FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER Sunday, May 3, 2020 at 11:00am
Virtual Worship
Sermon Topic: “The Gateway to Life”
Sermon text: John 10:7-10
This Sunday, May 3rd we will spend time with Jesus, who describes himself not only as the “Good Shepherd,”
but also as the “gate” for the sheep. In John 10:9a Jesus says, “I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be
saved.” As we attempt to navigate life and living, even prior to the Coronavirus we had and have so many
options before us, inviting us try this, that and other things. Some people have no personal peace (right now),
others are struggling to find their purpose and place. Jesus, past and present invites us to enter and engage life
through Him to be saved. To be “saved,” means that we are safe, secure, protected and at peace with our
temporal and eternal existence. Are you saved? Are you seeking and searching for that which only Jesus can
give? You are invited to join us this Sunday as we hear from the Lord who will guide and direct us to access life
through Him as the true gateway to living.
First Reading: Acts 2:42–47 (The life of the first Christians)
Epistle Reading: 1 Peter 2:19–25 (The example of Christ, who suffered for us)
Holy Gospel: Luke 24:13–35 John 10:1–10 (Jesus is the gate of the sheep.)
May Day Greetings! As a youngster growing up in Alabama, May 1st was always a special day filled with
various school and community activities. It was a day to gather with other schools at the local park or
playgrounds. Good food and fellowship were enjoyed by all. This May Day 2020, let’s do something that marks
this day in a special way. Greet love ones with a Happy May Day call, text or email. Go outside, walk around
the house or neighborhood, observe nature and thank God for flowers, plants and life. With May Day and the
unfolding of Spring may it remind us that the Lord’s will is still unfolding and nothing shall stop it, not even
COVID-19. Happy May Day people of God! Pastor Wiggins

SPLC Helping Those Who Hurt During COVID-19
As I was preparing to write a personal
check earlier this week to Lutheran
Social Services of Jacksonville,
because my heart over recent days
has been convicted to help those
who are hurting due to COVID-19, Mr.
Moses Bronson called me and asked if SPLC had a special fund to help people
who are hurting. I told him that we didn't have a specific fund for COVID-19
people who are hurting, but I would talk to the leaders in my weekly ZOOM
meeting to see what we might do. Below are the results of our meeting.
SPLC will do two things:
1. From our regular operating mission and ministry budget we will give
$600.00 to Clara White Mission. This mission provides daily meals to the
homeless and hungry in Jacksonville.
2. We will ask members and friends who are able to give a special donation
to SPLC that will be given to Lutheran Social Services (LSS) of
Jacksonville. LSS has five major programs operating to serve those hurting
and in need. The program areas are Hunger Relief, Refugee Services,
HIV/AIDS Care, Career & Financial Planning and Money
Management. For more information see this link (LSS). Deadline for giving
will be May 15, 2020. Checks may be mailed or delivered to St. Paul
Lutheran Church, 2730 Edgewood Ave. West, Jacksonville, FL 32209,
earmarked “LSS.”
The bible tells us in Romans 12:13, "Share with the Lord's people who are in
need. Practice hospitality." May God continue to bless us as we strive to be a
blessing to others in this pandemic. If you have any questions please let me
know. Thanks for your generosity. Pastor Wiggins
