his team will return 10 of 11 starters on offense. Oh yeah... and Duke Johnson would only be a sophomore in 2013 and Phillip Dorsett a junior. Not to mention all the other freshmen and sophomores that have made a significant impact for the Hurricanes in 2012.

#ElDuque has the chance to break Miami’s single-season freshman rushing record and – with the aid of a kickoff return or two – could also break the school’s single-season all-purpose yardage mark.

The defense continues to get better each week and has already forced seven more turnovers this season (22) than it did all of last season (15). Miami’s defensive nucleus is young and talented – its linebacking corps consists of freshman Eddie Johnson; sophomores Gionni Paul, Denzel Perryman and Thurston Armbrister; and junior Jimmy Gaines. Its secondary is full of talented underclassmen.

Title ImplicationsDespite self-imposed bowl ban, Canes can still clinch share of ACC Coastal

Rankings according to AVCA/CBS poll at time of match, Miami ranking in parentheses.

DID U KNOW?Miami will be looking to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth straight season.

A Hurricane has won ACC Player of the Week five times this season, most in the league. Four different players have been honored.

Senior setter Nrithya Sundararaman maintains a 3.90 GPA as a neurobiology major.

No. 24 Miami volleyball put together another convincing performance Sunday to sweep Maryland, 3-0, to complete the regular season a perfect 13-0 at the Knight Sports Complex. The victory sets up a winner-take-all match for the Atlantic Coast Conference title on Friday at Florida State.

The Hurricanes improved to 25-4 and 17-2 in the league, winning by the scores of 25-18, 25-19 and 25-15 over the Terrapins. The 17 conference wins are the most in program history, beating last season’s mark of 16.

Prior to the match, the program honored the contributions of senior setter Nrithya Sundararaman, who ranks third all-time in school history with 2,257 career assists. She picked up 35 on the day to orchestrate the offensive performance.

“Nrithya did a nice job of getting the ball to our hitters,” head coach Nicole Lantagne Welch said. “It is great to have the team functioning so well on this day. Overall, I thought we were

able to serve tough and handle our passing pretty well throughout the match. Nrithya put us in some good situations with her sets, which allowed us to be effective on offense. Also, we were able to pick up our defensive efforts as the match went on.”

Junior Alex Johnson led the Canes with 10 kills, reaching double-digits for the 13th time this season. Sophomores Alexis Mourning and Savanah Leaf added nine kills each, as Miami collected a .283 hitting percentage in the match.

Defensively, junior libero Ryan Shaffer had a match-high 21 digs to help hold the Terps to a .144 hitting percentage. She leads the team with 506 digs (4.77/set) on the season.

The victory was the 17th straight win at home and the 29th in the last 30. The only other season UM had a perfect home regular season was in 1980 (5-0). This year, the Hurricanes won 39 sets at home while dropping only seven.

NO SOPHOMORE SLUMPSophomore guard Michelle Woods has not fallen victim to the dreaded sophomore slump in the early stages of the 2012-13 season. After just three games, the Naples, Fla., native is averaging 18.7 points per game and has reached new career high twice.

With Shenise Johnson and Riquna Williams on the team a season ago, Woods averaged only 3.1 points per game. However, against UNF in the season-opener, she poured in 19 points. Just three nights later in Richmond, Woods put up another career-best 20 points.

When 20th-ranked Tennessee built a 27-point lead against Miami on Nov. 18, Woods led the Cane’s comeback attempt, scoring a team-best 17 points in closing the gap to just six points.

1,000-POINT CLUBWith just six more points, senior Morgan Stroman will become the 22nd player in program history to reach the 1,000-point plateau.

HISTORIC DEFENSEThe Hurricanes held North Florida to just 24 points on 14 percent shooting in the season-opening 77-24 victory. The 24 points allowed is the fewest allowed against an NCAA team in UM history.

On the highest shelf of the grandiose bookcase that stands proudly behind Katie Meier’s desk, overlooking the war room belonging to one of college basketball’s great generals, lies one word spelled out in white ceramic tiles: dream.

Below on her desk, cluttered with papers ranging from practice notes scribbled in black ink to the lengthy game tape analysis scattered about, the scene is anything but dream-like.

But as she prepared for the Hurricanes’ looming matchup with perennial powerhouse Tennessee, a challenge for which she felt both excited and confident, the contest seemed very much like a dream realized.

It wasn’t always like this.Rewind to a particularly bleak span beginning

back in 2006, her second season as head coach of the Hurricanes, when Miami compiled a total of 30 wins over the next three years. The team struggled in conference play, often looking overmatched once starters were out of gas. The Hurricanes won nine games in 2007-2008. Nine.

“It was tough. I’ve coached games where we’ve lost by 60,” Meier recalls, shaking her head.

But press fast forward, and hit pause just before the start of the 2010-11 season. Watch the next few games, and you’ll see the latter stages of a brilliant transformation in place since Meier’s arrival in 2005.

The type of ferocity, recklessness, and high energy that defined her team’s play on the BankUnited Center parquet would catalyze the beginnings of a 41-game home winning streak, the second-longest streak in the nation and one very much alive to this day.

By year’s end, Miami had made the unprecedented leap from bottom of the cellar to top of the conference, and the Canes had racked up 28 wins and an NCAA Tournament berth.

Think it was easy? Dream on.

Meier recalls a stretch in 2006 when the Canes played Maryland, North Carolina and Duke - all of whom earned No. 1 rankings at some point that season - within a two-week span. All three would advance to the Final Four.

“I’ve coached games here where, straight up, we didn’t have a chance,” Meier says. “We’re not in that position anymore.”

As the Hurricanes prepare for Sunday, the growth and maturation of the program is evident - even to her.

“When you’re building a team, and you go up against a great programs like Tennessee, or Rutgers, or any of the teams we’ve played, you have to have depth,” Meier said. “In the early years, you knew you had five that could play with five. But when your five got tired and their second five was up against your tired first five, you would lose the game.”

Not anymore. After graduating two of the conference’s

most prolific scorers last season, the Hurricanes opened their 2012-13 campaign with the most sound defensive performance in program history, holding North Florida to a record-low 24 points. They won the game by over 50 points.

Still, Miami entered practice the next day hungry and ready to atone for the previous night’s poor shot selection and lack of team chemistry. With a collective intensity matched only by their own head coach, the Hurricanes know 2012-13 is the type of year to dream - and dream big.

“I don’t care who we’re playing right now, we have a solution to whatever problems they pose,” Meier said. “I told the team that it’s on us this season. I really want them to know that about themselves.”

A Dream Realized...The Hurricanes have gained respect in the nation’s women’s basketball landscape

DID U KNOW?The Hurricanes had an impressive total of seven newcomersthatregisteredgoalsintheirfirstseasons at Miami. Freshmen Ava Ambrose, Ally Andreini, Paige Lombard, Jasmine Paterson, Allie Rossi, Amy Schmidt and junior Jesse Shugg all tallied in 2012.

The Miami Hurricanes enjoyed another successful season on the pitch, qualifying for the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship field of 64 for the second straight season and fifth time in program history.

Despite falling to No. 18 UCF in penalty kicks in the opening round of the postseason, Miami’s hot finish to their regular season earned them a chance to continue their season into November.

Miami reeled off four of a possible six points with three of its final four regular season matches coming against ranked opponents - double-overtime draws with Boston College and Virginia Tech sandwiched around an overtime win over Maryland.

In need of a win on the last day of the regular season, the Hurricanes knocked off in-state rival and first-ranked Florida State in the game’s final stages. A late tally from Ashley Flinn pushed Miami into the eight-team conference tournament for the first time since 2008.

Despite falling 2-1 in overtime in the opening round of the ACC Championship, Miami was one of nine representatives from the conference to qualify for the NCAA Soccer Championship. It was the second straight season the ACC had led all conferences in

tournament representatives. The Hurricanes would go up early against

the Knights, as freshman Ally Andreini’s header gave Miami an early 1-0 advantage. A late flurry from the hosts resulted in an equalizer with five minutes to go in the match. After two extra periods of overtime, neither side had taken the lead - forcing the game into further dramatics with penalty kicks, where UCF prevailed.

The Hurricanes will return many of the key players who helped guide the team to its 9-7-4 record. Freshman All-ACC selection Jasmine Paterson (two goals, three assists), junior midfielder Tara Schwitter (two goals, two assists) and defenders Blake Stockton, Maddie Simms and Shannon McCarthy, alongside sophomore goalkeeper Emily Lillard, will all factor heavily into Miami’s plans this coming spring and beyond.
