Grades 2-5 Encore Classes

Math Core: K-1, 2-3, 4-5This class will focus on strengthening math concepts through small group instruction, math games and activities. These classes will reinforce math skills learned this year and provide support for the next grade level. Reading/Writing Core: 2-3, 4-5Thisclasswillreinforceyourchild’sreadingandwriting skills and stamina. Using the workshop model, students will participate in a daily mini-lesson and independent reading, while also developing writing skills. These classes will also target areas of concern and provide support for the next grade level. Reading/Writing Core: K-1This class for Pre-K and K-1 will incorporate activities that will develop reading and writing skills and stamina through small group instruction with a variety of experiences.

Core Selections

All about Earth – Take a trip around planet Earth. Learn about different customs, food, environments, and traditions in the various continents. We will even learn different languages and spoken phrases.

Art Around the World – Students spend time studying images from around the world using various materials and mediums to recreate these images.

Breaking NEWS! - Introduction to reporting, broadcasting, and podcasts. Explore the world of communication through radio, television, and the Internet. We will take time to develop interview skills and learn how to broadcast news reports.

Chess Masters - Have you thought about thebenefitsoflearningthestrategicgameofChess? This class is designed to teach chess to children with no or little knowledge of the game. Introduction to the chessboard kingdom, rules of chess, and playing with classmates!

Culinary Culture – Learn to make yummy snacks!!! Given a bowl of ingredients, students will work in teams to come up with an original recipe. After preparing their dishes, “judges” will do a taste test and award the winning chefs! Everyone needs a tasty, delicious snack!

Everything Google! – Students will com-plete fun and creative projects using Google Apps for Education. Students will even learn some basic coding skills!

Future Fashion 2080 - Do you enjoy color, style, and design? Well, design your way into the year 2080 fashion and jewelry. We will sketch, design, and model our own pieces in class.

Game of Games - Math, Science, and Social Studies, Oh MY! Students will reinforce skills in Math, Science, and Social Studies through game play. Games that may be included, based on availability are: Scrabble Junior, Zingo, Sequence Numbers, Rock On, Moons and Planets: Solar System Memory, Magic School Bus: Science Explosion, Catan Jr., Great States Jr., Explore the World, In a Pickle, Buzz Word Jr., Rack-O, Blokus,

Global Cities - Examine cities as social spaces and local spaces in our global world. Students useliterature,culturalstudies,history,film,andsociology to engage in world studies.

Imagineering – Do you like to build things? Solveproblemscreatively?You’llenjoythisenrichment where you will create straw rockets and marshmallow catapults. Using simple and cheap materials, you will take part in the STEM engineering process.

Mini-Business – Become an entrepreneur! Learn about the market economy and basic economic skills by creating and marketing a small producttootherstudents.You’llcreateandprintyour own money to run your own business!

Move a Little More - Stretch, turn, tumble, leap, jump, and play through movement, musical interpretation, and more! Come join a class that will help prepare our world travelers for engaging with locals through movement and music.

Our Earth and Environment–It’sallabouttheEarth’sdirt,rocks,andsoil.Thecreativeartist will be able to make an array of objects. Students will showcase their studies of the Earth with clay art!

Passport to the Future - Get ready for an incredible adventure. Research and make your very own brochures to lure travelers to exotic destinations. Use the powers of creativity and learn

Poetry, Rhymes, & Raps! – Did you know that poetry is not just for reading? Poets add sound, music, and energy to make their lyrics come alive! We will perform our poetry with movement, rhythm, and drama. Come breathe life into the “spoken word” with us!

Rockets and Space Shuttles – Do you dream of traveling past the sun? Craft the most amazing rockets you can imagine. Have fun making space shuttles while reducing your carbon footprint at the same time!

Social Media Savvy - 25k likes? Learn how to create new content that will have you snapping andchatting,IGstylingandprofiling,and YouTubing your way to new followers. Learn to use social media in a safe environment. This course will help students navigate safe social media net-works, as well as guide them to create kid-friendly content that just might get them engaged in the business of social media.

Video Game Coding - Do you enjoy playing videogames?We’llkeepgamers’attentionbyintroducing them to video game coding and programming. Children will work online to create a visualworldandprogrammingprocess.Let’screateour own video games!

World Science, Math, and MORE! - Everyday items are used to experiment, calculate, and adjust hypotheses. Students will use hands-on manipulatives to theorize, create, and conclude based on evidence and experimentation. This class is for every future scientist and engineer.

The Art of Medicine - Students explore medicine through culture, images, artifacts, and learn how medicine in different parts of the world is utilized. Additionally, they will learn how customs and traditions feed into healing.

Beyond the Stars - Do you dream about what’shappeninginouterspace?Whatextra-terrestrial life exists beyond the clouds? Join us on a journey beyond the stars.Craft space ships, create creatures, imagine, and bring to life a new civilization beyond the stars.

Brain Games - Kids learn through activities and play. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles - Students will learn about various modes of

transportation, create lifelike transportation using their imagination and mixed media. Painting, printmaking, drawing, collage, and sculpture will be explored.

STAR Action – Do you love to act and sing? Do you want to be a star? Work with other students to put on scenes from your favorite books, stories, and movies. Work on memorization techniques, voiceprojection,fluency,anddevelopingyourcharacter. Perform in small groups and for your class!

Storytime Yoga - Students hear stories that inspire and engage, while learning how to stretch their minds and bodies. Using breathing techniques, yoga postures, and character education, students will have fun while learning and moving.

The Architectural Imaginary - Students will study world structures and construction throughout history into the 21st century. Some of these structures will be recreated using household materials.

The Great American Outdoors - Children need to get outside and play! Students will do just that by playing traditional games like: Hopscotch, Hide and Seek, Kick the Can, Capture the Flag, Parachute, Red Light/Green Light, Four Square, Jump Rope, Double Dutch, Jacks, Marbles, MotherMayI,SimonSays,Tag,TrafficCop,FreezeTag, and MORE!

Young Tourist - Students listen to stories about different times, places, and spaces. Using this knowledge students will use their imaginations to create passports to global destinations.

Youth and Culture Exchange - Students will participate in fun activities that introduce them to the world and world religions. Students will travel the globe to destinations via the Internet and social media, making connections with other cultures, students, and lifestyles.

World Dance - Students travel the world through videos and immerse themselves in learn-ing various styles of cultural dance, including but not limited to, Brazil: Samba, China: Dragon Dance, Cuba: Salsa, Russia: Ballet, Switzerland: Traditional Folk Dance, Argentina: Tango, Japa-nese: Kabuki, Austria: Viennese Waltz and MORE!
