JANUARY 2020

POSTER DESIGNING SESSION

IEEE SB of Government Engineering College Kozhikode had conducted a poster designing session

CANVA on 28th

January 2020 from 4.30pm to 5.30pm. The session was handled by Athul Raj V,

technical cordinator of our SB. 17 students attended the session which included 15 IEEE and 2 non

IEEE members and the session was conducted free of cost. The main aim was to ensure that all

students could design a poster on their own and covered various features to design a poster.

SCRATCH SESSION

IEEE SB GEC Kozhikode in association with National Service Scheme conducted a programming

session on “SCRATCH” at Bilathikulam LP School, West hill, Kozhikode, Kerala on 26th

January

2020. Athul Raj V, technical cordinator of IEEE SB GECK introduced the fun of scratch

programming among the students. The students were excited to know more about scratch. The

session was lively and there were queries from the part of students and all of them co-operated

well.It was a helpful session for the students and they demanded for more such classes.

FEBRUARY 2020

APTITUDE TEST

An aptitude test was conducted by IEEE SB GOVERNMENT ENGINEERING COLLEGE,

KOZHIKODE on February 14th 2020 from 1-1:30pm. The event was held in the IEEE room and

aimed to create a platform for the students to have familiarisation in the pattern of an aptitude test.

20 IEEE members took part in the event. AVIN AJI of first year (AE & I) bagged the first position.

The feedback for the event was enquired and the participants wanted to have the event on a regular

basis. And thus we planned to have the event at least twice a month. Overall the event was a blissful

one and the participants had the complete satisfaction regards to the event

CANCER QUIZ

IEEE SB of Government Engineering College Kozhikode had conducted an online cancer quiz on

4th February 2020, Cancer day. The program began at 1pm and lasted till 1.15 pm. 31 students

participated in the quiz out of which 23 were IEEE members and 8 were NON-IEEE members. First

place was awarded to Arya Vijay of 6th semester Electronics and Communication Engineering and

second place to Lakshmi.P of 6th semester electronics and communication engineering.

VENUS QUIZ

IEEE SB of Govt Engineering College Kozhikode conducted a Picture quiz on 26th February

2020.This was conducted as a Pre-event of Venus. The duration of the quiz was 30 minutes. With

15 participants gathered at the venue, Simulation lab AEI block, the event was commenced by

12.50pm.Entry was free of cost. Students had to identify pictures of 10 renowned women provided

a short description of their achievement. The winner was Akshaya Das P from 4th semester applied

electronics and instrumentation engineering.

SEMINAR COMPETITION

A seminar competition was held by the IEEE SB Government engineering College Kozhikode, on

27th February 2020 at the EDUSAT ROOM from 1:00pm. The event was conducted in association

with KSEB Engineers Association.The event was open to all (IEEE and NON -IEEE). The

participants participated as a group. And they were selected to the next round. The judgement was

done by a group of engineers from KSEB .The topic of the competition was Power system

resilience- Strategies in Kerala Perspective. This event was a great experience for the participants

and they had a discussion session where the participants were asked questions by the judges.

INDUSTRIAL TECH TALK

IEEE SB Government Engineering College Kozhikode had conducted a technical talk on the topic

LATEST TRENDS IN IT INDUSTRY AND PLACEMENT OPPORTUNITIES on 4th

February

2020. The session was handled by Mr. Anoop Kumar Chenayil, senior project manager at QBURST

Technologies.

Around 30 students attended the talk which began at 4.30pm and lasted till 5.30pm.Session was free

of cost and mainly focused on the latest trends in IT field and also gave certain tips to remember

while preparing for placements.Students found the talk very useful and it was a great success.

MARCH 2020

TECHSORTIUM- TECH QUIZ

IEEE SB Government Engineering College Kozhikode had conducted a Technical quiz on 6th

march 2020 as preliminary for TECHSORTIUM 2020. The program was organised in the EDUSAT

room which began at 1.30pm and lasted till 2.15 pm. 26 students participated in the quiz and all of

them were IEEE members. 2 students were selected as winners and nominated for higher levels.

SPECTRUM TALK

IEEE SB of Government Engineering College Kozhikode had conducted a spectrum talk on 9th

march 2020. The talk was handled by an Vineetha Varma, Secretary, IEEE SB GECK on the topic

“Restoring the human touch”. The session began at 1pm in the EDUSAT room and lasted for about

20 minutes.23 IEEE members participated in the talk. The talk was open to all including NON IEEE

members and it explained on how to restore the sensation of a lost limb using Haptic technology.

APRIL 2020

POSTER DESIGNING COMPETITION

IEEE SB of GEC Kozhikode had conducted a poster making competition as part of the online

activities during lockdown due to global pandemic COVID-19.The entry period was from 07-04-

2020 to 14-4-2020. The competition was conducted on the topic “Quarantine Days” and the

competition was open for all including non-IEEE members. Received 4 entries which were posted

on Instagram page of SB . The winner was selected on the basis of number of likes and overall

quality of the poster. The chosen winner was Aswin Krishna of 1st year Electronics and

Communication department. The winner was awarded cash prize of Rs.200

QUARANTINE QUIZ - PHASE1

IEEE SB of Government Engineering College Kozhikode had conducted an online quiz competition

on April 8th

2020. It was a 10 minute quiz, scheduled from 4 pm to 4 30 pm.

The game code was given prior to the competition .

Total number of participants were 90 including 12 IEEE members from various .There was no

participation fee .The winner of the quiz is Yadu Krishnan from GEC Kozhikode and will be

awarded with a Certificate. It was conducted in a way to ensure that students could do something

interesting as well as learn something out of it .This quarantine fun activity have boasted the

enthusiastic spirit among the participants.

INTRODUCTION TO JAVA WEBINAR SERIES IEEE SB GECK has organised a 16 day long 8 webinar sessions starting from 10/04/2020 till

26/04/2020. Event was handled by Abhilash K, software developer at QBURST who is also our

alumni.Event mainly covered basic java programming.Event was conducted free of cost exclusively

for IEEE members.The medium for online session was ZOOM. 16 students participated and

certificates were issued.

QUARANTINE QUIZ PHASE 2

IEEE SB GEC, Kozhikode has organised the second phase of “Quarantine Fun Online Quiz

Competition”, on 15 April, from 4-4.30pm.The quiz was conducted online mode , with the help of

“Quizziz" app. The quiz mainly dealt with technical aspects, aiming at improving the technical

knowledge among the students. There were 32 participants in total. Aravind Krishna of S4

Mechanical, secured the first position. Participants reviewed that the quiz was interesting and

helpful at improving the knowledge.

WORLD HEMOPHILIA DAY QUIZ

IEEE SB GEC KOZHIKODE conducted an awareness and fun quiz online quiz event on the 17th of

April 2020 observed as World Haemophilia Day.

The event was made a great success with active participation of students from GEC Kozhikode as

well as other colleges. More than 77 students participation was recorded . The winner was selected

by the system based on the most number of correct answers and the fast answering. Three winners

were selected . First place was secured by Yadukrishnan , S4 ECE , GEC Kozhikode , second place

was secured by Vrindha Mohanan of S2 ECE , GEC Kozhikode and the third position was secured

by Jishnu from Govt. College of Engineering Kannur. The event being purely and encouragement to

the students at a remorse days like this , was congratulated .

EXECOM TRAINING

IEEE SB of Government engineering college Kozhikode organised an online Executive Committee

(ExeCom) training session on 18th

April 2020 at 8pm. The session was handled by Mini Ulanat,

Chair-WIE affinity group IEEE Kerala section. The session lasted for one hour attended by all the

ExeCom members. It was a combined session for GEC Kozhikode and College of Engineering

Vadakara. The class mainly focused on informing all the members what their roles are and how to

run the SB successfully.

INTRODUCTION TO HUMANOID ROBOTICS

IEEE SB GEC Kozhikode has conducted a webinar on Introduction to humanoid robotics on 23-04-

2020. Webinar was handled by Solomon Staby, SR IEEE Malabar Hub.The session was hosted on

google meet with a participation count of 40 members. The session mainly dealt with basic topics

on humanoid robotics, introduced Sophia Robot to the audience.

LATEX WEBINAR

IEEE SB of Government Engineering College Kozhikode had conducted a webinar on the topic

‘THE LATEX PROJECT ‘on 27th

April 2020 at 8.00pm. 60 students attended the session which

was exclusively for IEEE members. The class was handled by Dr Hari CV , assistant professor of

AE&I Rajagiri SET. This one hour session mainly covered the basics of LATEX.

MAY 2020 QUARANTINE QUIZ PHASE 3 IEEE SB GECK Conducted the "QUARANTINE FUN QUIZ COMPETITION" on 9th May 2020

at 4.30 pm .It was a 30 minutes quiz with a total of 25 questions, the quiz gave emphasis on

technology with a little fun element. The phase 3 of the series was warmly greeted by the students

with 49 participants among which over 26 were IEEE members.The winners were selected based on

their accuracy in answering. The first place was bagged by Abin of S2 AE GECK ,second place by

Amsu Krishnan of S4 EC GECK and third by Nejiya Nesrin of S4 AE GECK.The opportunity

provided by this platform to make this quarantine time productive was appreciated .

LOGO QUIZ

IEEE SB GEC Kozhikode conducted “LOGO QUIZ” on 15th may 2020. The event was scheduled

for 8 P.M in the “Quizziz” platform. Participants were counted to be 103 which included 87 IEEE

members and 15 non-IEEE members. This online quiz was conducted to test knowledge of students

on various brands logos. Students were asked to identify various brands using logos and hints

provided. A total of 25 questions were there .

PPT MAKING COMPETITION

The IEEE SB of Government Engineering College Kozhikode had conducted a pose point

presentation making competition on behalf of the World Telecommunication Day observed on

17/05/2020. The rules and regulations of the competition were published on 14/05/2020 with

17/05/2020 being the deadline. Out of the 18 students who registered 10 of them were shortlisted

before the deadline. 2 were IEEE members. There was no participation fee. The best of two

presentations were selected. The winners were APARNA M.S and Vishnu Muraleedharan from

GECK. The winners as well as the participants will be awarded with certificates. It was conducted

to boost the ideas of students about their vision on the telecom industry. They could analyse how to

tackle the problems faced by the industry in the post-COVID-19 scenario. Moreover it was a

quarantine productive activity.

LOGO QUIZ A Logo Quiz was conducted online, under IEEE SB GECK chapter on 20/05/2020 to test

knowledge of students on various brands and its logos. Out of 120 students registered only 87

participated .There were no participation fees. Students were asked to identify various brands using

logos and hints provided within the given time limit. A total of 25 questions were there. The first

three positions were bagged by Roshith M (Gec- Wayanad), Thejus Krishna (Gec- Kannur) and

Amal Prabhakaran of(Gec- Kozhikode).Winners will be provided with certificates.

“Hey Google ,is that your doodle” Quiz

IEEE SB GEC Kozhikode conducted the ‘Hey Google, is that your Doodle ’quiz on 25th

May 2020

at 5pm. As anticipated, the event witnessed vehement participation from more than 30 students who

put their heart and soul into making this event a grand success. Retrospecting the quiz, it had a total

of 15 questions with each question having a timer set for 20 seconds. As far as the questions are

considered, we received mixed reactions from students with some quoting it as “hard”. It’s rightly

said that, winners are the ones who commit a mistake less than the other participants. Many facets

like accuracy, unattempted questions etc. differentiated the victors from other participants. Owing

to these factors, the first position was bagged by Anagha Sudheer of S2 CHE, the first runner-up

position was bagged by Amsu Krishnan of S4 ECE and the second runner-up position was secured

by Sreesanth T P of S4 AE&I.

SPOT CARTOON CONTEST IEEE SB GEC Kozhikode has conducted a spot cartoon contest on 25-05-2020. Event was hosted

on the topic “Maharashtra Train Incident: Freight train runs over migrants sleeping on tracks”. 15

students participated out of which 4 were IEEE members . After final judgment First, second and

third positions were bagged by Nanma James, Haifa C and Vishnu Hari respectively.

POWER ELECTRONICS SEMICONDUCTOR SWITCHING DEVICES

WEBINAR IEEE SB of Government engineering college Kozhikode had conducted a one-hour lecture on the

topic “POWER ELECTRONICS SEMICONDUCTOR SWITCHING DEVICES” on 23 may 2020

at 6:30pm. The session was handled by Devika Muraleedharan, joint secretary SPS SB MESCE.

The session was made free of cost and it provided a great opportunity for students to utilise the lock

down days. 50 students including IEEE as well as non-IEEE became a part of the wonderful

session. The session mainly focused on power electronics and their divisions, BJT, IGBT,

MOSFETs etc. It was of course beneficial for all semesters including the 1st years. The lecture did

really provide an opportunity for students to restore their knowledge and to expose more

about

power electronics. The students too gave wonderful feedbacks on the session.

WEB DEVELOPMENT SERIES IEEE SB GECK has organised a 7 day session on web development from 28-05-2020 to 4-07-2020.

Sessions were handled by Feny Roy,Webinar Team Coordinator, IEEE India Council SCT. Event

was conducted on google meet with participation count of 40 members.Session covered topics

including basics of HTML, CSS, Javascript and Web hosting. Participants also engaged themselves

in hosting their own portfolio websites and in developing a quiz interface with the topics learned so

far.

JUNE 2020

LET’S LEARN GITHUB IEEE SB Government engineering College Kozhikode had conducted a one hour lecture on the

topic “ Let’s Learn GitHub” on 12 June 2020 at 7.00 pm. The session was handled by Akarsh

Ashok, DSC lead, Web Master at IEEE R10 SAC, Chair of IEEE CS SBC NSSCE, Technical Co-

ordinator OF IEEE CS Kerala Chapter. The session was very useful for the upcoming programmers

and programming lovers and developers. 41 members including IEEE and non-IEEE members

became a part of this wonderful session. The session helps us to deal with GitHub, it’s vast areas,

how to deal with files etc. It was beneficial for all those, who are seeking a new possibility for their

programming life. It also helps students to explore more about GitHub and also restore their

knowledge. The students were very active during the session and also they gave wonderful

feedback on session.

DESIGN A LOGO

IEEE SB GEC Kozhikode called for a logo for SB on 22-06-2020. Event received

several logo as entries and Nadeem E of S4 Civil was awarded first prize and cash

prize of INR 300.

Voice –WIE : Dimensions to checkout. IEEE WIE SB Affinity Group of Government Engineering College , Calicut on 23-06-2020

organised an event - "VOICE" , Dimensions To Checkout , speaker Sona Thadevus , Secretary ,

IEEE SB MITS as a part of Women In Engineering Day Celebration on the 23rd of June 2020 at

7pm(IST) . WIE AG GECK received approval on June 16th

, hence the event was considered a pre-

inaugural event. The talk mainly focused on the past, present and future of women in engineering.

She also introduced WIE to the new campus.

JULY 2020

IEEE IAS SBC INAUGURATION Inauguration of IAS SB Chapter of Government Engineering College Kozhikode was done by Dr. George

Zissis, President IAS, on 1st July 2020 remotely. The programme was conducted using the Webex platform.

The programme started at 7 PM IST by an introduction speech about the IAS GECK chapter by Mr Athul

Raj V, Chair. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Bijuna Kunju, Chair IA/IE/PELS Jt.Chapter

Kerala. Dr. George Zissis, in his inaugural address, briefed about the IAS and its activities. He elaborated on

the benefits of possessing an IAS membership and urged all to join the IAS family.Prof Wei-Jen Lee,

President Elect IAS delivered the keynote address .He also highlighted on the topic “Bridging and Leading

the Emerging Technologies” . It was followed by felicitations by Ms. Sarada Jayakrishnan, Chair IEEE

Kerala section. She elaborated on the activities of IEEE Kerala section .Vote of thanks was delivered by Dr

Bindima T, Advisor IAS SBC GECK. The programme was coordinated by Ms. Anamika Pisharody, an

active member of the SB.Peter Magyar, IAS Director of CMD IAS also attended the ceremony . The

programme came to an end at 8.30 PM IST

NOTION EXCHANGE NOTION EXCHANGE, the idea pitching competition, was the first event conducted by IAS

chapter of IEEE SB GECK on July 6, 2020. The event was coordinated by Vishnu Muraleedharan

and Robin Rajeev Daniel and was exclusively for students of GECK. 38 students including 9 IEEE

members took part in the competition. The topic given to the participants was to express their ideas

regarding how to dispose the used sanitary kits safely and effectively. Rashmi R Shenoi of S2 ECE

was selected as the winner for her ideas which included the idea of designing eco friendly masks,

biodegradable plastic kits and incineration techniques.

GADGET BUZZ IAS IEEE SB GECK conducted a Gadget Buzz quiz on tech on July 8, 2020 at 5.00pm. This quiz

was conducted exclusively for GECK students, all IEEE and non-IEEE members. Total 30

participants were there. There were no participation fees. The topic for the quiz was 'Induction

Motor'. Total 20 questions were given.The time limit for the quiz was 30 minutes. The first 3

positions were bagged by Antony Prasad, Vishnu Muraleedharan, Krishna Rajeev

SCRIPTORS Celebrating the World Population Day , the population attribute to the present pandemic havoc

cannot be neglected. WIE Affinity Group GECK on 8/07/2020 hosted a technical paper writing

competition on behalf of World Population Day. Topic - Population Surveillance - Pandemic

Prevention or Data Mining Entries were restricted to be in pdf format and a maximum of 3 pages.

Participants submitted their entries via mail to the official mail of IEEE SB GECK. Last date of

submission was extended from 12th July to 18th July. Competition was open for both IEEE and

Non IEEE members.

INAUGURATION – WIE Affinity Group GEC Kozhikode Government Engineering College , Kozhikode with delight announced and conducted the official

inauguration of IEEE WIE Student Branch Affinity Group on the 21st of July , 7.00 PM (IST) ,

platform – Google Meet. We were joined by eminent dignitaries from across the world to fill our

occasion with lots of energy and inspiration. It was an honor to have Prof. Bozena Pasik Duncan ,

Former Chair , IEEE WIE 2018 panel as our Chief Guest and Ms. Emi YANO as our Guest of

Honor. The event commenced at 7.10 PM was started by giving a short introduction on the history

of our Student Branch by one of our Volunteer. Our beloved SB counselor, also the educational

activities chair, IEEE Malabar Subsection, Dr.Bindima T addressed the gathering with her welcome

speech. The inaugural address following the welcome address by our Chief Guest emphasized on

the importance of affinity groups like WIE in bringing women to the fore front. Ms. Emy YANO

addressed the session in keynote enlightening everyone regarding the activities and benefits of

being the member of WIE . Ms.Mini Ulanat , Chair , IEEE WIE Kerala Section felicitated the

occasion. Anamika Pisharody ,Chair , WIE Affinity Group , GEC Kozhikode delivered the vote of

thanks and presented a virtual memento as a token of happiness and appreciation to the special

invited guests.

• SPECTRUM PARLEY

• On 25/07/2020 IEEE SB GEC Kozhikode in association with its IAS SBC and WIE Affinity

Group presented the much awaited Spectrum Parley. This event refers to a spectrum talk

competition where you can showcase your effective communication skills. The spectrum talk was

evaluated by our beloved SB counsellor Dr. Bindima T and Prof Rashid Ummer of GECK. It was

an exclusive event for IEEE students of GECK. The entire SB was divided into four teams

namely CAELLA, VEGA, RIGEL, and SIRIUS which in turn competed against each other.

• SCAVENGER HUNT On 26/07/2020 IEEE SB GEC Kozhikode in association with its IAS SBC and WIE Affinity Group

presented the much awaited SCAVENGER HUNT. The event gave an opportunity to appraise the

programming knowledge and skills of its participants. The task was to examine and then

debug/complete the given codes. It was an exclusive event for IEEE students of GECK. The entire

SB was divided into four teams namely CAPELLA, VEGA, RIGEL, and SIRIUS which in turn

competed against each other

• CROSS-SWORDS On 27/07/2020 IEEE SB GEC Kozhikode in association with its IAS SBC and WIE Affinity Group

presented the much awaited CROSS SWORDS. This event was solving a cross word puzzle. It was

an individual task to fill up the ups and downs of the puzzle reading the clues provided. It was an

exclusive event for IEEE students of GECK. The entire SB was divided into four teams namely

CAELLA, VEGA,RIGEL ,SIRIUS which in turn competed against each other

• IDEA HUNT

On 28/07/2020 IEEE SB GEC Kozhikode in association with its IAS SBC and WIE Affinity Group

presented the much awaited IDEA HUNT. Idea Hunt was an ideation competition, where the

problem statement given had to be resolved within 24 hours of announcement of the same. 24

hours to submit the abstract of the idea or product came up with as the solution which was followed

by 5 minutes pitching round to convey idea/product convincingly to the spectators and judges from

4pm IST on the platform Google Meet. Our beloved student branch counsellor Dr. Bindima T and

Harikrishnan sir evaluated the groups through idea validation, presentation and viva. It was an

exclusive event for IEEE students of GECK. The entire SB was divided into four teams namely

CAELLA, VEGA, RIGEL, and SIRIUS which in turn competed against each other

BRAIN TRIVIA

On 29/07/2020 IEEE SB GEC Kozhikode in association with its IAS SBC and WIE Affinity Group

presented the much awaited CROSS SWORDS. This event was a quiz with very intriguing

questions to crack! There was a total of 14 questions which were to be solved within 25 minutes. It

was an exclusive event for IEEE students of GECK. The entire SB was divided into four teams

namely CAELLA, VEGA, RIGEL, and SIRIUS which in turn competed against each other

Career options and opportunities for Electronics Engineering graduatesIEEE SB

GECK in association with its IAS SBC and WIE Affinity group conducted a webinar session :

"Carrier options and opportunities for electronics engineering graduates" on 31/07/2020 handled by

Mr. Renjit , Mtech Biomedical Engineering, B.E E&TC, having 18 years of experience in HW/

Product design . It was a one hour session from 6PM IST , conducted on the platform – Google

Meet.

AUGUST 2020

WORDPRESS IEEE SB Geck in association with WIE AG conducted a webinar on the topic “Wordpress",on Aug

9th 2020.Webinar was taken by webmaster RS Nithin ,IEEE YP R 10.It was a very nice session

according to the feedback we received.Session ended nearby 8 p.m.

INNOVATION AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT , A ROADMAP FOR

EXCELLENCE IN INDUSTRY AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP Webinar:IEEE

IAS SBC GECK had conducted a webinar on the topic INNOVATION AND CONTINUOUS

IMPROVEMENT , A ROADMAP FOR EXCELLENCE IN INDUSTRY AND

ENTREPRENEURSHIP which was handled by Lucia Pia Toress, the robotean program manager

from IEEE WIE Argentina. The program was held on 20 August 2020 at 6.30 p m via Google meet

and lasted till 7.45 pm. The webinar was to discuss the effective ways and tools for being a

successful entrepreneur.Topics like globalization and industrial revolution too were discussed in the

session. She also talked about the changes and chances that might occur in the industrial world after

COVID 19 pandemic and some innovative measures that can be taken care of during this

situation.There were 55 registrants among which 52 took part in the event. The event was organised

by Aravind VS and was coordinated by Robin Rajeev Daniel and Vishnu Muraleedharan.

GOOGLER QUIZ IEEE SB GECK in association with WIE affinity group and IAS SBC had conducted an online quiz

competition titled 'GOOGLER' on 26 August 2020 at 5.00PM.The event was coordinated by

members of team RIGEL and was an open event. 117 students from various colleges registered for

the quiz and 59 students took part in the competition. The quiz was one of a special kind that had 15

questions arranged in a form which gives more priority to pictures and lasted for 30 minutes.The

quiz mainly focused on the googling ability as well as the ability of the participant to reach the

solution by connecting different images. Reuben Thomas Peter from College of engineering

Trivandrum secured the first position followed by Sandra P P and Nayza Thasneem from LBS

institute of technology, Trivandrum securing second and third positions respectively. Overall, the

Googler was really a great success and thereby became another event that highlighted the name of

IEEE SB GECK in front of other colleges. WOMEN EQUALITY DAY QUIZ COMPETITION WIE Affinity group of IEEE SB GECK organised a Women equality day quiz competition on 27

th

Aug 2020 at 7pm. A total of 76 students participated in the quiz from various colleges across the

state. This 15 minute quiz was open for all covering 10 question based on important female

personalities across the world. A list of students who have secured high scores has been finalised to

participate in the next level of the quiz. Students came across a lot of female personalities who

broke the norms and perspectives regarding women in the world.
