IMA –NABH INITIATIVE

NABH accreditation was always thought to be only

for BIG hospitals,

Very DIFFICULT,

very EXPENSIVE.

IMA HBI sat & discussed with NABH for nearly six

months.

Fomulated new EASIER guidelines to achieve

ENTRY level accreditation.

This can be easily achieved by SMALL & MEDIUM

level hospitals.

Page 22: IMA HBI NABH INITIATIVE

Objectives • To assist hospitals to achieve international

standards in patient care and safety.

• To assist hospitals to countenance CEA .

• To increase the viability of small and medium hospitals by value addition.

• To provide hospitals an affordable access to accreditation.

WHY SHOULD MEDICAL ESTABLISHMENTS BE ACCREDITED

WITH NABH ?

Page 24: IMA HBI NABH INITIATIVE

QUALITY IMPROVEMENT IRDA REGULATION EMPANELMENT IN INSURANCE SCHEMES CLINICAL ESTABLISHMENT ACT PROTECTION IN MEDICOLEGAL CASES BETTER BUISNESS

WHY NABH ACCREDITION

Page 25: IMA HBI NABH INITIATIVE

Propagate that your establishment offer facilities that are of better quality.

Propagate that your premises provide high standards of care with high level of patient safety.

Get empanelment with CGHS, ECHS,PSUs, and State Government. Provide better quality of services and that in turn, will generate more

business. Generate faith in Public regarding transparency in billing with no hidden

costs. Strengthen the faith that the hospital follows a policy a rational use of

drugs including antibiotics, investigations and treatment. Strengthen the public faith that their rights will be respected and

protected. You will be better prepared to face Clinical Establishment Act.

You may get exemption from Inspection under CEA. Apply for empanelment with UN institutions.

WHY NABH ACCREDITION

Page 26: IMA HBI NABH INITIATIVE

Apply for government projects and grants. Apply for international grants.

Collaborate with other recognized health care establishments. Generate faith in Public that your hospital does not sell fake/spurious drugs.

Generate faith in Public regarding the accuracy of laboratory tests. Provide an infection fee, clean, hygienic, environment (with minimal hospital acquired

infections) to the patients. Get your establishment recognised for DNB, Internship & fellowship programs.

Strengthen the faith that the hospital complies with standard procedures of care with minimum errors.

Inculcate faith in hospital doctors that their rights are also being respected. Generate confidence in Public that the hospital will provide safe and secure environment

for them.

WHY NABH ACCREDITION

Page 27: IMA HBI NABH INITIATIVE

As far as possible, Recruit qualified staff, residents and nurses. Reduce liability insurance costs due to accreditation.

Develop faith in Public that the technicians in the establishment are well-trained and qualified. Assure the Public that the hospital maintains and strictly follows its infection control policy.

Hence, they will be less apprehensive of acquiring infections like Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV and TB when they come to your hospital.

Assure the Public that any news story from the establishment, on TV or print, will be scientific. Generate confidence among the Public that their right to confidentiality will be respected and

their medical records would be preserved. Gain a marketing advantage in terms of costs of treatment or services provided compared to

those who are not accredited as Accreditation means better quality of services. Enhance the skills and knowledge of your staff further as accreditation will lead to a process of

continuous learning and improvement. Empanel your establishment with insurance agencies and other third parties as Accreditation

facilitates such processes. Substantially reduce the chances of people filing cases related to medical negligence against your establishment as NABH accreditation means that the medical establishment adheres to

standard treatment guidelines. As a result, You will have a stronger defence against malpractice litigations.

IMA HBI NABH INITIATIVE

This initiative is a part of the leadership role that IMA played in championing the cause for a more liberal accreditation programme that suits the realities of the tens of thousands of small and medium medical professionals owned hospitals which are the true back bone of the health care delivery across our country. The IMA has an exclusive agreement with NABH to promote this programme across the country and a successful pilot has been working in South India over last 2 years with considerable participation. The technical assistance programme designed and offered by IMA HBI is implemented Nationally and has been pilot tested and modified to the needs of small and mid-sized hospitals. This works on the principle of collaboration between the participants hospital under the IMA umbrella and offers trustworthy and sound technical assistance validated and constantly monitored by the IMA team.

IMA HBI NABH INITIATIVE

The key reason for IMA to develop this cluster based technical support programme enabling the hospitals to achieve the entry level NABH accreditation was the prevalent scenario where several private agencies are offering so called consultancy support at inflated prices and without sufficient technical knowhow. There have been several instances over the last few years of our hospitals being swindled by such fly by night operators and agencies. Any short comings in the support programme shall be immediately addressed through a monitoring committee of IMA and corrective actions ensured on receiving any grievances from our participant hospitals. IMA-HBI-NABH initiative is transparent on the cost sharing to be borne by each category of hospitals ( classified according to bed strength) and the services that will be provided by the technical assistance team.
