SCHOOL NEWS

BEEutiful Bee Hives

Our bees have arrived and are getting very busy in their hives making honey. Our local apiarist Frank Papworth has kindly donated the bees for our new flow frame hives. The students are very excited to learn about our new bees and how these clever insects make honey.

Merv Bartholomew | Farm Assistant

Creature Creations

Kinder enjoyed making homes for their ‘Living Things’ unit of work. The students were very creative and had a lot of fun.

Helen Vagg | RFF Teacher

Sport and PE Reminder

Just a reminder to all parents to ensure students bring a

hat with their name printed clearly on them so we can

return them if lost. Also as it is warming up quickly that

students wear sunblock for sport and PE as well as in the

playground

Giz A Break

We are offering free adventures to the Victorian High Country

for 14-17 year olds from drought affected communities. Based

on the UNICEF Drought Report’s recommendation, the

adventures are designed to not only give kids a break, but also

boost their resilience. The first adventure is scheduled for 22-25

November, with three further dates to be locked in.

If your are interested in this opportunity collect an information

pack from the front office.

Stage 2 & 3 Camp to Sovereign Hill and Bendigo At Sovereign Hill, our Year 3-6 students had a lot of fun exploring life in the 1850’s. We spent a lot of time gold panning were some students were more successful than others. We had a lesson in a 1850s style classroom where our students learnt manners of the period. We investigated some games that children used to play and even had a game of bowling.

We went through an underground gold mine and learnt about the risks people took to find gold. We saw how to make boiled sweets, and of course tasted them! At Bendigo we went for a tram ride to the Joss House Temple. We learnt little about Chinese culture and the how the Chinese people were treated during the Gold Rush period. We also went 60m underground and had a tour of the Central Deborah Gold Mine. Here we learnt about the risks of gold mining up to the 1950s and how drilling technology has change over the years.

The students had fantastic learning experience and lots of fun

TELL THEM FROM ME SURVEY

This term, our school, like many other public schools in the state, will participate in a Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices.

You may remember that our students also participated in a Tell Them From Me student survey in Term 1 this year. Asking students to complete the survey twice in one year allows us to identify trends in student responses as well as track engagement and motivation across the school year.

The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. More than 6,300 schools in Australia and around the world have used Tell Them From Me to survey 5.4 million students. Capturing the voices of our students will help improve how we do things at our school.

More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au

I want to assure you that the survey is confidential. The survey is conducted online and will typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during school hours between 26 August and 25 October. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary.

A consent form and FAQs for parents/carers about the survey is being sent home with students. If you do not want your child or children to participate, please return the form to school by 18/10/19. Copies of the form and FAQs are available from: http://

surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents.

The consent form and FAQs are available in 23 languages.

We will also be conducting a parent survey. Information and a web link will be provided to all parents this week. If you have any questions please contact Anna Murphy 02 69672277.
