IMPROVING INTRODUCTIONS AND THESIS STATEMENTS

Page 2: Improving introductions and thesis statements

EXAMPLE 1

When taking the political spectrum quiz, I realized there are many things I highly believe in and there are others I have no or little interest in. On this quiz, I scored as centrist moderate social libertarian. I agree because I am open to ideas, and I strongly believe in social freedom and less regulations. Three key issues that I believe are most important are abortion, non-citizens, and gay rights.

EXAMPLE 2

There are many political beliefs and parities each with their own unique characteristics and policies. I would consider myself a moderate because I can agree with opinions from the two main parties, Republicans and Democrats. Because of this, I view abortion, illegal drugs, and the economy in different ways. I also view the government in a different way. I think there are some things the government should be involved in and others that it should not. Abortion is one of the things that I do not think the government should be involved. However, I do believe that the government should be involved in illegal drugs and our economy. Each one of these issues can be difficult to talk about but are also difficult to argue. No matter what side you are on I believe they important too all Americans because it affects everyone in some way.

EXAMPLE 3When Americans had enough of British control over the states, they rebelled against them. When Americans were under fire at Bunker Hill, they stood their ground. When Americans were tired of King George III’s corrupted policies, they fought for their independence with every last word in the declaration. It was acts like these that changed the way Americans thought about government. Many had ideas on how the government should run this country and that resulted in what we know today as “political parties”. Since then, Americans have formed their own political believes on how the government should run our country. Nowadays, this movement is still going on strong. Right now the two most predominant political parties in the U.S are the Republicans and Democrats. Even though these two parties are the most common, not everyone shares the same views as they do. My political stance is based on a Centrist’s view. A Centrist/Moderate, known as middle-of-the-road position, are focused on strong principles, achieving common sense solutions to the status quo, gaining public trust, serving the common good, and addressing short and long term needs (Need article title U.S.Centrist.org) I believe my stance as a Centrist is supported by my opinions on three issues: healthcare, global warming, and same sex marriage.
