Welcome to the Summer Term and how apt that is as the April 20 th return to school was one of the sunniest and warmest starts for several years. Refreshed from a two week break, it has been really noticeable how happily students and staff have diligently and purposefully settled to serious study and hard work, with Year 11 focussed upon their remaining few weeks of GCSE preparation and Years 9 and 10 responding sensibly and determinedly to their examination practice. For your information, this edition includes the Summer GCSE timetable. I have thus really enjoyed being ‘out and about’ at lunchtime, watching students relax in the early sunshine, noting their excellent behaviour and increasing maturity in getting right that important balance of study and recreation. As my students mature, they more readily understand the message that high academic performance follows attitude and the attitude that the vast majority have displayed upon their return to school is a most impressive one, which increases my pride in them as their Principal. I would also like to thanks mums and dads in this respect, too, because developing the right attitude , which will help young people to maximise their academic and social potential, is highly dependent upon the support of their parents and I am most appreciative of the strong partnership we enjoy, notably in your support of the Academy’s standards’ agenda, exemplified in the extremely smart uniform you ensure your children wear. If my students’ smart appearance is an indicator of their smart attitude and smart thinking , then I thank you very much indeed for enabling such a smart start to what I intend will be another happy and successful term.

Welcome to the Summer Term and how

apt that is as the April 20th return to

school was one of the sunniest and

warmest starts for several years.

Refreshed from a two week break, it

has been really noticeable how happily

students and staff have diligently and

purposefully settled to serious study and

hard work, with Year 11 focussed upon

their remaining few weeks of GCSE

preparation and Years 9 and 10

responding sensibly and determinedly

to their examination practice. For your

information, this edition includes the

Summer GCSE timetable.

I have thus really enjoyed being ‘out

and about’ at lunchtime, watching

students relax in the early sunshine,

noting their excellent behaviour and

increasing maturity in getting right that

important balance of study and

recreation. As my students mature, they

more readily understand the message

that high academic performance

follows attitude and the attitude that

the vast majority have displayed upon

their return to school is a most

impressive one, which increases my

pride in them as their Principal.

I would also like to thanks mums and

dads in this respect, too, because

developing the right attitude , which will

help young people to maximise their

academic and social potential, is highly

dependent upon the support of their

parents and I am most appreciative of

the strong partnership we enjoy, notably

in your support of the Academy’s

standards’ agenda, exemplified in the

extremely smart uniform you ensure your

children wear. If my students’ smart

appearance is an indicator of their

smart attitude and smart thinking , then

I thank you very much indeed for

enabling such a smart start to what I

intend will be another happy and

successful term.

On Wednesday 25th March, The

County High School, Leftwich hosted

a special visitor who had been

invited by the Education for Life

Department to support the KS4

Religious Studies curriculum. Freddy

Naftel came and delivered hour

long presentations to Year 9 and 10

students on Judaism, where he

spoke about his own experiences of

being Jewish, anti-Semitic bullying,

and his family ancestry which saw

several of his relatives become

victims of the Holocaust. He even

had time to talk to Year 7 students

about Jewish practices of dress,

prayer and diet. All students

responded to Freddy's presentations

with interest and positivity. A

fantastic day for all!

Tom Rocke, 11T has been

offered a place at the Junior

Royal Northern College of Music

which is a prestigious weekend

specialist music school, to study

horn and piano.

He has also been asked to be a

part of a National Youth

Orchestra touring orchestra,

beginning in July.

We are all very proud of him!

Mrs J. Curry

Learning Leader: Music

On 21st April I had the great pleasure

of taking a team of our Year 8 and 9

students to the UK Maths Challenge

Regional Final at Manchester

Grammar School.

The boys (Sam Flower 9G, Goldman

Jiao 9B, Nathan Whitehead 8R and

Matthew Worsdale 8R) were

exemplary throughout and made a

fantastic team as they worked on

some really fiendish maths problems.

At the end of the event the placings

were given out and, from a field of

37 schools from across the North

West, The County High School,

Leftwich came 4th!

This was a fantastic result, though

we are determined to do better!

Look out for some Maths Challenge

questions coming your way and, if

you are in Years 7 or 8 and you feel

you could take on the best in the

region, you could be competing

next year!

43 Students and 5 members of staff

recently spent 4 days in Paris. The trip

was packed with cultural and fun

experiences for students.

We visited both famous Parisian

Landmarks and Galleries. Students

were lucky enough to visit Notre

Dame Cathedral. They scaled the

steps at Montmartre, saw amazing

views of Paris at Tour Montparnasse,

took a cruise down the River Seine,

Bateaux Parisiens and saw numerous

other landmarks as we were driven

around Paris.

We visited Musée d’Orsay, a

fantastic gallery that was an old

railway station, Musée Rodin, one

of the world’s most famous

sculptures, Musée de l’Orangerie,

which houses Monet’s famous

Water Lilies, truly breath-taking.

We saw the Venus de Milo and

the Mona Lisa at the Musée du

Louvre and visited the famous

Pompidou centre which houses

more contemporary works of Art.

We also spent a day at

Disneyland, lovely to see young

adults revert to young children as

they ran around the park to find

their favourite Disney characters:

Mr Smith’s quest to find Buzz Light-

year was also fruitful. A fantastic

Art trip that I know both students

and staff enjoyed.

School uniform in the Summer

term is the same as for the other

two terms (with the exception of

sportswear). On warm days

students will be allowed to

remove their tie or jumper in

lessons if their teacher gives them

permission.

uniforms please visit the Uniform

Guidelines page on our website.

with “Tetra” winning the high

school section.

Within the nine bands that

performed on the night, five

bands had current or past

students from our Academy in

the High School and 6th form

sections. It was a very proud

evening.

Mrs L. Wells

Teacher of Music

The Spring concert saw the Music

Department host musicians from

Kingsmead Primary School. The

Kingsmead wind band performed

a varied programme to a

packed hall who were left in no

doubt as to the wealth of talent

at the school. The confidence of

the children was clear to see as

various small groups and soloists

performed brilliantly.

The musicians of The County High

School again left an audience

wanting more, performing music

ranging from Miss Saigon, Pharell

Williams’ “Happy” to music form

Disney movies!

Another sell out, top notch

evening!

The Summer concert will be held

on Friday 10th July.

On Wednesday 1st April, Sir John

Deane’s hosted Battle of the

Bands. The County High School,

Leftwich had two bands

performing on the evening along

with bands from Middlewich High

School and Weaverham High

School, performing in the same

category.

The two bands from The County

High School, Leftwich were

“Without a Trace” and “Tetra”.

They both did exceptionally well
