When to Use MODBUS® Slave/Server

MODBUS interface uses the terms Master/Slave when communication is over a

serial connection, such as RS485. The terms Client/Server are used when referring

to communication over an IP network.

A MODBUS slave is synonymous with a MODBUS server. The term refers to the

fact that the controller is set to serve up data to any MODBUS device that is

requesting it (a master or client). For example, if you are looking to provide

information from a Carrier® Chiller or RTU to a third party via an RS485

connection, you would set your protocol to MODBUS slave.

Likewise, a MODBUS master is synonymous with a MODBUS client. When you

are looking to obtain data from a third party system, you would set your

communication protocol to Master/Client.

Working with System & Point Names

ComfortDRAW allows point shapes (AI, AO, DI, DO) to have a two-part name

when added to a drawing.

System Name: A four character name that describes the system the point is part of

such as: IE; AH1, RT1, CHLR, HX, EX1, etc.

• System names may be added, edited, or deleted in any “Drawing

Information” dialog box

• A user selects a system name to be active for the drawing

• The active system name is added to the point whenever a point is added to

the drawing

• If a user has selected an incorrect “System Name”, the last series of points to

receive that name may be updated to a new name by using the “Change

System Name” icon.

Point Name: A twenty character name that describes the actual use of the point

shape.

• A point name may come from the Library of Point names. Right-click on the

“Point Shape” and select “Edit Material Code or Description”

• A user may also add a custom point name by selecting: “Point

Shape”>Right-Click>Select “Shape Data” and edit the point field.

SAT High Limit Functionality with VAV, VVT, and RTU Open Systems

Questions have been raised regarding the use of Pressurization Mode as part of the

SAT High Limit airflow management sequencing, which this application note will

clarify. The primary purpose of the SAT High Limit sequence is to avoid short

cycling of the heat stages, keeping the unit running and helping to prevent freeze-

ups and under-conditioning of the controlled spaces.

To learn more about the SAT High Limit Functionality with VAV, VVT and RTU

Open Systems, refer to bulletin #OAPN026.
