"Leaders Connecting Locally"
The Leaders Breakfast program serves
to bridge the gap between the design indus-
try and the business leaders in the region.
Over 250 design leaders and business inno-
vators had the opportunity to experience
the keynote speaker Neva Hall, Executive
Vice President, Neiman Marcus Stores and
the honoring of two leaders within the DFW
business community who most embody
leadership characteristics through their con-
tributions to the industry.
Judy Pesek, Managing Director for
Gensler’s Dallas office, and Veletta Forsythe
Lill, Executive Director of the Dallas Arts
District at DOWNTOWN DALLAS, were the
recipients of the highly respected IIDA
Leader's Awards for 2011.
The Texas Oklahoma Chapter of the International Inte-
rior Design Association hosted the return of the highly cov-
eted Leaders Breakfast Series to Dallas on October 12th,
2011 at The Dallas Museum of Art.

District, Neva Hall of Nieman Marcus, Judy Pesek
of Gensler, John Newland of Herman Miller,
Cheryl Durst Executive Vice President and CEO of
IIDA.
Each honoree was pre-
sented with a molded ply-
wood splint (picture to
right), in its original pack-
aging, designed and cre-
ated by Charles and Ray
Eames for injured U.S. sol-
diers during WWII. The
splint has become an
iconic symbol of the legacy
of Charles and Ray Eames,
as well as a testament to
their spirit of leadership
within the design profes-
sion.

History of the Leaders Breakfast
The IIDA Leaders Breakfast series began as a single event, launched in New York, in 1989 by Jeannie Bochette of
Steelcase. The goal was to introduce IIDA to the business world as a leading industry association and to inform IIDA
Members about major economic issues affecting them and their clients, as presented by prominent corporate execu-
tives, government officials and academic experts. The event established a forum where IIDA Members and their cli-
ents could see, hear and network with peers. In 2001, the IIDA Leaders Breakfast expanded into what is now an inter-
national program.
In 2012, Dallas will once again host the Texas/Oklahoma IIDA Leaders Breakfast event. Please stayed tuned for
more details!
Sustainability in action in Dallas Fort Worth!
During September and October 2011, the
DFW architectural, interior and graphic design
community participated in a nationwide award
winning upcycling program called ZeroLandfill™
that supports the supply needs of local artists
and arts educators while reducing pressure on
local landfill capacity.
This amazing group of over 50 local volunteers identified and diverted
from local landfills over record 34,000 lbs. of expired specification samples
that were repurposed to such local organizations including: Dallas ISD, Gar-
land ISD, Plano ISD, Girl Scouts, and local artist teaching groups who con-
tinually struggle to provide their students and members inexpensive mate-
rials to be creative.

Panel Discussion and Project Tour – VMG Health
On October, 15th, 2011, over 40 IIDA DFW members and guests experi-
enced a project tour of the recently completed interior spaces of VMG
Health on the 15th floor of Chateau Plaza in Dallas. The space was designed
by Interprise Design, a corporate interior design and space planning firm pro-
viding services to the Commercial Real Estate Industry since 1981. And the
event was graciously hosted by Teknion and Workplace Solutions.
Prior to the project tour, attendees listened to a panel discussion which
included Jon O’Sullivan (Senior Partner at VMG Health), Kenneth Reese
(Senior Managing Director at CASE Commercial Real Estate Partners), Paul
White Osborn (Creative Director at Interprise). Each panel member provided
insight on the special challenges to space planning in a triangular-shaped
building, as well as the systems furniture that was involved to maximize the
efficiency of an unusually-shaped space.

LAVISH – Action + Design Challenge
IIDA DFW hosted the 1st Annual LAVISH Auction + Interior Design Chal-
lenge on November 18th, 2011 at a venue donated by Pegasus Ablon in
the Dallas Design District. We would like to extend a special thank you to
those that not only participated in the event in making it such a success,
but also want to thank the over 300+ attendees who made donations to-
taling over $20,000.
This event kicked off the holiday spirit by highlighting the DFW design tal-
ents, as well as educating people about “Dwell with Dignity”, a locally based non-
profit, that creates and installs soothing, inspiring homes for families struggling
with homelessness and poverty.
