ety. More specifically, an
empowerment forum –
such as a Self Help Group
or a women’s group – can
invest in a sanitary napkin
-making unit to create a
business that employs up
to ten women. The new
invention is capable of
making 120 napkins per
hour.
The Jayaashree Industries
model helps offer liveli-
hood, hygiene, dignity
and empowerment to
underprivileged women
all over the world. And it
does so using a sustain-
able business framework.
A school dropout from a
poor family in Coimbatore
has revolutionised men-
strual health for rural
women in developing
countries by inventing a
simple machine they can
use to make cheap sani-
tary pads.
Arunachalam Muruganan-
tham's invention came at
great personal cost - he
nearly lost his family, his
money and his place in
society. But he kept his
sense of humour.
Arunachalam Muruganan-
tham of Jayaashree Indus-
tries designed, created,
tested and implemented
a sanitary napkin-making
machine that operates on
a small scale.
Contrary to a large-scale
production model which
requires Rs.3.5 Crores as
initial investment,
Jayaashree Industries
sanitary napkin-making
machine can be made
available to a buyer for
approximately Rs.65,000.
This allows smaller play-
ers to adopt the business
model propagated by
him, and thus generates
more employment and
wealth in the most ane-
glected sections of soci-

One of the major objectives of the project “BaLiKa” is to expose the children to various career options. In line with
the objective, we had a session with 3 RJs from “Suriyan FM” and shared their work experiences. Team Skill Building
of Yi Coimbatore also organized a Learning visit to ABT Foods Ltd, Pollachi as it would be a great learning to the chil-
dren and also expose them to a wide range of career options.
The session started with the HR Manager of the company explaining the children on the manufacturing process
right from milk procurement to sales and the various levels of management in the factory. After the presentation,
the children were taken around the factory explaining them how the procured raw milk is processed for various
products. The children were very much impressed to see the level of automation in Milk processing. They were also
very keen on understanding how the products are sealed and packaged in a hygienic way. The children raised a lot
of questions about each and every section of the plant which showed their enthusiasm and also motivated the staffs

interesting with the legend talking about the hurdles he faced in making KMCH from just a 20 bedded hospital to
what it is today. He also shared his views on the current Youths of India - the so called pillars of the future. He also
advised the youth community to act & behave honorably in our life and become a role model to all the other coun-
