Slide 4 Body Image and Self Concept Body image refers to the view you have on your own body and how you feel about it. Feeling bad about your body can result in negative affects such as severe self esteem issues. While on the other hand feeling good about your body image can have good affects like good self esteem resulting in you being happier with your role in society. Slide 5 Genetic predisposition to exercise, sport and physical activity This factor is basically your body determines what sport you will be best suited for. We are bound to our bodies and we cannot change that. For example, if I was short and fat, basketball would not be suited for me. This debate is whether athletes are 'born' or 'made'. Slide 6 Somatotype and body shape Mesomorph Mesomorph A wedge shaped body A cubical head Wide broad shoulders Muscled arms and legs Narrow from front to back rather than side to side. Narrow hips A minimum amount of fat Slide 7 Somatotype and body shape Endomorph Endomorph A pear shaped body A rounded head Wide hips and shoulders Wider front to back rather than side to side. A lot of fat on the body, upper arms and thighsfat Slide 8 Somatotype and body shape Ectomorph Ectomorph A high forehead Receding chin Narrow shoulders and hips A narrow chest and abdomen Thin arms and legs Little muscle and fat Slide 9 Clothing A factor that can influence attitudes towards physical activity is clothing. Sports that require uniforms that may be tight, short or revealing may turn people away as they are not comfortable with their body image. Slide 10 Individual Personalities Every person has their own unique set of values and beliefs that will affect that choice of sport Slide 11 Faking Injury Receiving extra time to recuperate Running the clock down (depending on the timing rules) Causing a penalty Breaking the oppositions momentum.
