Snuneymuxw First Nation Honoured to Host Prime Minister
The Snuneymuxw First Nation was honoured to be a part of hosting Prime Minister Justin Trudeau,
Attorney General Jody Wilson-Raybould and Minister of Defence Harjit Sajjan today in Snuneymuxw terri-
tory. Snuneymuxw was encouraged by a private meeting with Attorney General Jody Wilson-Raybould
where we discussed opportunities for working together and recognition and reconciliation between Snun-
eymuxw and Canada.
Snuneymuxw also had a private meeting with the Prime Minister where the necessity for trans-
formative change based on the recognition and implementation of rights was discussed. The implemen-
tation of the Treaty of 1854 is the foundation of relations between Snuneymuxw and Canada. We
shared this with the Prime Minister. We are happy that Canada acknowledged the Treaty during the
Town Hall.
We also shared concerns about local matters, such as the need to find a new approach to harbour
governance and we shared our belief in the need to stand together to address important opportunities in
the region, such as at Newcastle Island and the former Camp Nanaimo lands adjacent to Vancouver Island
University. While Snuneymuxw has concerns about the protection of the environment and the Salish Sea,
we were encouraged by the openness of Prime Minister Trudeau to engage in the critical issues between
us.
The Prime Minister shook my hand and confirmed that Canada will engage with Snuneymuxw to
seek to resolve issues and to build a new future together,” said Chief Michael Wyse.
Chief Wyse, on his first day in office as Chief of the Snuneymuxw First Nation, was honoured to provide a
welcome and opening remarks to the Prime Minister’s Town Hall session that followed. Snuneymuxw Elder
Lolly Good provided a prayer and welcome song.

If You Do Not Have a Status Card
If you do not have sufficient IDs to obtain a status card, you may wish to get a
Temporary Confirmation of Registration Document (TCRD).

vices. It is available from INAC by calling 1-800 -567-9604 and asking for the
TCRD. You will be transferred to the Winnipeg Processing Unit (WPU) and will
need to answer questions to verify your identity.
The document will be sent by mail and contains your full name, date of birth,
registration date, registration number, and TCRD issuance and expiration
dates.
The document has a seal so vendors can tell it is an official document, and it is recommended that the

I would like to congratulate all of our QQS for getting their First Aid certificates on Tuesday, February 20th, 2018! The follow-
ing staff have officially completed their Emergency Child Care First Aid CPR/AED Level B and CPR/AED Level C. Everyone
received two certificates! Congratulations to the following staff members:
In April all of our students will be starting to do swimming lessons. So parents please get your child ready for this by making
sure that they have the proper swimwear for their lessons. (bathing suit, swimming shorts) More information, permission
slips, swimming lesson schedule will be sent home with your child.
We are continuously working on our programs here at QQS! We want to ensure that each child is receiving the best educa-
tion possible. We have set the bar high for each student and staff member. We are constantly working hard to achieve our
goals on a daily basis! So parents keep on sending your child in daily! Encourage them to do their best! We only believe in
success! We will succeed!

SFN Daycare Update February 9, 2018 marked the last day of work for the SFN Daycare Manager, Beckie Wesley. After 14 ½ years, mostly in the position as manager, Beckie worked tirelessly for the families and kids of SFN with her knowledge, dedication and professionalism. We will miss her. Eleanor Manson, also a Daycare veteran, is filling the position of Daycare Manager on an interim basis. We will keep you posted as to any further changes. Thank you to Beckie for all of her time here and thank you for Elea-nor for agreeing to step in. Of interest to all of us is that a recent review of the Daycare was conducted by external facilitators who travel throughout BC observing all the Aboriginal Head Start programs in the province. The review team stated that the SFN Daycare is rated in the top five in BC and has one of the best centres for outdoor play environment they have seen in BC. This excellent review does not come by accident and is directly due to the expertise and commitment of the Day Care leadership and all the staff. Thank you to them for everything that they do.
