Although the brief was set by Swarovski, after gathering a broad range of research
we soon realised that the brief set was already being fullled by a new Swarovski
sub-brand called Lola & Grace. It was hard to ignore the development of the sub-
brand so myself and Sadie made the decision to move away from Swarovski and
create a range of promotional packaging for Lola & Grace.
-
Through our combined research about Lola & Grace myself and Sadie took
the decision to produce a range of limited packaging that was inspired by the
jewellery as well as the latest fashion. By working with Sinead OHerlihy we
wanted to propose the idea of having a clothing range that complemeted the
Lola & Grace jewellery.

Going for a simple square box design, made especially for rings, but can also
package other jewellery. Making it slightly more quirky by making the lid slightly
angled rather than straight across, this ensures the pattern is revealed around
the box.
-
Making the base and lid of the box seprate with the middle section designed to
have a pattern printed onto it, so the lid sits just onto the middle section of the
packaging.

The initial starting point behind the packaging was to creating vector based
patterns that were inspired by the new range of jewellery. After created a series
of patterns we found that we needed something that was more relevant to the
fashion range designed by Sinead OHerlihy, as these patterns just didnt work
as well.
-
After the vector based patterns I began working on patterns that were more
organic, using water colour paints. These tted the range of jewellery as well as
the dresses designed by Sinead. As well as the idea behind the patterns myself
and Sadie also decided to make sure we kept a limited colour palette so that the
different packaging would still tie in together.

Using the individual water colour patterns that I had created, I scanned them in
to create repeated patterns in illustartor, this meant the pattern was slightly more
condensed and worked across the packaging.
-
Myself and Sadie decided to go for creating two repeated patterns each so we
had four different packaging concepts with two of our patterns each. We decided
to keep the colours similar across all the packaging.

Using the original water colour patterns to be printed onto the gift bags. Looking
at which patterns suite the rest of the packaging prints ensuring the colours tie
the packaging together.
-
After myself and Sadie and started working with Sinead we found that she was
showcasing her collection at Manchester Fashion Week, we thought it would be
a great idea to create the gift bags and packaging as promotional material that
could be given out to VIP guests at Manchester Fashion Week.

As well as the packaging, we had proposed the idea of merging the Lola & Grace
store with the House of Herlihy. We felt that this would ensure the consumers
would engage with the brand more as well as giving up and coming fashion
designers exposure. Although the proposal was based on a merger with the
House of Herlihy, it could easily work with any up and coming designer.
-
We both came up with individual for the shop front, seeing what we could create,
after talking about our designs we were able to come together to create the nal
shop front which included the most relevant aspects of our designs.
