After significant service to the Board whilst serving in the
Financial and then Chair portfolios, Mr Tjaart van Stryp, has
decided to relinquish his role as Chairman of the Board. During
his tenure, the College has benefited from a tight fiscal policy
and a clear strategic direction. We are most grateful for his
service.
The Board has gone through the required nomination process
and I am pleased to announce that Mr Sean Browne has been
appointed as Mr Van Stryp's successor. As the College
Executive, we are delighted with the appointment and have no
doubt that the Board will continue in its mandate of governance
and lead the College forward as the destination of choice.
I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself, as the new
Chairman of the Board of Governors of Dainfern College.
I am married to Sarah, and have two children in the Senior
Prep: Jack and Olivia. Sarah and I have been parents at
Dainfern College since 2012, with both Jack and Olivia having
started in Grade 0. It is the school we have entrusted with our
children, and it is the school we have come to love over the
years for everything it has done for our family. Over the last
three years I have also had the honour of serving on the Board
of Governors.
During this eight-year period within the Dainfern College
community, I have had the pleasure of spending a lot of time
with many of the teachers and staff in the school. I have
consistently been overwhelmed at their commitment to their
students and their jobs, leaving me in no doubt that they are
our greatest asset at Dainfern College.
A big thank-you from the Parents' Association for the amazing
support from the Dainfern College family at the Family Colour
Fun Run. Thanks in particular to all the staff, Parents'
Association members and volunteers who helped make the
event a success.
Please note that any unmarked lost property not collected by
the end of term will be donated to Outreach - please make
every effort to come and look for your lost items.
Dance coach Mrs Nicole Pearce and
two Grade 6 students, Kenneth Lobe
and Kwande Maluleke, have been
invited to participate in the opening
ceremony of the Tri-Nations when the
Springboks play Australia at Ellis Park
Stadium tomorrow, Saturday 20 July.
We look forward to seeing Mrs Pearce, Kwande and Kenneth
on television performing in front of thousands of people from
all over the world.
Come and join us for an evening of entertainment and pizzas
as bands from schools all over Johannesburg compete to see
who will walk away with the prizes. Tickets are available
through the school smartphone app.
In my time on the Board, I have been fortunate to work closely
with the College Executive Committee, led by Matthew Davies.
Under their leadership, I have observed Dainfern College grow
from strength to strength in providing an excellent holistic
education to our children, espousing the strong values of our
community. I have every confidence that Mr Davies and the
Executive, supported by the Board of Governors, will continue
to make Dainfern College the school of choice for the parent
body and learners.
The importance of preparing our children for the ever-more
complex world that awaits them is not lost on me. At Dainfern
College, we have an Executive, staff and teachers who,
through their tireless work, dedicate their lives to ensuring that
the students of Dainfern College are ready for the world that
awaits them. Against the backdrop of their commitment, as well
as that of our parent body and students, it is my privilege to
now serve as the Chairman of the Board, and to contribute in
some small way to our wonderful school.
As a final word, I want to extend a thanks on behalf of the
entire Dainfern College community to Mr Tjaart van Stryp for
his leadership over the last three years. His legacy is evident in
the strength of our school today.
I am excited for what the future holds, and look forward to
engaging with you all. I wish you a wonderful weekend.
