IEEE STUDENT CONGRESS

Mission

IEEE’s core purpose is to foster technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity.

Objectives

To empower and motivate the Branch counselors who are the vital link between the changing student leadership of a branch.

Region 10

Page 15: IEEE an OUTLOOK

The IEEE student members are the leaders of tomorrow.

As student members are associated to a particular student branch, they are able to access the world’s most comprehensive source of electrical, electronic and computer engineering publications.

Student members also benefit by networking with the members and the industry leaders, gaining leadership experience and developing interpersonal skills by getting involved in the local and section activities.

In order to consummate the IEEE’s goals, it is a necessity for the sections to share the ideas and best practices among themselves thus improving the functioning of their respective student branches.

MOTIVATING THE BRANCH COUNSELOR

Page 17: IEEE an OUTLOOK

Sections with 10 or more student branches can apply for this project.

Two or three sections can jointly host the congress as well.

The proposal is to hold one/two day long meetings of the branch counselors of the new and sick branches once every year and the branch counselors of the active student branches will be invited to share their experience.

WHO CAN ORGANISE THE STUDENT CONGRESS

Page 18: IEEE an OUTLOOK

Congress Theme

Reasons for Application

Desired Objectives other than stated in this announcement

Proposed Venue & Dates (should be before October 31)

Proposed Budget for Branch counselors congress (the Branch counselor may be charged a very small amount to make sure participation, otherwise need not be charged any registration amount, The R10 support to the section level event would be limited to US$ 1000 and the council level event will be limited to US$ 2000 only. The rest of the budget projection if any has to be raised through sponsorship and support by local section/chapter/student branches).

The budget should include the travel allowance to Branch counselors, food and stay if any and other operational expenses.

PROPOSAL TO CONDUCT A CONGRESS

Page 19: IEEE an OUTLOOK

A manual for activities, dos & don’ts will be developed with the interaction between the branch counselors and student leaders in this meeting

Branch counselors of new and sick branches will be motivated to do well and develop/ revamp the branches to become more active in every way. They will be apprised of the 10 responsibilities as listed in motivating the branch counselor.

Branch counselors will take more interest in the activities of the branch and learn from others who are successful as branch counselors

IEEE alumni group in each student branch will be formulated and activated within one year, which will enhance membership retention and many other activities.

EXPECTED OUTCOME

Page 20: IEEE an OUTLOOK

IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) is the largest international professional organization dedicated to promoting women engineers and scientists.

The R 10 Affinity group aims to do just that by reaching out with technology to educate women and children and encourage them to aspire to be Engineers.

Mission

The mission of IEEE WIE is to inspire, engage, encourage, and empower IEEE women worldwide.

To facilitate the global recruitment and retention of women in technical disciplines.

IEEE WIE envisions a vibrant community of IEEE women and men collectively using their diverse talents to innovate for the benefit of humanity.

IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE)

Page 21: IEEE an OUTLOOK

When was WIE created?

1992 Ultrasonics held Women in IEEE receptions (Dr.JanBrown).

1993 Technical Activities Board (TAB ) endorsed concept of WIE.

1995 WIEC established by Janbrown, Loan and Helen wood.

1996 first traveling WIE booth.

1997 WIE becomes standing member of BOD.

2000-present explosive WIE membership growth.

Page 22: IEEE an OUTLOOK

Why does IEEE need WIE

Women are under represented in the IEEE engineering fields

There is a need to increase participation of women in IEEE

We would like to address ways to improve the climate for women in

IEEE and the workplace

Meet the needs of ever changing membership—work life balance is

an issue of importance to all members

Page 23: IEEE an OUTLOOK

Recognize women's outstanding achievements in electrical and electronics engineering through IEEE Awards nominations.

Organize receptions at major technical conferences to enhance networking and to promote membership in WIE.

Advocate women in leadership roles in IEEE governance and career advancement for women in the profession.

Provide assistance with the formation of new WIE Affinity Groups and support ongoing activities.

IEEE WIE STRIVES TO (1)

Page 24: IEEE an OUTLOOK
