FRIDAY 1 JULY

everyone follows different paradigms in life with or without consciously

knowing it. the one that brought these 4 young Romanians together is rock

music. It all started in 2004 and since then they toured all around their na-

tive country as well as abroad in hungary, Bosnia, germany and Spain. their

skills, talent and sheer passion on stage has brought them many followers,

good reviews and awards. one such award was their success at Imagine

Romania 2010.

lunar Rays are just back from rocking Imagine Sweden after their winning

performance at the Imagine Regional Flemish Finals. they say they are not

really searching for a new sound, but trying to be honest and pure. their

performances take the listener through a range of moods from easy listening

songs to more danceable compositions. Watch out for these guys!

abuzska was formed around 2008 and after a few band member changes they

managed to find the perfect mix. always in party mode, their style is a blend

of ska, rock and reggae mixed in with a little folk and funk and lot of punk at-

titude! their aim is to spread positive fibes through their music with a strong

social message.

Sir Francis has their roots in downtown hasselt and have been diagnosed

with a serious case of the blues. Not to worry though, they spice it up with a

a good dosage of rock, garage and jazz, the result is explosive. although the

Imagine preselections was one of their first concerts together they managed

to overwhelm the jury with a strong frontman by a solid rhythms section and

an amazing guitarist.

Soondage have been rockin under different formations since 2008. In a

relatively short time the group has gained local recognition by jamming at

renowned events throughout Belgium. Besides preparing to compete for the

Imagine title, they are currently recording an ep that is set for release this

summer.

Ruth appeared on stage at the Imagine vlaams-Brabant preselections

with just a guitar and a microphone and instantly mesmerized the

crowd with her soulful voice and charisma. She is filled with expression

and heart, engaging her audience in an emotional experience where

music and lyric are beautifully intertwined as one.

double It up is a modern retro rock´n´roll group with an original

repertoire and a great attitude. they hail from gotland, Sweden, an

island situated in the Baltic Sea and are here to boogie your socks

off!

ziggy’s musical world revolves around the songs composed by vocalist/gui-

tarist pablo. tommaso (drummer) met him while playing with playground,

a group who won the public prize at music live/Imagine 2009. When elia

(Bass) and andrea (lead guitar) joined them in 2010 the band took the

name ziggy and embarked on a musical trip that encompasses britpop,

rock and blues.

estrange was formed in march 2010 and since then they have already had a bunch of concerts

throughout Belgium. their original music and sheer drive to perform has gotten them places on

some of the countrie’s best stages this year, including the Imagine Belgium National Final.

It’s hard to put Blackbird in a box. you can pick up in their music influ-

ences from artists as diverse as Radiohead, miles davis and dJ Shadow.

did we mention that this is a rock band without a bassist? Come check

out how these unusual suspects are breakin’ all the rules..

téo Crommen, lorcan Fahy and lucas deru all come from families of

musicians. they first met during a musique acoustique training camp in

virton, deep down in the Belgian south. later they got together again in

a bedroom studio in ovifat and the folk trio green moon was born!

Swaggalicious (SlB) is a ‘mainstream rap-crew’ formed by two young mCs

based in gent: aswinundefined and driesog. despite their age they already

know how to turn a venue upside down. during the Imagine preselections

and Flemish finals they have proven themselves as huge crowd-pleasers,

let’s see what they can pull off for the National Final. hands in the air for

Isabelle and Camille met during their secondary studies through their

common passion for music and writing, it didn’t take them long to form

madame’s tout le monde. the recipe is simple but effective: two voices and

one guitar telling stories through their music. after a few gigs they gained

momentum and soon participated in Imagine 2010 where they won a tour

to Sweden.

X-plod was established in 2006 by the Comaroni brothers andrei (vocals) & Cristian

(guitar). they were later joined by another set of brothers: Florian and Iulian,

playing bass and drums. at the time they had composed a few demo songs, which

they played live during a series of club concerts in Bucharest and other cities.

In 2007, Bubu Cernea and mihai Cerbu replaced the drummer and bassist. they

have won received several local distinctions and have recorded an album due to

be released soon.

What do you get when you combine the melancholies of Bon Iver with the

sounds of andrew Bird and the vocals of the Fleet Foxes? you guessed it…

gepetto & the Whales! this folky quartet from malle won the Imagine 2010

this eclectic trio came together to perform in Imagine Norway/ukm where

they worked their way to the top. they are experienced musicians who have

been playing together in several different projects. Jan Ivar ekroll has played

the piano and trumpet for over 9 years, Brynjar has played the electric bass

since the age of 12, recently having started the upright bass as well and it

is rumoured that andreas Juliebø was born with drum sticks in his hands!

these grooving jazzers are sure to add a unique flavour to the competition..

Noordung are 5 dudes from the towns of Idrija and Rovte in Slovenia. Formed in

2009 the group has written 11 of their own tracks to date, covering a wide mu-

sical territory between nu-metal, alternative and modern rock. they have won

some of the biggest national competitions for young musicians in Slovenia,

one of them being Imagine Slovenia/NajstFest in 2010.

they play something they describe as hyperactive-indie-pop-punk. melting

time were winners at the Imagine Belgium Final last year and went on to

perform at Imagine Festival 2010 in Norway. they have just released an ep

championing their original style influenced by the arctic monkeys, test Icicles,

Foals and the hives.

Born in montpellier in southern France, lea addou now lives in agde. With a musician for a father,

she was given her first instrument (a violin) at the age of 5. at 8 she de-

cided to learn to play the piano and began singing a few years later. She’s

currently in high School, juggling her studies and passion for music. She

lists her major influences from Janis Joplin to mgmt, david Bowie to Chily

epepe was formed in 2008 and before participating in Imagine had been

gigging regularly in their hometowns of koprivnica and zagreb. they

impressed the Imagine Croatia jury with their own mixture of punk and

rock, which draws its influence from the Ramones, the Stooges, the

police and even hanson. given their sheer enthusiasm and energy on

stage it was no surprise when they won their national Imagine Final

and are now in Brussels to represent Croatia at Imagine Festival 2011.

Six guys armed with six instruments, opmoc bring with them a loads of

energy and good vibes wherever they go! they call their music «Skunk» , a

unique genre found somewhere between ska and funk. opmoc were Imagine

Belgium winners in 2009 and have recently toured europe on the ‘opmoc

Bus’, cruising from Italy to Spain. this year they haven taken the Belgian

festival scene by storm and promise to bring some musical madness to
