FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK Hello Parents! The past week was an eventful one from Book Fairs, to rosary making...to monsters! More on the monsters later ;) I must begin by thanking Mrs. Asch, Mrs. Ottenwess, and the entire Book Fair team for a hugely successful Book Fair! Because of your love for books and generosity, we are able to purchase over $5k worth of books for our library. Thank you! I hope your home libraries also improved this week the way ours will! Our 8th graders also had an eventful week. It started with building monsters and ended with making rosaries--how metaphorical for our lives! The monsters were created with the inspiration by Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Mrs. Wargo has been reading excerpts from this classic novel with our students and then tasked them with creating their own monster, as well as the back story of their creation. Whether it was too much Red Bull or an experiment gone wrong, our science lab was filled with monsters created by our very own Frankensteins. I'm sure this project will help our students remember this classic for a long time! I hope our students also look back fondly on their special morning with Mrs. Lim, where they made their own rosary beads! Mrs. Lim is a parishioner who sent her children to SHS years ago. Every year, she comes back to our school to teach our students how to make rosaries. This year, the colors were perfectly picked--blue and gold! May they pray for each other and for our school each time they use their homemade rosary! This week, we are blessed to welcome two sergeants from the Air Force Expeditionary Center as well as the Honor Guard from the base to help our students celebrate Veteran's Day, which is observed on teh 12th this year. Our students look forward to this each year and we are very grateful to Mrs. Stephanie Aaron for facilitating this special day! Mrs. Dallos is also coordinating a collection for our soldiers. Do you have more Halloween candy than you know what to do with? Our military would love that candy! There is a box for your donations in the main stairwell of the school. Donations can be made all week! Please keep our 2nd graders in your prayers this week. They will be preparing for their 1st Reconciliation at a retreat this Saturday, 11/17 from 9-11:30am. God bless our sweet 2nd grade class! Sincerely, M s. Besheer CALLING ALL TO SERVE! IMPORTANT DATES BOOK FAIR THIS WEEK! SHS is calling all students in grade 4 and older to prayerfully consider serving the Mass as an altar server! There is a meeting and training next week, Monday, November 19th from 6:45-7:45pm in the Church. Please consider encouraging your child to sign up. Our Holy Father speaks of this special ministry in the Church, being close to the altar, keeps you close to Jesus: "The closer you are to the altar," he told them, "the more you will remember to speak with Jesus in daily prayer; the more you will be nourished by the word and the body of the Lord, the better able you will be to go out to others, bringing them the gift that you have received, giving in turn with enthusiasm the joy you have received" What a beautiful opportunity for our children.
