As the year comes to a close... It is a strange time of closure as this year comes to an end. We have shifts and changes within our govern-ment and await a New year with promise. In this midst of political upheaval on many levels, there are also changes occurring within our church of Chicago as we will embark on the process of “Renew My Church.” Many areas have seen the impact of the decisions that have been made in parts of our city but we will face them in the next few years. As we begin dialogue and conversation with our neighbors at Our Lady of Mercy, Resurrection, St. Edward’s, we will be asked to discern viability for the future and possible scenarios of how we can serve our spiritual needs and continue to live as disciples rooted in Christ. These are important distinctions: our mission is to evangelize and live out our faith in strong communities. However, we see declining numbers of membership within our churches, a major shift in vocations to religious life in all of its forms and dwindling resources which affect our ability to mission and serve in Christ as we maintain aging physical structures that have important maintenance needs that worsen when money is lacking. As we begin this New year, we seek prayer and guidance of the spirit as we face our future with uncertainty but with hope. I will continue to be part of this journey with you, and I pray that together we may support and encourage our community of faith here at Immaculate Heart of Mary to move into this uncertainty with faith, discipleship and trust. May this New Year bring forth hope for our parish, promise for our future together and faith in the process that will call us to strengthen one another in Christ! Happy New Year! Fr. A medida que el año llega a su fin... Es un momento extraño de cierre ya que este año llega a su fin. Tenemos movimiento y cambios dentro de nuestro gobierno y esperamos un año nuevo con promesa. En medio de la agitación política en muchos niveles, también se están produciendo cambios dentro de nuestra iglesia de Chicago a medida que nos embarcamos en el proceso de "Renovar Mi Iglesia". Muchas áreas han visto el impacto de las decisiones que se han tomado en partes de nuestra ciudad, pero las enfrentaremos en los próximos años. A medida que comencemos el diálogo y la conversación con nuestros vecinos en Nuestra Señora de la Merced, Resurrección, San Eduardo, se nos pedirá que discernamos la viabilidad para el futuro y los posibles escenarios de cómo podemos servir a nuestras necesidades espiritua-les y continuar viviendo como discípulos arraigados en Cristo. Estas son distinciones importantes: nuestra misión es evangelizar y vivir nuestra fe en comunidades fuertes. Sin embargo, vemos un número cada vez menor de miembros dentro de nuestras iglesias, un cambio importante en las vocaciones a la vida religiosa en todas sus formas y recursos cada vez menores que afectan nuestra capacidad de misión y servicio en Cristo a medida que mantenemos estructuras físicas envejecidas que tienen importantes necesidades de mantenimiento que empeorara por falta de dinero. Al comenzar este Nuevo año, busquemos la oración y la guía del espíritu al enfrentar nuestro futuro con incertidumbre pero con esperanza. Continuaré siendo parte de este viaje con ustedes, y oro para que juntos podamos apoyar y alentar a la comunidad de fe aquí en Inmaculado Corazón de María a avanzar en esta in-certidumbre con fe, discipulado y confianza. ¡Que este Año Nuevo produzca esperanza para nuestra parroquia, promesa para nuestro futuro juntos y fe en el proceso que nos llamará a fortalecernos unos a otros en Cristo! ¡Feliz Año Nuevo!
