2.2.3 UPS
The UPS provides stable power for IT loads by means of storage batteries when the mainsfails.
The UPS consists of a power factor correction (PFC) rectifier, an inverter, a battery charger, aDC-DC converter, storage batteries, and a static switch. The UPS works in any of thefollowing three modes:
Mains mode:
The AC-DC step-up circuit boosts mains and converts it into stable DC power for theinverter and storage batteries by using PFC technology. Then the inverter converts theDC power into stable AC power for powering loads.
Battery mode:
When the mains is abnormal or disconnected, the DC-DC step-up transformer boosts the
DC power supplied by storage batteries. Then the inverter converts the DC power intostable AC power for powering loads.
Bypass mode:
When the UPS is overloaded, overheated, or faulty, and the bypass is normal, the powersupply automatically switches to the bypass.
Figure 2-4shows a UPS.

2.2.4 Storage Batteries
Storage batteries store electricity. When the mains and diesel generator (D.G.) fail, storage
batteries provide AC power to the load through the UPS after a conversion.
Battery capacities vary based on Customer demand for backup power time. In the minimodular data center, a battery string consists of sixteen 120 V valve-regulated lead acid
batteries and provides a capacity of 40 Ah, 65 Ah, or 100 Ah. To extend the battery lifespan, itis recommended that storage batteries work under a temperature ranging from 15C to 25C.
The small modular data center provides battery packs for electricity backup. Battery packssupply battery backup power. When the mains supply is normal, the UPS charges storagebatteries. When the mains fails, battery packs supply power to the UPS.
If the data center ventilation is poor, dedicated hydrogen exhaust devices must be provided to
exhaust hydrogen generated by storage batteries.

2.2.5 PDU2000
A rack power distribution unit (PDU2000) distributes power in the AC power cabinet of themini modular data center. It supports one 220 V, 230 V, or 240 V AC power supply, twenty 10
A (C13) and four 16 A (C19) outputs.

2.3 Cooling SystemConsidering the environmental adaptability of the server, the operating temperature of thesmall modular data center used in a small room ranges from 5C to 30C and its operatinghumidity ranges from 10% to 90% RH. The cabinet cools as the ambient temperature drops
and the maximum cooling capacity of a single cabinet is 3 kW. The cabinet top is designedwith heat dissipation holes or installed with fans. Porosity of its front and rear doors is 70%.
A maximum of four DC fans with adjustable speeds can be installed on the cabinet roof todissipate the internal heat, prevent heat accumulation, and lower the temperature at the cabinettop. Four fans run simultaneously. When the heat load at the cabinet top is light, the four fans
lower the rotational speed to reduce power consumption.

2.4.1 Introduction
The energy control cabin 500 (ECC500) collects data and manages environments of the smallmodular data center and the operating status of the UPS power distribution system as well as
fan control system. In the mini modular data center, the ECC500 monitors the temperatureand humidity of the front air intake vent, and detects the front and rear door status. It alsodetects whether smoke is generated inside the cabinet and water accumulates in the place
where the cabinet is installed.
The ECC500 collects UPS data over an RS485 port.
The ECC500 provides a fast Ethernet (FE) port and allows you to query the system
operating status and alarm information and set parameters on the ECC500 web userinterface (WebUI).
If more cabinets are added, the door status of the additional cabinets and smokeinside the small modular data center should be detected,
but the monitoring for cabinet temperature and humidity and water detection in thesmall modular data center is the same as the small modular data center with a singlecabinet.
The fan control system can be configured as required in the main cabinet. The ECC500connects to the fan control system over an RS485 port.

Alarm Determination and Management The ECC500 determines alarm generation and clearance in real time after monitoring
analog parameters, digital parameters, data, and alarms, and perform management asfollows:
If the ECC500 determines that a serious alarm is generated, it turns on the Alarmindicator and displays the alarm information on the LCD and WebUI.
If the ECC500 determines that an alarm is cleared, it turns off the Alarm indicator andremoves the alarm information from the LCD and WebUI.
The ECC500 saves a maximum of 800 historical alarms and allows you to query clearedalarms on the LCD.
Centralized Management for Intelligent Equipment Over IP networks and Web telecommunications, reported to the data room, such as UPS,
direct ventilation information, real-time status; and receive Web remote managementcontrol and configuration information, the appropriate action, such as dry contact ON /OFF, south to the control equipment.
The ECC500 provides ports for receiving signals from sensors or sending control signalsto meet requirements for data collection and control.
Over camera monitoring, provide 1-way video monitoring each system, IP networkcameras by PoE, and support to access public network via LAN or route.
The ECC500 provides dry contact for room smoke sensor, and reports through SNMP ofECC500, low level is normal, and high level is alarm.
The cabinet uses a current mode smoke sensor powered by the ECC500. The smokesensor reports fire alarms to the ECC500.
Data Collection and Processing The ECC500 reports data collected by the water sensor, smoke sensor, door status sensor,
video alarm and ambient temperature and humidity sensor, reports spare analogparameters, and reports alarms over dry contacts.
The ECC500 can back up its own data and that of the monitored equipment. For example, the ECC500 backs up the alarm information that is downloadable from the WebUI.
When communication fails, the ECC500 still works properly and stores alarms. After
communication recovers, the stored alarm information can be downloaded by using theWebUI.
2.4.3 Monitoring Management
The ECC500 is 1 U high and 19 inch wide. It collects information and manages the operatingstatus in the cabinet. The ECC500 is mainly configured with a main control board and basicinput/output (I/O) module. It connects to a WebUI over an FE port, which allows you to query
information.
Table 2-11lists port descriptions of the basic I/O module.

2.5 Fire Extinguishing SystemThe small modular data center provides smoke sensors in cabinets and room but it does notprovide a fire extinguishing system. Therefore, a fire alarm system and fire fighting system
that meet application scenario requirements should be installed. For small-sized data centers, smoke sensors and fire extinguishers can be installed.
Smoke sensors in a cabinet and the equipment room of the small modular data center shouldmeet the following requirements:
The smoke sensors are installed on the cabinet top and the equipment room.
The smoke sensor, when detecting fire, reports fire alarms to the ECC500.
The cabinet uses a current mode smoke sensor powered by the ECC500. The smokesensor reports fire alarms to the ECC500.
The room smoke sensor contact to dry contacts, and powered by the ECC500 DC12V,reports fire alarms by SNMP of ECC500, low level is normal, and high level is alarm.
2.6 System CablesCables of the small modular data center include power cables, ground cables, and signal
cables.
