Alcácer do Sal is a council with an extremely rich heritage. At an architectural level, the AlcácerCastle, the Senhor dos Mártires Sanctuary, the
Onze Mil Virgens Chapel and the Santiago church stand out. In Torrão, it is worth visiting the “Solar dos Viscondes” — a mixture of “Pombal” style with the structure of 18th century aristocratic Baroque.
Without leaving the Pousada, visit the Museum Centre of the Alcácer Castle, of an enormous
archaeological importance.
You can also visit the “salt galleons”, the traditional, and unique in the world, boats of the
Sado River, with an enormous ethnographic value; an important element in the history of Alcácer,
when salt was regarded as “white gold”.
