The events we have attended in the last fortnight include...
...as well as attending the Brent Connects evening and holding a high street pop up of our own.
Many of the concerns have stayed the same as previous updates but we have now started gaining insight into the concerns various age groups have, and we have started focusing more on the opportunities and solutions to the concerns being raised.
To support the vision being developed in Kingsbury, Brent Council are liaising with TfL and looking at future funding opportunities to support the vision. The exact outcomes, scale and timeframes for the project are still being explored and will be dependent on future funding. However, ensuring local community members are at the heart of the potential changes will be vital to the success of the project moving forward.

Celebrating Local Distinctiveness Building a network of Economic Activity
People have told us Kingsbury is ....
This presents an opportunity for local people to...
...all of these qualities to create a concept and focus for the future of Kingsbury based around valuing being outside and making Kingsbury Road a nicer place to linger.
Business owners and residents have shared they would like a more integrated business network.
By forming this network it would allow for:
better communication amongst businesses and thus lead to co-ordinated efforts towards improving Kingsbury Road
allow for opportunities to plan events and cultural activities that would bring increased footfall into the area
some businesses have expressed the need of having business advice and grant advice to help grow and improve their businesses and offer
young people have also suggested some of the businesses, such as the opticians and pharmacies, could offer work experience for young people through local schools.

In order to put together the recipe of Kingsbury that people are asking for
the wide pavements play a vital role in encouraging a more café friendly, attractive street with a pleasant pedestrian and cycling experience. Reducing the pavements to accommodate more cars could potentially provide benefits to the movement of vehicles, however at the same time detracting from the experience of visiting shops and sitting outside.
gave us insight into their experiences
of trying to park along the shops, unload their buggies and children and navigate
the area.
Some of the concerns over traffic and parking have been...
talked about the need for loading bays and parking for themselves and their
employees and improving the current parking
facilities.
informed us that traffic tends to build up along
Kingsbury Road especially on weekends.
However from the people we have spoken to so far
57% use public transport, cycle or walk to get to Kinsgbury Road
27% drive to Kinsgbury Road
9% use a mixed mode of transport
7% did not indicate mode of transport
“ Not just a shopping area where you pop in and out but somewhere with a
‘café culture’ or somewhere to linger ”
Improving and encouraging sustainable long term Movement
Ideas & Opportunitiesfor improving
movement
We have met cyclists who would like to see cycling
provision improved.
To accommodate the people who need to drive to Kingsbury, some business
owners suggested that they would like to have parking vouchers to give to their customers to allow them to park temporarily along Kingsbury
Road. They see it as a way to retain loyal customers and encourage new
customers.
There is also potential to explore a locally based reward card for all the shops along Kingsbury
Road who wished to participate, this could be incorporated into a
wider system encouraging the use of public transport, walking and
cycling.
There are a number of residents and shoppers who have said the roundabout
by Fryent way could be upgraded to improve traffic flow and it could be redesigned to be a focal point and an attractive gateway into Kingsbury.
Residents & Shoppers would like to see:

Encouraging a wider programme of Social Activity
Social and cultural activities span and link to all of the other themes raised.
To have local distinctiveness people would like to see more events that encourage the use of local facilities that are already in place such as the parks, library and the Institute.
Even in encouraging the use of public transport and better quality movement there is the notion that creating better walking and social spaces to allow for exercising, sitting and lingering on the street. People think this is important to encourage a more vibrant high street with a wide range of activities for all ages.
Visual quality also has a social element to it and there are a number of active groups and facilities in the area that could contribute ideas and time to generating more social activities. For example:
enhancing the greenery with Barnhill Conservation Group bringing new people to the area via The Institute celebrating Eid, Christmas, Diwali and other religious and cultural holidays with businesses and local residents ...and having more of a street presence for Kingsbury Library to attract people to spend more time in the area.
Supporting economic activity in the area also requires the bringing of businesses and local residents and shoppers together to start forming ideas for social events that could bring new younger and older audiences into the area. That way Kingsbury Road could go from being a vibrant street with diverse shops that people pop into then drive away, to being a vibrant street with an offer for all ages that attracts a diverse audience who choose to stay in the area longer.
