Recliners Recliners should be purchased from a reputable furniture store. Be sure to order them well in advance. They should be the type of chair that can go right up against the wall and slide out. Do not buy “rocker” recliners because a roomful of rocking clients during an acceleration does not work. Choose a color that goes with the carpeting, probably a burgundy or a blue -- not navy blue, but a softer blue. Once you have the carpet sample, you can begin to match the recliners. Be sure to buy cloth recliners of a strong, durable fabric. Have the chairs Scotch-guarded. Avoid vinyl or leather recliners because, in hot weather, clients stick to the seats and leave perspiration trails. Once you have set up your rooms you’ll want to secure the recliners to the floor using masonry anchors. Securing the recliners to the floor will prevent possible tipping and the re-arranging of the room after each session. The PorterVision corporate office uses and recommends the Berkline Recliner. (Catalog #425-46 Wallaway® Recliner, Dimensions: H. 42" W.34 1/2" SD.21" OD. 37") To purchase the Berkline Recliner, contact the Corporate Office for current prices and shipping costs.

Audio Visual Equipment for Hypnosis Room This illustration is for positioning of the equipment; this setup does not show the CD Recorder. In this illustration, the hypnotist’s chair is on the right-hand side and the Berkline is on the left-hand side so the wire on the glasses does not end up across the client’s body. Ensure that the positioning of the chairs is such that the hypnotist has the ability to comfortably touch the hand or arm of the client. The equipment that is needed for this recommended setup includes:

Below is a possible stacking sequence for the 3- Channel Mixer, CD Recorder and Cassette Recorder.

Place the ZenFrames on the side closest to the client. Use the 42-2551 cable to attach the first of the two audio outs on the light and sound machine with the line in for channel one on the mixing board. The line-one slider will now be used to adjust the sound from the ZenFrames (the sound level is to be turned up all the way on the ZenFrames). The glasses from the ZenFrames will go directly from the ZenFrames to the client. Place the MP3 player on the side closest to the hypnotist. Use the 42-2551 cable to attach the line out or headphone out from the MP3 player’s line out to the line in on channel two on the mixing board. The line-two slider will now be used for the sound level on the MP3 player. The player should have all of the center’s MP3 processes available to play for the client, plus the “Alexander” music to use as background during the personal recording process.

Plug the hypnotist’s microphone audio jack into the Cassette or CD deck audio out on the front of the unit (whichever unit is being used at the time). Plug the microphone into the microphone in jack on the mixing board. In some cases an 1/8” male to 1/8” female 3-foot extension will need to be used. Plug the client’s headset into the headphone jack on top of the mixing board (run the cable around the back for neatness). Take one of the 42-2539 cables and attach it to the record out (red plug) on the back of the mixing board and connect it to the line in (red plug) on the back of the CD Recorder and Cassette recorder. Do the same with the white plugs. This ensures that the complete mix from all sources will be recorded onto whichever system is chosen to record to. *If you want to record from the tape source to a CD, you can attach a 42-2352 cable from the line out on the back of the Cassette Recorder to the line in for channel three on the back of the mixing board. When the line-three slider is up and the cassette deck is playing, the CD recorder can record the tape source. SET-UP FOR 3 CHANNEL MIXER (RADIOSHACK)

1. This should be the A.M., or first time, set-up when entering a hypnosis room.

2. Power on the cassette deck (see cassette deck set-up guide), light and sound machine and mixing board. Pull the sliders (7) down to zero.

3. Set the microphone toggle (6) to “TALK OVER”, with the “CUE” (13) set to “OFF (popped

out).”

4. Set master toggle (10) to “STEREO.”

5. Set master slide (9) to eight.

6. Set channels one, two and three (8) to “LINE.”

7. Set “assign” knobs (11) to “OFF” position.

8. Set the “cue-pgm” knob (14) to the middle position.

9. Set the “microphone treble and bass” (2 & 3) knobs to the middle position.

10. Set the equalizer button (17) to the “OFF” position.

11. Turn the cue level knob (15) to zero. RECORDING SESSION

1. If this is your first recording of the day or first recording in this room, begin with mixer set up (see mixer set up).

2. Position the microphone approximately an inch and a half away from your mouth and,

while talking with the level of voice with which you plan to record, move the dj mic slider (7) up until the led meter (7) registers a full signal (but not into the red).

3. Have the client put on the client headphone and ZenFrames glasses and turn up the “cue level” (15) until the level of your voice is comfortable for them.

4. Turn on the ZenFrames machine with the lights off and the volume set as high as it can go.

5. Place a blank cassette in deck B (12-C) with the screws on the cassette forward (if it is the first recording on that tape) and turn the rec level (16-C) to eight.

6. Confirm that the play direction indicator for the B deck (12-C) points to the right () indicating that you are recording on the front side. If not press (32-B) and confirm.

7. Press the record button for deck B (33-B) (the pause is automatically turned on) and begin to continuously speak in the level of voice with which you plan to record. The light above the rec level (15-C) will flash until it has set itself to the best recording level for your level of voice. During this time you can complete steps eight and nine.

8. Taking for granted that the music source is already playing and is coming in on channel two (7), slide up the channel two slider until you hear the music in your headset. Ask the client if they can hear the background music and if your voice is still easy to hear above it.

9. Taking for granted that the ZenFrames machine is on channel one (7), slide up channel one until the sound mixture between the background music and the beeping works well together as you hear it in your headphones. Confirm with the client that the sound of your voice is still well above the sound of the beeping and the background music.

10. At this point you can begin to turn up the lights on the ZenFrames machine while explaining to the clients that they will always have their eyes closed with the glasses on and having them answer “yes” when they notice the lights. Then fine tune to their comfort level.

11. Confirm that the levels are in good order and, when you are ready, press the “pause” button (36-B) on the cassette deck to begin recording. Confirm that the “counter” (12-C) is actively counting the session (this is not in minutes, so watch the clock!). Remember that during the first 20 count, the tape is running blank tape, so wait until this point before you begin talking.

12. When you are finished with the hypnotic process, you can automatically fade out all of the levels at once by pressing the fader button (20-C). After you press the fader button, make sure you slide the dj mic slider down to zero while the cassette stops to avoid unwanted noise disturbing the client. Press the rewind button (31-B left side) and while it is rewinding you can fill out paperwork, mention any post hypnotic suggestions or count out the client (remembering to turn up the dj mic slider to its original position).

13. It is absolutely essential that you then play (32-B) the process and check the recording to

make sure it is a good recording! If so, take the tape out and write the information on the tape. With the side of the tape you recorded on facing you, punch out the tab on the top left side of the cassette to ensure that it cannot be recorded over.

ACCELERATION SESSION (using a tape or MP3 Player)

1. Turn all of the sliders (7) down to zero, except the “master” (9), which is set to eight.

2. Turn “OFF (popped out)” the cue buttons (13).

3. Confirm that the channel three toggle (8) is set to line three.

4. Switch the channel two toggle to phono two (8).

5. Turn up the “cue level” (13) to the midway point.

6. Have the client put on the client headphones and ZenFrames glasses. Make sure the lights are turned down and the volume is all the way up on the ZenFrames machine.

7. Turn on the ZenFrames machine and bring up the channel one slider (beeping)

(7) until the client can hear them at a low level. Turn up the lights on the glasses until the client is comfortable with them.

8. Place the cassette in either A deck or B deck and press play (29-B or 32-B), after waiting for the tape (or sound source) to lead in, slide up the channel three slider (7) and confirm that the levels are good for the client. If you are using a MP3 player such as the iPod. Select the appropriate file press play, adjust the sound in the same manner you would with a cassette or CD player.

9. Job done!

Theater Audio-Visual Equipment

This is a sample theater setup as used in Mount Pleasant, SC. It is designed with a seating capacity of 11. This sample arrangement has the chairs directly in line and on an angle. This allows the chairs to extend while reclining and gives a full view of the front of the room. The following setup will differ slightly if there is no wiring access through the walls. The wiring will run along the floorboards and be kept together with WireMold (available at Lowes).

When wiring the LCD projector, 2 to 3 cables can be run at once, depending on the projector. These include the 20’ stereo extension cable (or combination of) mentioned above for the audio from the computer to the audio in on the “Data 1” section of the LCD projector. Also use it for the SVGA cable from the computer monitor out to the “Data 1” monitor in and the mouse cable extensions and adapters to connect the mouse out on the computer to the mouse in on the projector (see the manual for the LCD projector for cable types for your unit). When attaching the LCD Projector to the ceiling, note the recommendations of the manufacturer as to the distance from the front wall (display wall).

*Link to excel spreadsheet for Acceleration Room Setup • Each chair in the Acceleration Room should be equipped with an IPod and a

ZenFrames. • Connect the first IPod audio out to one of the two audio jacks on the first

ZenFrames with the male 1/8“ stereo to male 1/8“ stereo cable supplied with the ZenFrames.

• Then use the stereo 1/8” extension (or combination of) available at RadioShack (RS #42-2352) to connect the other ZenFrames audio jack with the appropriate headphones (run the 1/8” extension along the floorboard to the appropriate chair). Set up all the ZenFrames/IPod using the same technique. Run an additional 1/8“ extension for the ZenFrames glasses for each chair.

• From there, the glasses for each chair will plug directly into the corresponding ZenFrames unit glasses out (find the glasses icon on the unit) using the additional length from the adapter cable available at RadioShack (RS #42-2352).

The above acceleration room example does not have a TV with VCR or DVD player. You will need to have a TV with VCR or DVD built in for the playing of the Psycho-Linguistics videos/DVDs. This should be set up in the front of the room so all of the chairs have a good view of the TV. Each acceleration chair will also need to have a hook for the headphones and a pocket for the glasses. The wires can then be attached to the back of the chair to keep them neat and out of the way, and to prevent them from being removed.

Use the sheet metal screws to attach the wires with the plastic clamps to the wooden structure of the frame. Use the masonry anchors to attach the front of the Berkline recliners to the floor to prevent tipping and sliding. Two anchors at the front corners will be sufficient.

Plastic clips and plastic wiring wrap are used to keep the wires together and tucked to the floorboards. A better option is a product available at Lowes and made by WireMold, which uses two-sided tape to attach the wires to the floorboards. It comes in 4’ lengths.

The shelving in the above illustration is standard shelving with fabric attached using Velcro around the edge. The fabric hangs to the floor to hide the wiring and surge protector. The shelving is spaced off of the wall 1/2“ to allow the wiring from the units to slip down the back. There is a diagram illustrating which unit corresponds to the correct chair. Another, smaller shelf is mounted on the wall directly in front of the chairs. Display the processes of the week listed on a flier so the clients can see them, along with the empty cassette cases. If your stand for your TV is long enough you can eliminate the need for the second shelf and display the product next to the TV.

Operating the Acceleration Room The person setting up the clients in the acceleration needs to describe the process about to be played, as well as how the clients can signal whether they want the volume or lights up or down. Turning on the ZenFrames with the sound and lights down low is the best way to start. Bring up the lights first so that the client can still hear you easily. Next, bring the beeping up until the levels are right, doing this for all of the clients. Tell the clients you will stay for a few moments after the process starts, to make sure everything is working. Tell the client to give you a “thumbs up” if the process sound is too low or a “thumbs down” if it is too high. An “OK” sign can be used when everything is good. When the client is watching a Psycho-Linguistics video the staff will need to set up the acceleration once the video has finished.
