Incarnation Image As we come back together after the renewing season of summer, its good to think about those actions on our part that can bind us together. The follow- ing 7 directives are from a book by Norma Cook Everest a former seminary professor of mine. I encourage members of Incarnation to join me in heeding them as we reassemble this fall for another exciting year of mission and minis- try together in Christs name. 1. Rely on God. So simple and yet so difficult. We want to be the central play- ers; we want to figure out for ourselves how to escape the struggle or to re- solve the problems. We want to impose our own rules upon the events and people in our lives. We construct layer upon layer of defenses to keep the un- expected and the unpredictable from upsetting our carefully ordered world. If we are imprisoned by the need to control our existence, we cannot be Gods person for others. Rather, we are captive to the need to protect ourselves against others and manipulate them for our own purposes. So, we cannot be agents of Gods grace to a broken and hurting world. These efforts to rely on ourselves isolate us from God and close us to the strange and mysterious working of God in the world. To rely on God is to trust the liberating power of Christ. 2. Remember our Baptism. Each of us is called to Christ in baptism. Amid all differences of status and title and in the midst of antagonisms, each of us is a child by Christs grace. The church is a com- munity of those who have been promised forgiveness of sins and newness of life through baptism in Jesus Christ. Such a community of believers lives in the awareness that through the cross we are em- powered. We as a resurrection people are empowered to live in suffering love for our neighbor. What God has done in uniting us in Christs death and resurrection in baptism, God continues to do each mo- ment of our lives as we face conflicts and struggles. God has defeated the forces of evil. That does not mean that we have no struggles, but that, beginning with the life-giving waters of baptism, Christ gives us faith and hope. 3. Recognize the Variety of the Spirits Gifts among Gods People. A community of Christians is a collection of gifts with the potential to bring out each persons strengths and carry each persons weaknesses. We dare not stifle one anothers gifts or hide our own. The body of Christ is healthy when all of us use such gifts to respond to others and to nurture one another for mission. Out of such one- ness and such diversity of gifts, the work of Christ is called forth. 4. Trust One Another. People may leave the church because of conflict more than for any other rea- son. People dont join a church because they see a good fight going on there. Neither will they join or stay at an apathetic church exhibiting no energy. The opposite of destructive conflict is not boredom; it is trust. Can I trust the church? We hold out false expectations when we hope to find a church in which there is no conflict, and yet we can hope for and work toward a faith community that is a place to faithfully struggle with conflict. This calls for a trustworthy environment. We cannot fully trust one an- other, particularly ourselves. God is love and God is trustworthy. We can confidently trust Gods love, which frees us to create a trustworthy environment to live in relationship. 5. Encourage and Support One another. We may be able to work through some of our bondage and brokenness alone with God. But when God deals with us, we will ultimately need to deal with one another. In such times we confess our sins to one another and bear one another s burdens. Christ reu- nites us so that we become for one another the means of grace through which God brings us to whole- ness. Reunion is Gods gift. 6. Bear One Anothers Pain and Suffering. In a caring fellowship in Christ, the people care for one another and for those around them. This means listening, listening very carefully. Jesus listened; he listened more than he spoke. To listen to one anothers needs is a sign of Gods grace working in our world. 7. Work at a Shared Vision of Mission. When a congregation looks inward only, the result is a poor morale, stress, and an obsession with maintenance. But if a church recognizes and engages in the larger challenge of mission, it will turn outward as it listens and grows. Witness, service, and healing are the keys. Incarnation Image As we come back together after the renewing season of summer, it’s good to think about those actions on our part that can “bind us together.” The follow-ing 7 directives are from a book by Norma Cook Everest a former seminary professor of mine. I encourage members of Incarnation to join me in heeding them as we reassemble this fall for another exciting year of mission and minis-try together in Christ’s name.

1. Rely on God. So simple and yet so difficult. We want to be the central play-ers; we want to figure out for ourselves how to escape the struggle or to re-solve the problems. We want to impose our own rules upon the events and people in our lives. We construct layer upon layer of defenses to keep the un-expected and the unpredictable from upsetting our carefully ordered world. If we are imprisoned by the need to control our existence, we cannot be God’s person for others. Rather, we are captive to the need to protect ourselves against others and manipulate them for our own purposes. So, we cannot be agents of God’s grace to a broken and hurting world. These efforts to rely on ourselves isolate us from God and close us to the strange and mysterious working of God in the world. To rely on God is to trust the liberating power of Christ.

2. Remember our Baptism. Each of us is called to Christ in baptism. Amid all differences of status and title and in the midst of antagonisms, each of us is a child by Christ’s grace. The church is a com-munity of those who have been promised forgiveness of sins and newness of life through baptism in Jesus Christ. Such a community of believers lives in the awareness that through the cross we are em-powered. We as a resurrection people are empowered to live in suffering love for our neighbor. What God has done in uniting us in Christ’s death and resurrection in baptism, God continues to do each mo-ment of our lives as we face conflicts and struggles. God has defeated the forces of evil. That does not mean that we have no struggles, but that, beginning with the life-giving waters of baptism, Christ gives us faith and hope.

3. Recognize the Variety of the Spirit’s Gifts among God’s People. A community of Christians is a collection of gifts with the potential to bring out each person’s strengths and carry each person’s weaknesses. We dare not stifle one another’s gifts or hide our own. The body of Christ is healthy when all of us use such gifts to respond to others and to nurture one another for mission. Out of such one-ness and such diversity of gifts, the work of Christ is called forth.

4. Trust One Another. People may leave the church because of conflict more than for any other rea-son. People don’t join a church because they see a good fight going on there. We cannot fully trust one an-other, particularly ourselves. God is love and God is trustworthy. We can confidently trust God’s love, which frees us to create a trustworthy environment to live in relationship.

5. Encourage and Support One another. We may be able to work through some of our bondage and brokenness alone with God. But when God deals with us, we will ultimately need to deal with one another. In such times we confess our sins to one another and bear one another’s burdens. Christ reu-nites us so that we become for one another the means of grace through which God brings us to whole-ness. OUR 2020 STEWARDSHIP DRIVE

A word form our

Stewardship Chair

Hello and May God Bless You!

It is Fall already?! Where did the summer go?

For me, this is a very busy time of the year. I have a lot of things going on and it seems that time goes faster and faster and I am al-ways playing catch-up.

This is also the time of year where we need to take a step back, take a deep breath and begin to look towards the future. Incarnation Lutheran Church is also at that stage in its calendar cycle. Each of us needs to look forward to see how we can fit in to our Church Family here at Incarna-tion.

In your monthly newsletter you will find a Financial Pledge form and a Time & Talent form. Both of these forms are a big part of how the Incarnation Church Council will plan for our future. Eve-ryone knows that we need the Financial Pledges to be completed and turned in. It is the basis for our financial planning for 2020.

Besides our ongoing monthly commitments, we also have some problems that creep up on us from time to time. The Parking Lot had to be redone, some electrical work became a HUGE pri-ority, and we still have windows and doors to take care of. It is with your Financial Pledge and commitment that Incarnation can plan on which of these projects can be done, and when they can be scheduled.

A more important part of Stewardship is the personal time each of us can commit to helping within the Incarnation Community. We understand that not everyone can mow the lawn and not everyone can cook for Lenten Supper, but when each of us takes a small step forward, we find that the talents of our congregation are incredible. We have a glorious choir, we have people taking care of furnace filters, we have people paying the bills and people doing so much more. Please take some time to look at all the ways you can give a small amount of your time for the church. Maybe it is counting the offering on a Sunday or two, or maybe you are able to help out with an Easter Breakfast, or maybe it’s just in helping with making quilts for those less fortunate. God gave us all talents and the ability to help our neighbor or to support a congregation. All we are asking is that you look deep into who you are and see if there is a way you can be a bigger part of Incarnation Lutheran Church.

This year, we will provide a basket for you to place your Time & Talent forms and your Financial Pledge forms in and on November 3rd, Fall Festival Sunday, all the forms will be brought up to the alter and blessed by pastor Ralph.

We thank you for your tithing and your Time and Talents. There is so much that goes on at In-carnation, it is sometimes hard to keep track but with your financial support and individual help, it will all get done.

In Christ,

Stewardship Committee 2019

Your generous donations to House of Hope

Although the Wednesday worship services

have concluded for the year, the generosity

of Incarnation continues to be evident. We

are happy to report that a total $1,250.00

was received in loose cash donations this

summer and will be given to The Lord’s

had vote to donate all loose cash donations

received during the Wednesday service be

given to the spiritual based orphanage in

everyday necessities – a loving and support-

to support the personal growth and well-

being for 45 children.

FALL HARVEST FEST November 3, 2019

Harvest time is an occasion to lift up all the gifts which God

has given us and to remember all the people that have that

have been part of our faith walk.

Two church calendar events are wrapped up in this Fest:

Stewardship and All Saints Sunday. They come together to

create opportunity to gather as a family, to thank Our Lord

and Savior for all the blessings we have received through-

out this year. Please invite your family and friends to this

celebration that begins with worship at 9:00 a.m.

Potluck follows Worship

Fest continues with Potluck, including Tim’s remarkable BOOYAH. A musical jam

session during the meal will be provided by Incarnation’s musicians.

Tim’s chicken booyah will be available for take-out as supplies last.

Sign-up sheets will be available shortly to aid in the planning

All funds from the booyah take-out sales as well as the free will-offering at the meal will go towards

the 2019 Capital Improvement project that updated the exterior lighting and sealing the parking lot.
