Our Report to the Community Washington | Fiscal Year 2018

Dear Friends of Mercy,

Mercy Health Foundation ended the year raising $932,000 to support Mercy Hospital Washington and the Mercy Four Rivers Clinic. While these donations reflect support for medication and transportation assistance for patients, infant car seats and areas of greatest need, a large part of this philanthropy supports our cardiology initiative; Mercy Vision for Cardiology | Bridging the Gap.

Special thanks to all of our friends who remain dedicated to Mercy’s mission. It is through this dedication that Mercy is able to deliver quality health care to our community. Thank you for helping us make a difference for so many patients and their families.

Giving Back to Make a Difference A Grateful Family’s Story

A mother became familiar with Mercy Cancer Center when her adult son was diagnosed with bone cancer. During every patient visit, the mother and son connected with nurses, including Connie Stelzer, nursing manager for Mercy Cancer Center.

As the son’s treatment came to an end, Connie learned that the mother wanted to thank Mercy for the incredible care her son had received and Connie helped connect the patient’s mother with Mercy Health Foundation. After speaking with the Foundation, the mother learned how her gift could truly make a difference in the lives of future patients.

The patient’s mother pledged to make an anonymous gift to

Mercy Health Foundation once a quarter for the rest of her life. And after additional discussions with the Foundation, she plans to leave a portion of her estate to Mercy as well.

This story is a testament of a family who is grateful to their caregivers and passionate about making a difference for others. Thanks to their generosity, future patients will experience better health outcomes and more advanced treatments.

A Matter of the HeartEnhancing Cardiac Care for Four Rivers Area ResidentsHeart disease accounts for one in seven deaths in the United States. Knowing that high quality cardiovascular care is vital to the health of our community, Mercy Health Foundation launched a campaign to enhance Mercy’s cardiac testing area and Nuclear Medicine Suite, and upgrade all cardiovas-cular equipment. With the help of a dedicated steering committee, Mercy Health Foundation is more than half way to our $2.1 million fundraising goal and we’re well on our way to enhancing cardiac services for Mercy’s patients.

Our Mission As the Sisters of Mercy before us, we bring to life the healing ministry of Jesus through our compassionate care and exceptional service.

Our Purpose Through collaborative partnerships, Mercy Health Foundation impacts the flourishing of our communities by inviting into our ministry those who have a passion to improve quality of life and make care accessible for all.

McAuley Clinic delivers quality dental care to about 4,000 uninsured or underinsured patients per year.

In June 2018, the Bernice Priger Charitable Foundation granted Mercy Health Foundation $8,000 to fund a much needed dental Pro-Cart for McAuley Clinic. This specialized piece of equipment is designed to assist the dentist in administering sedatives to children who would otherwise need to be fully sedated in a hospital operating room setting.

The Pro-Cart will be especially helpful for treating children with special needs who are not able to tolerate dental work without being fully sedated.

Mercy Health Foundation’s Corporate Partners, which is an ever-growing group of more than 20 Franklin County business, has also helped fund dental services at McAuley Clinic. The clinic is currently at capacity and treats about 30 patients a day.
