It is with great pleasure that I extend my best wishes to all those who through their commitment and passion have helped bring
about this year’s Imagine Arts Festival. With over 80 events planned for this exciting time in Waterford I have no doubt that everyone attending will thoroughly enjoy this year’s festival.
Now in its sixth year it is true to say that Imagine is a unique celebration of the arts in Waterford. The very full, varied and ambitious programme of events planned for this year’s festival truly has something for everyone. I am delighted to see that so many art forms -theatre, literature, dance, film, visual art and music are included in the programme. Among the many highlights are screenings of the critically acclaimed films Gainsbourg and The Illusionist; performances by The Phoenix Orchestra and the baritone singer Jack L; a production of Sean O’Casey’s masterpiece “The Plough and the Stars” and also an audience with the world renowned Irish author Joseph O’Connor.
Undoubtedly the Imagine festival will bring significant benefits to the local economy. Events such as this will drive the promotion of Ireland to both domestic and overseas visitors and will contribute significant economic benefits. Congratulations to all involved.
Ádh mór agus tá súil agam go mbeidh féile na bliana seo an ceann is fearr fós.

The voices of The Bothy Band, Coolfin, Altan and Clannad, four truly iconic Celtic women, have come together in this remarkable collaboration. On the stage the Maggies bubble with a mixture of instinctive tone, harmony and a generous helping of laughs. Each brings their choice of songs but moulds them into the group with a unique soundscape of voice, piano, fiddle and harp.
“…the effervescence of the personalities on stage, and the sense of respect and sisterhood displayed had won me over…the intensity of delivery is uniformly stunning.” (Aengus Ó Maoláin, The Journal of Music)

Jack Lukeman - aka Jack L - is perhaps the most singular talent to have emerged from Ireland in the past decade

Along with a stripped down band, Jack will play for a select group of fans who book early for this gig. This will be an intimate evening where fans will be treated to the best of his back catologue courtesy of his last album The Story So Far –The Essential Collection, which has just gone double platinum! This year Imagine is delighted to welcome Noel Hill, who will be accompanied by Brian McGrath (Piano, Banjo) & Aisling Hill (Fiddle, Concertina), Noel Hill is one of those standard-setting voices in Irish music today. Few musicians in any field or in any generation achieve a position where both audiences and experts agree on their pre-eminence and mastery of an instrument; Noel Hill’s virtuosity has firmly established him as the defining Irish concertina player of our time.
...Noel Hill’s fame preceeds him in the form of Albums and broadcasts that serve as a forum for his talents.

Martina Evans is an extremely funny poet, but her work also has a more serious undertone. Bernard O’Donoghue has described her poems as ‘a miracle, for the way they combine total clarity with profundity’. Edward Denniston’s work will be well
known to Waterford audiences. This year he will be reading from his new collection of poetry. Edward is a highly entertaining reader, and a very fine poet indeed.

Sylvain Chomet’s second feature film is a winner on every level. Our weary hero is an over-the-hill magician, complete with less-than-friendly white rabbit; their adventures are based upon an unrealised script by Jacques Tati, the action of which Chomet transposed to Scotland after he moved there in 2004. Rich with visual jokes, seductive 1950s period detail and breathtaking views of city and wilderness alike, this is the work of a master in his field – and one of the most gorgeous evocations of Scotland in cinema history. - Edinburgh Film Festival 2010

Described by The Wall Street Journal as “the cleverest, most cunningly constructed, most assured play in years” The Beauty Queen of Leenane is a darkly comic thriller which portrays the ancient manipulative Mag and her virginal daughter, Maureen locked in a dance of mutual loathing which may be more durable than any love. Ben Barnes, whose production of this play won several major awards in North Americ, teams up with the internationally renowned designer, Todd Rosenthal (Tony and Olivier Awards for August Osage County) in his first Irish production of this award winning play.
