DEFINE

iMAGINE Upstate is a weeklong series of programs and signature events designed around six program tracks: LEARN, ENGAGE, CREATE, INNOVATE, LAUNCH, and MAKE.

iMAGINE Upstate’s Mission: Promote cultural and economic development with a celebration and showcase of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) innovation, creative and entrepreneurial activity in Upstate South Carolina.

iMAGINE Upstate’s Vision: Together we will create a collaborative environment that will generate inspiration and enable the “Aha” moments that will shape our future workforce in the Upstate!

iMAGINE Upstate is designed to benefit K-16 students, families, young professionals, and companies focused on our future.

iMAGINE Upstate will engage guests through lively and highly interactive presentations, workshops, challenges, and special events.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Ryan Heafy Executive Director, iMAGINE Upstate

Ryan,  a  Connec3cut  na3ve,  holds  a  B.S.  in  Mechanical  Engineering  from  the  University  of  Connec3cut,  and  an  MBA  from  Quinnipiac  University.  His  career  to  date  is  one  of  strong  innova3on,  transforma3on,  and  leadership  with  an  exper3se  in  quality  systems  and  supply  chain  management.  

Ryan  began  his  career  as  a  manufacturing  engineer  at  Sikorsky  AircraK  Corpora3on  and  was  quickly  promoted  to  engineering  project  management  in  strategic  sourcing,  tasked  with  developing  a  ver3cally  integrated  supply  chain  for  the  produc3on  of  Black  Hawk  helicopter  transmissions.  In  this  role,  Ryan  had  the  opportunity  to  visit  hundreds  of  manufacturing  suppliers  across  Europe  and  North  America.  It  is  this  experience  that  has  drawn  him  to  the  climate  of  growth  and  innova3on  in  Upstate  SC.  

In  January  2012,  Ryan  took  an  opportunity  to  advance  his  career  by  joining  the  strategic  leadership  team  at  ADEX  Machining  Technologies  in  Greenville,  SC.  There  he  helped  transform  the  company  into  a  state  of  the  art  precision  machining  center  for  the  aerospace,  defense,  and  energy  industries.  

Ryan’s  outgoing  personality  and  entrepreneurial  spirit  have  led  him  to  become  engaged  in  the  Upstate  community  very  quickly.  Since  moving  to  the  Upstate,  Ryan  has  been  an  ac3ve  member  of  the  Chamber  of  Commerce,  Leadership  Grenville  Class  40,  United  Way  YP20’s,  several  Advisory  Boards,  and  the  Upstate  SC  STEM  Collabora3ve,  where  he  launched  the  iMAGINE  Upstate  program.  

In  2014,  Ryan  began  pursuing  several  entrepreneurial  ventures  including  iMAGINE  Upstate,  launching  his  own  manufacturing  consul3ng  company,  and  ac3ng  as  a  channel  partner  for  STEMPremier.com,  connec3ng  academic  and  technical  STEM  talent  with  colleges,  organiza3ons  and  corpora3ons.    

Ryan  is  a  dedicated  community  leader  and  an  expert  in  workforce  development  in  science,  technology,  engineering,  and  mathema3cs  (STEM)  related  careers.  He  is  working  to  bridge  the  gap  between  industry,  academic  ins3tu3ons,  students,  and  communi3es  to  ensure  that  Upstate  South  Carolina  is  posi3oned  for  success  through  the  development  of  a  talented  workforce  pipeline.
