PRINCE CHARLES AND THE GENIE Prince Charles was reversing his Land Rover out of the garage when he ran over the Queen's favorite corgi. He got out and found the corgi dead, squashed to a pulp. Just then a Genie popped up and said "Your highness I can give you one wish. What would you like?" The Prince said "This is mummy's favour-ite dog. Can you bring it back to life?". So the Genie said "Let's have a look at the dog." "Oh no, nothing can be done with this dog, you ran over it with the Land Rover there is too much damage to the dog ... nothing can be done". "But you must," says the Prince, "It's mummy's favourite!". "I'm sorry" said the Genie, "there's no way I can bring it back to life". "OK" said the prince, "But do I still have a wish?". "Yes", said the Genie. "Well", said the Prince, "I'm married to Camilla now you know, so can you make her as beauti-ful as Diana was?". The Genie thought for a while then said "Let's have another look at the dog".

HOW WRONG CAN YOU BE? A man enters his favourite ritzy restaurant, and while sitting at his regular table, he notices a

gorgeous woman sitting at a table nearby all alone. He calls the waiter over and asks for their most expensive bottle of Merlot to be sent over to her, knowing that if she accepts it, she is his for the night. The waiter gets the bottle and quickly sends it over to the woman saying this is from the gentleman at a nearby table. She looks at the man, then at the wine and decides to send a note over to the man. The note read:

For me to accept this bottle, you need to have a Mercedes in your garage, a million dollars in the bank, and 9 inches in your pants

The man, after reading this note, sends another note to her. It read: "Just so you know, I happen to have a Ferrari Testarosa, a BMW 850iL, and a Mercedes 560SEL in my garage; plus I have over twenty-million dollars in the bank. But, not even for a woman as beautiful as you, would I cut three inches off my dick, - just send the wine back."

Dear Readers, Last year I was unlucky enough to have tendonitis in both knees – very painful, until I discovered Marie Car-men at the Physio centre in Ontinyent. It took just 3 treatments of electro therapy and leg massage and now thank goodness my legs are back to normal, after think-ing I would never walk again. I cannot praise her enough. If you have aches and pains anywhere, I would advise you to go too. Sheila McPhearson, La Villa Ontinyent.

SPANISH RECIPES

By Angela FIDEUA For fiestas and special occasions. Fideua is a very popular dish. It’s like a seafood paella except you use a pasta called fideos instead of rice. l have enjoyed this with many Spanish people, but I am often disappointed with it in restaurants, as you never seem to get many prawns in it and it’s usually expensive. For the visual effect you will always have 1 Rojes (red prawn ) on top, l personally cannot define any difference in the flavour to the normal large uncooked prawns, but they cost three times the price. You can cheap skate for friends and family and add more prawns or blow the expense for authenticity. It is important to make your own fish stock. Use the mixed little fish you see on the fish counter called morralla. Use this stock for any fish soup, seafood paella or as a base for fish recipes. Ingredients 6 people 1 cup of olive oil 1 onion chopped 2 cloves garlic chopped 2 large tomatoes chopped or 1 tin chopped tomatoes 11/2 litres fish stock 500 g packet of fideos ( you will find on pasta counter) 6 Rojos (red prawns) 12 Langoustines ( Cigalas) 1 kilo large gambas (uncooked prawns) 1/2 kilo trozos de emperador (pieces of sword fish) 1 medium sepia (cuttlefish) chopped up in small pieces ( for those who don’t want to go there, ugh! Try that square slab of white sepia next to it on the fish counter, its much easier to chop up and much more sensi-tive to our delicate visual senses) 1/4 kilo of baby crabs (necora) don’t bother to try and get anything out of them they are just to impart flavour. METHOD Put oil in your Paella pan on medium heat and sauté onions add lan-goustines and toss them around for 5 minutes. Add sepia, sword fish and garlic and continue to move around for 5 minutes. Next add your prawns and red prawns and crabs after a few minutes add tomatoes and stock. Last of all add your pasta fideos, stir around once and let it gen-tly simmer away. Ready in 12 minutes. If you think its sticking add a little more stock. Leave to stand for 5 minutes. Ready to serve -bon apetite!

Apr21-May21 Your creativity is high and you can have lots of fun as you apply this good energy to both professional and personal areas of your life. When starting a

new project, take the necessary time to familiarise yourself with the details; no one expects you to go forward until you know exactly what needs to be done. Your mind gets ahead of what you're physi-cally able to do on any given day so write down your ideas in case you forget the best of them!

May22-June21 You may not see eye to eye with people who are too prosaic in their thinking, but they will prove to be of great help to you as you begin to investigate

buying property. Whether it's land or a valuable artwork, the sensible advice you get will point you in the right direction. There's no reason to rush into anything, so follow your instincts and pace yourself accordingly. Making a new friend will be a welcome distraction in this busy week

June22-July23 You start the week driven by logic and work concerns, but you'll soon be diverted by an emotional personal request. You'll have more than your share

of problem people to deal with, but you bring a psychological approach to the situation and others will respect you for your sensible handling of the matter. Your desire to finish a project you set aside can be fulfilled once the drama is over; then you'll tackle it with your usual indefatigable spirit.

July24-Aug23 You'll be over the moon when an opportunity to travel comes your way and you realise that a domestic upset can be eased by your taking a break from

routine and relaxing in less stressful surroundings. It’s a good time for having repair work done in your home and it’s a great excuse to clear off while it's going on. Keep the lines of communication open with a friend or relative you care about; it's when you stop talking that trouble starts to percolate.

Aug24-Sept23 Giving a helping hand to older relatives is a duty and a sign that you care; by nurturing your connection with the senior members of the family you learn something about yourself. As you dedicatedly carry out all tasks that come your way, you may begin to view life as a struggle. While it's true that there's always something that needs to be done, there's no reason why you can't take time for yourself. Your own well being rests on you being able to chill out and relax.

Sept24-Oct23 Everything that's happened in the past few weeks won't matter as much when you change your thinking and take a new tack. Opportunities to change

your situation come your way and you have the good sense to check into all of them before you make a move. With so much going on it would be wise to jot down your thoughts along with all the neces-sary facts and figures. Your memory can play tricks on you so compare notes with a trusted friend.

Nov23-Dec21 People respond to your softer side and you can't help but notice that many around you are more emotional than usual. This environment of heightened sensitivity brings people to you who might otherwise not have bothered you, but it feels good to be of help. Don’t turn down an opportunity to attend a special weekend event; you can make contacts that will benefit

Dec22-Jan20You're getting a fair amount of social and professional attention, but with your usual style you take it all in your stride. Getting involved in a

creative hobby gives you satisfaction and as you express yourself through an art form you may start to think of this as more than a pastime; it could be a potential money-maker. Friends enjoy your company because you're so easy to be with and because you seem to know what to do when unex-pected things happen.

Jan21-Feb19 You could be looking at a new start in business, a career change or the possible re-location of a project you're already involved in. Begin the

process now and you'll be able to have things tied up in a month's time. There's someone you've not been paying attention to while you've been getting things organised; this person needs to hear from you and find out what you've decided. A satisfactory conclusion is possible for everyone involved if you're respectful and honest in the way you handle things.

Feb20-Mar20 Although some things aren't going quite according to plan at the moment, be patient, time has a way of working things out. If you're not up to start-

ing a big project right now, spend time researching what it will take to get the job done and cooking up ideas that will give your work a stamp of uniqueness. Don't let a few words exchanged in the heat of the moment spoil a long-standing association; the friendship itself is bigger than the differences between you

Mar21-Apr20 The chance to relax comes as a welcome change as you've been going flat out recently. Those who

rely on you won't mind you taking a back seat while you take some time for yourself; everyone knows you can't stay out of the action for too long. A resurfacing memory prompts you to get in touch with someone you've not seen or heard from for quite a while; revisiting good and bad times you've shared together helps both of you see things in a new light.

Oct24-Nov22 You need privacy and you mean to have privacy! Don't expect this to be easy as you think because there is someone who's very eager to know what

you've been up to and why you're being so secretive. A project you've been working on needs some refining before you can unveil it; keep working at it until you're satisfied. Someone you meet at the weekend tickles your fancy, you'll think their interest is romantic, but it is meant more innocently.

I HAVE SINNED A San Francisco cabby picks up a nun. She gets into the

cab and the driver won't stop staring at her in the rear view mirror. She asks him why he is staring and he replies, "I have a question to ask you, but I don't want to offend you." She answers, "My dear son, you cannot offend me. When you're as old as I am and have been a nun as long as I have, you get a chance to see and hear just about everything. I'm sure that there's nothing you could say or ask that I would find offen-sive." "Well, I've always had a fantasy to kiss a nun." She responds, "Well, let's see what we can do about that: #1 You have to promise you are single and #2 You must be Catho-lic." The cab driver is very excited and says, "Yes, I am sin-gle and I'm Catholic too!" "OK", the nun says, "Pull into the next alley" He does and the nun fulfils his fantasy with a kiss that would make a hooker blush. But when they get back on the road, the cab driver starts crying. "My dear child, said the nun, Why are you crying?" "Forgive me sister, but I have sinned. I lied, I must confess, "I'm married and I'm Jewish." The nun says, "That's OK, my name is Kevin and I'm on my way to a fancy dress party." From Steve

A PM WITH PM A man on his way home from work in London came to a dead halt in traffic and thought to himself, " this traffic

seems worse than usual. Nothing's even moving." He notices a police offi-cer walking back and forth between the lines of cars so he rolls down his window and asks, "Excuse me, Officer, what's the hold up?" The Officer replies, "The Prime Minister is so depressed that he stopped his car in the middle of the road and he's threatening to douse himself in petrol and set himself on fire. He says the country hates him and he can't quit because he hasn't a big enough pension to retire. I'm walking around taking up a col-lection for him." "Oh, really? How much have you collected so far?" "So far only about a hundred litres but I've got a lot of people still siphoning. From Mike

¿”Habla español”? article by Wilma Taggart So you’re considering buying property in Spain? Or you may already be here. Great! The sun shines, the prices are good and the natives are friendly. How-ever as friends ‘back home’ voice concerns about your decisions, there will be one question asked which may point little daggers towards your nicely inflated balloon – “So how’s your Spanish then?” “No problemo”, you jest. “We’ll pick it up when we get there. No time for lessons now but once we’ve settled in, we’ll probably look for classes or something. Maybe do a couple of hours a week, get some tapes, and buy a phrase book. It’ll be easier when we’re actually living there.” - Heard it or even said it? Well you’re not alone in having those expectations of learning a foreign language. But oh how we change our minds when reality hits us. Arrgghhhhh! Not that easy, is it? So how do you prepare for learning this strange sounding babble they speak here? And why should you even attempt it in the first place? Well here are some reasons and I’m sure you can think of some more: It WILL add value to your life here whether permanent or short term. It WILL give an amazing sense of fulfilment and satisfaction when you can make conversation in Spanish. It WILL impress family and friends when they visit. “Wow, listen to you, chat-ting like a native!” It WILL help you gain valuable insights into the fascinating culture here. And it WILL help with a smoother integration in your new country. And if you like statistics… around the globe, more people speak Mandarin Chinese -- 885 million -- than any other language. Spanish is second, the first language of 332 million. About 322 million worldwide speak English as a first language. Hard to ignore, eh? …And for Heaven’s sake… why shouldn’t we make every effort to under-stand and be understood!? ¡Vale la pena! (It’s worth the trouble!) OK – con-vinced? Well here are some tips to help you; If possible take classes before you arrive. If time and budget allow for an intensive course in Spain then go for that. It will help give you the basics to kick start you. Do try a variety of learning approaches, as everyone has their own best way to absorb information. For example, regular group classes; one-to-one tuition; do the homework and then do MORE – after all it’s all for your own benefit; practise with the language tapes; listen to Spanish radio; watch Spanish TV; read information on food packaging, adverts, posters, leaflets, etc; read magazines and newspapers – you’ll be surprised at how many familiar words jump out at you and how you can get the gist quite eas-ily. Carry a notebook and pen everywhere and use them to jot down new

CAR CLINIC Hello All, Now that we have experienced a couple of sunny days so far this year and hopefully in the not too distant future a lot more, have you thought about your air conditioning? There is nothing worse than when you set of on a long or even short jour-ney and switch on your A/C and BLAFF it does not work. Air conditioning like every other component on your car should be serviced. A service should consist of a system pressure test, a leak test and if necessary, evacuating the system, including all the moisture that accumulates in the various parts of the system and if required, re-gassing which should include a leak check dye and oil for the compressor. If, after a pressure test or leak test a fault is found this should be rectified before new gas is put in the system. If you have an older car with the now unavailable R12 gas {which contained damaging CFCs} there are now vari-ous options available to you. You now don’t have to replace the complete system. It is also recommended that you turn it on in the winter months every couple of days to stop it from lying unused for any length of time.

The majority of problems associated with A/C are due to lack of servicing and the dryer condenser which is at the front of the vehicle and is prone to damage.

As always continue reading INLAND TRADER and if you have any car queries please contact us at CAR CLINIC on 966500982.

words and expressions. Have a small dictionary with you too and a more com-prehensive one at home. Eavesdrop on conversations in bars, shops and street. Aim to ‘think’ in Spanish, even if it’s just a few words at first. Imagine potential conversations and plan out how to say them in advance. Make Span-ish friends. How? Get involved with local events, show enthusiasm for the culture, and be interested in them and their lives. Perhaps there’s a neighbour willing to spend some time chatting to you or someone wishing to exchange Spanish/English. Come along to the Friday night Intercambio/language ex-change group*. Just do it! When choosing a teacher, look for someone with recommendations and qualifications in teaching foreigners this language. A good teacher should be prepared and use a variety of teaching methods (written/oral exercises, tapes, videos, discussion, games, etc). He/she should ensure everyone gets involved and provides a relaxed, fun atmosphere which is conducive to learn-ing. However at the end of the day, the responsibility for improvement lies with the learner. If all of this seems like a lot of work – then you’re right – it does take com-mitment. However if we keep in mind the benefits and focus on the pleasure to be had from an “Ahhhhh I understand” moment then the learning should be exciting! Give yourself a pat on the back for the progress you have made too. And if we think learning Spanish is tough (!), ponder on these… bough, dough, through, sew, cough, draught, draft, ruff, rough…and the list goes on! If you’re getting frustrated and just about to give up, think of the poor foreigners getting to grips with English phrasal verbs e.g. to bring… up/down/in/out/ around/to/with/. Now surely Spanish can’t be THAT difficult, eh? And finally a few true funnies – an English lady was proudly telling a group of Spanish friends that she ‘always gave birth at pedestrian crossings.’ (a slight mix up with the Spanish verbs parir (to give birth) and parar (to stop). My Span-ish friend informed me last week that they were giving children rides on mon-keys at Oliva’s recent medieval market. Pardon!? Only one letter out there…she meant to say ‘donkeys’. And another Spanish friend, just back from a trip to my city of Glasgow, was telling me about the strange responses she re-ceived in the bars to her request for a light for her ciggies. She couldn’t remem-ber the word for light, so slipped in the Valenciano word ‘foc’. Think about that one….Wilma Taggart Oliva Orange Apartments (short or long term rent) www.olivaorange.com *Intercambio Group, for conversation practice every Friday from 8pm, Bar Gran Via, El Paseo, Oliva. The Number 11 (Weird!) ELEVEN (11) has become to be a very interest-ing number. It could be a forced coincidence, but in any case this is interesting. You decide for yourself: 1) New York City has 11 letters. 2) Afghanistan has 11 letters. 3) Ramsin Yuseb has 11 letters. (The terrorist who threatened the Twin Towers in 1993) 4) George W. Bush has 11 letters. This could be a mere coincidence ? Now here is what is interesting... 1) New York is the State #11. 2) The first plane crushing against the Twin Towers was flight #11. 3) Flight #11 was carrying 92 passengers. Adding this number gives us: 9+2=11. 4) Flight #77 who also hit the towers, was carry-ing 65 passengers. Adding this: 6+5=11. 5) The tragedy was on September 11, or 9/11. Adding this: 9+1+1=11 6) The date is equal to the emergency number 911. Adding this: 9+1+1=11 Now we have a very upsetting piece... 1) The total number of victims inside the planes are 254. 2+5+4=11 2) The day September 11 is day number 254 of the calendar year. 2+5+4=11 After September 11, there are 111 days more to the end of the year. 4) The tragedy of 3/11/2004 in Madrid also adds to: 3+1+1+2+4=11. 5) The tragedy in Madrid happened 911 days after the tragedy of the Twin Towers. Spooky!!! Read on...! This is really ee-rie... This is something to think about! Since America is typically represented by an Eagle. Saddam and Bin Laden should have read up on their Muslim passages… The following verse is from the Quran, (the Islamic Bible). Quran (9:11) -- For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah and lo, while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced; for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah; and there was peace. Note the verse number!!!!! From Thomas P

SU DOKU ? ‘What’s Su Doku’,,, was my first comment when I recently heard about it. For those of you who like me have never heard of it before here is the low down ,,so to speak. Su doku began its gentle attack on the nation last year, and versions can now be found in four national newspapers. Addicts are as ob-sessed as 1980s teenagers fixated on the Rubik's cube. It is a puzzle found in newspapers, books and online. A simple-looking grid of nine rows by nine, split into nine boxes, each containing nine squares, it looks like just another numbers game. But, say Su Doku experts, the difference is it can be played using logic alone, so maths phobics read on. To be pure Su Doku each of the unique puzzles - which come in varying levels of difficulty - must have only one solution. The aim? To fill in the grid so that every row, every col-umn, and every box contains the digits one to nine.

The man behind the website - who is credited with bringing the game to the UK - is Wayne Gould, a retired judge from New Zealand who lives in Hong Kong.

WHAT'S IN A NAME? Su means number in Japanese Doku translates as singular or solitary, or can mean bachelor. Ok so here is the first of many Su doku puzzles for you to complete, this one is graded as easy. Good luck and enjoy?

Fill in the grid so that every row, every column, and every 3x3 box contains the digits 1 through to 9. " That's all there is to it. There's no math in-volved. The grid has numbers, but nothing has to add up to anything else. You solve the puzzle with reasoning and logic. It's fun. It's challenging. It's addictive! Solving time is typically from 10 to 30 min-utes, depending on your skill and experience. www.sudoku.com
