Reflections of Life

James Turner, Jr., was born October 12, 1947 to the

Reverend James E. Turner, Sr., and Bettie L. Bowe Turner. He

joined Whiteville Grove A.M.E. Zion Church at an early age.

James quietly left this life on January 27, 2017 at Sentara

Albemarle Medical Center.

He attended the Pasquotank County School system, and

graduated from P.W. Moore High School in 1967. Following

graduation, James joined the United States Army on January

5,1968 and was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War. On June 15,

1968 he married his high school sweetheart, Judy Baum Turner

and enjoyed the marital bliss for 49 beautiful years. To this union

were born three sons. After being discharged from the Army, he

worked many years at the IXL Furniture Company in Weeksville,

NC. Retiring from IXL, he began working with the North Carolina

Forestry Services in Elizabeth City.

James was a loving husband, father and grandfather. James

could do many things that enriched the loves of family and friends.

In the community when asked, he was always available to assist his

neighbors. He loved to cook and work in the yard. He took much

pride in his cucumbers, tomatoes and flowers, which grew

annually.

James leaves to cherish his memories, loving wife, Judy B.

Turner; sons, Reginald Darnell Turner (Treviette) of Raleigh, NC

and Randy Deron Turner of North Little Rock, AK; three

grandchildren, Lauren A Turner, Carmen C. Turner and Rashod

James Turner; sisters, Gertrude T. Bonds and Annie T. Hinton

(Luther) both of Elizabeth City, NC; brothers, Dennis L.

Turner(Monica) of Chesapeake, VA and Vernon L. Turner (Robin)

of Elizabeth City, NC; one uncle, Alonzo J. Turner (Rebecca) of

Hertford, NC; four aunts, Gertrude Turner Green of California,

Annie Mae Ferebee of Currituck, NC, Ella Marie Thornton and

Adeline Dance both of Elizabeth City, NC; one special

goddaughter, Janiah Jacox and loving neighbors, Craig and Ann

Jacox and family; He also leaves to cherish a host of nieces,

nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by one

son, Allen Deron Turner, sister Mary T. Hughes; parents, Rev.

I'm Free

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free, I'm following the path God laid for me. I took his hand when I heard his call, I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to

work, to play. Tasks left undone must stay that way, I've found that peace at the end of the day. If my parting has left a

void, Then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Ah, yes, these things too I will

miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the

sunshine of tomorrow. My Life's been full, I savoured much, Good friends, good times, a loved one' touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,

Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and share with me, God wanted me now, He

set me free.
