Senior Leadership Team Editorial

Welcome to our July edition of our IES gazette - this is the last-but-one gazette this academic year, and you will most likely receive this edition with August's, which is essentially a round-up of the whole year 2016-2017 at IES, with not-seen-before photographs and learning activities that did not make the original cut. We do hope you enjoy both this edition and Augusts - and maybe even be reading these with your feet up, on a recliner, somewhere warm, with a lemon and lime in one hand... because it is important that we all take time this summer to disconnect (from wifi too?!?) and have the opportunity to recharge our batteries, relax, and take stock, and make quality family time a priority.

This year has been so successful here at IES - you can practically feel the buzz of the achievements of the final weeks jump off the pages as you read through! We have celebrated so many achievements this month at IES. Our Sports' Day was one of our best ever; the weather held, and all pupils involved participated fully, all of them gaining medals, certificates and awards for excellent sportsmanship, positive competition, and, in many cases, winning - as well as accepting the wins of others with good grace and spirits. Many parents and carers and family members were also there to cheer on and support. And, afterwards, we came back to IES HQ to share a delicious and filling buffet lunch (thanks Shaun!) and a leaving assembly - where we had more laughter, jokes, awards, medals and success stories than ever before, because our numbers have grown and our achievements have multiplied. We are a super motivated bunch of staff and pupils at IES and we love to celebrate the good stuff :-) And... celebrate we did the evening before at the Millers hotel in Sibson (yes - the village where IES started back in 2012). On Thursday 13th July 2017, all four sets of parents and carers for our current Year 11's , as well as our leavers, and IES key-worker staff, joined together for a celebratory meal, speeches, laughter, socialising, tears (good ones!), well- wishing, and togetherness. It was truly wonderful, and an annual tradition that we wish to continue due to it being such a fantastically proud moment for all of us involved. To support our young people from the start of their journey with us, to the point where they are ready to go out into the world filled with increased confidence, curiosity and courage is just... well - what it's all about. And they will. In fact we are so committed to making sure that next steps are part of the programme for all at IES that we will be sharing with you soon the IES Alumni - we have traced all of our pupils and are so proud to report back (and will in more detail in the Autumn term gazettes) so many of them are accessing quality educational courses at local colleges, and / or are in work. Working towards their own dreams. Wonderful. With this said, please take time to celebrate the achievements of your child this summer with your child (the reports are an excellent starting point) and enjoy some quality time with them. All of our IES children are so capable of being the most loving, caring and happy souls (even when they have their moments as we know!) We are looking forward to their summer stories, their humour and their warmth when we return. Take care, be safe, and see you August 23rd x Leanne Beardmore Headteacher M(Ed) PGCE BA(Hons) TEFL

After sports day we headed back to school with parents, carers and staff to enjoy a nice buffet lunch. After this we had our awards ceremony where every student received a certificate and medal in recognition of their hard work and dedication to school. Here are just a few photos of the students receiving their certificates.

Ahmed and Charlotte enjoyed their incentive trip to The Sea life Centre. They enjoyed hanging out with the penguins and learning about all of the different species of fish.

Lloyd enjoyed his trip to Drayton Manor Theme Park.

This year, as an incentive reward, Jack, Kyle and Frankie visited Daytona Racetrack in Tamworth to take on the large 125cc karts, in a rival race with our very own Michael Beardmore. All three had a great time, putting in a brilliant effort on the track. There were some close calls, minor bumps and the odd spin here and there, but all completed the course and were thrilled by the experience. Well done to our future racers!

Tom enjoyed his golf.

Kamaladin decided for his incentive to invest his time this summer through his love of angling. Kamal was able to get a complete setup with his end of term reward, something he is certainly looking forward to using over the coming weeks.

Destiny had a great time ice-skating.

Scafell in the Lake District. I completed this in 4 hrs in the dark.

On way down from Ben Nevis. Soaking wet but smiling for a great cause.

Total 5hrs

Shaun IES Director took on an amazing challenge for our SENDIES charity. Shaun took part in the 3 Peaks Challenge on 24th June and completed it in 24 hours. A massive well done to Shaun.

Here is Joe (above) and Charlotte(right) at the Milk farm learning about how milk is produced and collecting a carton of fresh milk. Joe was so happy and started his famous dabbing too :)

Destiny enjoyed a visit to Hoar Park today to study animals in a domesticated environment and see how they behave, from animals found on a working farm to pets you might choose to have in your house. Destiny was a pleasure to be around all day, interacting with members of the public and asking staff lots of questions about the animals and how to care for them.

Tom visited the RAF Museum as part of a 'Team Building' lesson off site, he really enjoyed looking at all the planes and was able to tell us lots of key facts about the War.

Abbie has been practicing her cricket skills in P.E.

Ahmed has been team building and making a den in the park with other students.

Rhlyee has had the opportunity to visit the allotment after asking for the experience of managing and growing veg.

Charlotte had asked to do golf for her P.E lessons. Can you see how far you hit the ball Charlotte?
