A CALL TO CHRISTIAN LIVING, AND ITS REWARD
Fourteen years ago when I first joined seminary back in my home country Kenya, the late
Fr. Dennis Tracy from Ireland was my vocation director. I not only remember him for having
accepted me to join the seminary, but more particularly because of the following prayer which
he gave me right on the first day I joined the seminary. It is this same prayer that I now wish
to share it with you.
By His divine power, He has given us all the things that we need for lifeand for true devotion, bringing us to know God himself, who has called usby His own glory and goodness.
In making these gifts, He has given us guarantee of something very greatand wonderful to come: through them you will be able to share the divinenature and to escape corruption in a world that is sunk in vices.
But to attain this, you will have to do your utmost yourselves, addinggoodness to the faith that you have, understanding to your goodness,self-control to your understanding, patience to your self-control, truedevotion to your patience, kindness towards your fellow men and womento your devotion, and, to this kindness, love.
If you have a generous supply of these, they will not leave you ineffectualor unproductive: they will bring you to a real knowledge of our Lord JesusChrist.
But without them a man/woman is blind or else short-sighted; he hasforgotten how his past sins were washed away.
Brothers and sisters, you have been called and chosen: work all the harderto justify it.
If you do all these things there is no danger that you will ever fall away. Inthis way you will be granted admittance into the eternal kingdom of ourLord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen!
I hope this prayer will help you in your prayer life too.
Thank you.
Fr. Isaac Kariuki

SONG OF SONGS
We invite you to join us for a study of the “Song
of Songs”from the book of the Old Testament.
This is a CD series by Fr. Nicholas Ayo, C.S.C.,

only 8 openings for this study. Deacon Leo will
be leading. Please register at the parish office.
The first session began on Thursday, June 22,
2017 at 5:30pm and will be a 6 week study in
the parish library.

[email protected] or check with the office.
Peter’s Pence Collection: Each year, near the
Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul on June 29, a
special charitable collection is solicited from
Catholics throughout the Roman Church.
The focus of the collection today is primarily
for the pope’s charitable efforts to help the poor,
the homeless and those in need. The annual
collection gives parishioners everywhere an
opportunity to actively demonstrate unity with the
pope, our personal support for his mission as Vicar
of Christ and a way to help our needy brothers and
sisters. Our collection will be July 1, 2.
Please be generous.

Little Saint Corner
Beginning this week, the staff of IHM presents the “Little Saint Corner”where a Saint of the Catholic Churchwho is lesser known will be presented. It is hoped that we can learn from these people that being a Saint dependsupon our co-operation with our heavenly Father and there are many paths and missions which God lays beforeus. Please use these Saints to learn from and to use as intercessors for our spiritual well-being.
Our first little Saint is St. Mary of Jesus Crucified!
On May 17, 2015, Pope Francis pronounced a new Carmelite Saint: St. Mary of JesusCrucified or, as she is often called, Mariam the “Little Arab.”Because of her uniquebackground, she is a great intercessor for peace in the Holy Land and the whole MiddleEastern region.
She was born Mariam Baouardy in 1846 in South Syria to Greek Catholic parents ofSyrian and Lebanese descent. At eight years of age, Mariam fell victim to a man who, filledwith religious rage, slit her throat and left her for dead. But a mysterious “num dressed inblue”healed Mariam, and for the rest of her life, Mariam believed her to be Our Lady.
During her lifetime, Mariam experienced many extraordinary spiritual graces andphenomena. She had a deep devotion to the Holy Spirit and to the Blessed Mother. she
entered Carmel in 1867 and in 1875 founded the first Carmelite Monastery in Palestine. She died in theBethlehem Carmel on August 26, 1878 at the age of 33. Let us beg this daughter of Palestine and Stain ofCarmel to pray for us and with us for an end to the violence and terrorism that is the cause of so much sufferingtoday.
