EDUARD – JULY NEWSLETTER 1st July 2009 After the posting of our June newsletter, we were inundated with a lot of questions and requests regarding the new canopy for the Bf 109E-4. Unfortunately, we can’t accommodate at this time, as the part isn’t even ready yet, and won’t be until the fall. Besides the newsletter, the web was also the forum for information regarding new activities planned for our company. Its true, we are planning a new product line, and its true, it will be cast resin details. We will begin with a series of seats for 1/48th and 1/32nd scale jets. We will carry on from there with a sortiment of other sets to include engines, jet exhausts, wheel wells and cockpits. I know your first thought: with such a proliferation of this type of product on the market, why would Eduard embark down that road? I do agree that there is a wide spectrum of resin manufacturers, and they produce their products like cats produce kittens, or Eduard produces brass, if you will. We feel, however, that we can bring something new to this portion of the market.

First and foremost, we feel we have the advantage of being able to combine our color photoetched brass with poured resin, and whatever component is better done in color brass will be color brass, and what is better off as a resin part, will be resin. Perhaps it sounds a bit like a no-brainer, but we are convinced that it is not that cut n’ dry. Another aspect of what our plan is, is to make our masters off of original computer generated models as opposed to hand-made ones, which, make no mistake, tend to be of a high caliber in their own right. We have been going the computer generated route for quite some time now, and we believe this is also the road to take here. For the development of our first sets, we have gone as far as our computer software will allow, and we are quite pleased with the results. It should be noted that there were some rough waters insofar as translating soft and delicate details into a finished product were concerned, and this has caused a delay in the realization of the final product with respect to our original plan. But the finished product looks more than appealing. And so, now you’re asking ‘when?’. The same answer applies as for the canopy. In the fall, at E-day, in Prague, we should be able to show off our first offerings, and its even possible we may have some samples in Columbus. Actual availability will be before Christmas, when we will have enough of a line to release. KITS FOR JULY We didn’t originally want to do the Bf 110G, as we thought that the Monogram kit was quite good. After the initial reaction to our early -110s, we changed our minds, and decided on a continuation of the line. The Bf 110F and G are quite different from the earlier C, D and E versions, and has led to a wide range of changes in our model. Just the new parts have taken up seven sets of sprues, and far from all of them are for the G-2. For example, one complete sprue contains the radar antennae and exhaust shrouds reserved for the G-4, as does a new fuselage and nose with a pair of 30 mm cannon. In any case, those that have criticized us for the complexity of the kit can feel free to continue! I am not sure that these critiques should stop with us. Perhaps, it may be warranted to take those back all the way to Professor Messerschmitt himself. As far as camouflage patterns are concerned, aircraft in the G-2 and G-4 models were not as prolific in their emblems as their older stablemates. On the other hand, though, they were more interesting in equipment and armament combinations, which with our G-2 manifests itself in underslung armament, that besides rockets, includes two types of cannon trays for under the fuselage.

Besides the G-2, we will also be releasing two Weekend Edition kits in July, the Fokker D.VII/E.V and the F6F-5 Hellcat.

August – Fw 190A Nachtjäger Night fighting Focke-Wulfs will be released as a Limited Edition boxing, as the first Limited Edition kit based on the successful line of models. There will be a run of only 1500 kits, and it will likely be one of those Eduard kits that are in stock for only a month or so, if not weeks.

In August, we will also be re-releasing the 1/72nd scale SPAD XIII in the ProfiPACK line, and a Weekend edition Bristol F.2B Fighter. August will also see the availability of underslung ordinance for the 1/32nd scale Bf 109E.

September – Bf 110G-4 For the G-4, we are preparing an unreal set of armament and equipment. Five types of antennae, Schrage Musik, different noses, under-fuselage cannon trays, exhaust variations……you’ve got something to look forward to.

September will also see a return to production of the Bf 108B. As a ProfiPACK kit, it will include new markings and innovative photoetched brass parts.

October – BAC Lightning Mk.1/Mk.2A If Bf 110G-2 rapid sales are anticipated, they are a virtual certainty with the Lightnings. These will also be released with 1500 kits produced, and will include a resin seat from our aforementioned resin line. The Lightning is our main October project, but will be sold in conjunction with two ProfiPACK releases, the 1/48th scale Albatros D.V and the 1/72nd scale L-39 Albatros.

July – Photoetched July sees the release of a record number of ZOOM sets in three scales. 1/35th sees the continuation of the M-1134 ATGM in the Stryker family, which is beginning to look to me like an unlimited line of potential for not only base sets, but also BIG EDs. In 1/48th scale, besides more sets for Hasegawa’s Airacobra (Mk.I), you can look forward to stuff for the new Pete from the same manufacturer. Incidentally, the PE for the F1M Pete was the most anticipated sets in June.

Revell has released the torpedo boat ‘Fletcher’ in 1/144th scale, which was a release we could not miss. We released three sets for this kit, available now. Among the usual four BIG EDs released this month, the really ‘big’ one will likely be the pack for the C-47, although the other three will not likely pale in comparison.

September is coming up fast, and with it, E-day. The coinciding kit will be the Fokker E.III this year, and we will also have a multitude of new information to divulge.
