International Conference on Innovations in Clinical Psychology Hosted by the School of Psychology UCD This international conference will be of interest to all clinical psychologists practicing in the areas of community care, primary care, child mental health, adult mental health, and the psychology of intellectual disability. It will also be of interest to all psychologists involved in the supervision of clinical psychologists in training. It will provide an opportunity to catch up with recent developments within the field, to find out about the direction that clinical psychology in Ireland will be taking in the future, and to network with colleagues from your area of interest. The conference will also be of interest to HSE managers and colleagues from other disciplines who wish to acquaint themselves with the direction clinical psychology is currently taking in Ireland and abroad, and what the future holds for clinical psychology in Ireland. In recent years there have been numerous innovations in clinical psychology. The handbooks of clinical psychology produced by the UCD editorial team integrate these innovations into a 3 volume set which cover the entire curriculum for training clinical psychologists to work in the Irish Health service. The volumes are: Handbook of Child and Adolescent Clinical Psychology by Alan Carr Handbook of Adult Clinical Psychology edited by Alan Carr & Muireann McNulty Handbook of Clinical Psychology and Intellectual Disability edited by Alan Carr, Gary O’Reilly, Patricia Noonan Walsh & John McEvoy The Innovations In Clinical Psychology Conference marks the launch of these three volumes. Keynote addresses will be given by three international experts who have made innovative contributions to the development of clinical psychology. Professor Paul Stallard from the University of Bath will speak about CBT with young people. His presentation will be of interest to professionals who work with children and adolescents with mental health problems, and to colleagues who wish to find out about recent developments in CBT for young people. Professor Eric Emerson from the Universities of Lancaster and Sydney will speak about clinical psychology and intellectual disability. His presentation will be of interest to professionals who work with people with intellectual disabilities, and to colleagues who wish to find out about recent developments in clinical psychology practice in the field of intellectual disabilities. Professor Elizabeth Kuipers from Kings College London will present on CBT and family therapy for adults with psychosis. Her presentation will be of interest to professionals who work in adult mental health and who have an interest in CBT, family therapy and their application with challenging and complex cases. In addition we will have an eminent keynote speaker from the HSE, Martin Rogan, who will discuss future changes in Irish mental health services. Martin Rogan, HSE National Care Group Manger for Mental Health Services, will give a special address on ‘The place of clinical psychology in Irish mental health services in the future: A vision for change’. His presentation will be of interest to clinical psychologists and managers and professionals who work with them within the HSE, and who want to get a glimpse of what clinical psychology in Ireland will look like in the future. Once through the main Gates follow the directions for Car Park 2 (The O’Reilly Hall Car Park). By bus - Dublin Bus numbers, 10, 3 and 11B provide a direct services to the Belfield Campus; these buses may be boarded in the city centre at O’Connell Street. For timetable information and a greater range of bus choices you may go to Dublin Bus web site. By train - Dublin is served by two main railway stations: Connolly Station is a few minutes walk from O’Connell Street, while Heuston Station has a Luas connection to Connolly Station and the city centre. By plane - Dublin is served by one airport. There are shuttle bus services which bring passengers directly to the Central Bus Station, however an Aircoach operates a service which passes UCD to and from Dublin Airport. Further details are available on their website. By taxi - There are usually an adequate number of taxi ranks in operation outside the bus and train stations as well as in the city centre, outside Wynn’s Hotel on Middle Abbey Street and opposite the Bank of Ireland on Dame Street. Taxi’s may also be hailed on the street. The fare to UCD is approx. 10-12 euro. Contributors• Professor Paul Stallard holds a chair in child and family mental health at the University of Bath

and is Head of the Child and Adolescent Psychology Service for Avon and Wiltshire Mental HealthCare Partnership Trust. His research focuses on child and adolescent mental health. He is author ofthe acclaimed book, Think Good Feel Good: A Cognitive Behaviour Workbook for Children andYoung People.

• Professor Eric Emerson works at the Institute for Health Research at the Lancaster University andthe University of Sydney. His research programme is in the area of intellectual disabilities. He isauthor of Challenging Behaviour: Analysis and Intervention in People with Severe IntellectualDisabilities.

• Professor Elizabeth Kuipers is Head of the Department of Psychology, Kings College London,Institute of Psychiatry. She has conducted a number of controlled trials of family and CBTinterventions for people with psychosis. She is author of Family Work for Schizophrenia: A PracticalGuide and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Psychosis: Theory and Practice.

• Martin Rogan is National Care Group Manger for Mental Health Services in the HSE. He has adistinguished career in Irish health service management.

• Gerard Perry is Director of Clinical Psychology Services in the HSE Eastern Region. He has adistinguished career in clinical psychology services in Ireland.

• Dr Gary O’Reilly is Senior Lecturer and Deputy Director of the Doctoral Programme in ClinicalPsychology at UCD, where he directs an extensive programme of research on child and adolescentmental health. He is also principal clinical psychologist at the Children’s University HospitalTemple Street. He is a member of the editorial team for the ‘Handbook Project’.

• Professor Patricia Noonan Walsh is Director of the Centre for Disability Studies at UCD, where shedirects an extensive international research programme on intellectual disabilities. She is a memberof the editorial team for the ‘Handbook Project’.

• Dr Muireann McNulty is Adjunct Lecturer and Clinical Co-ordinator of the Doctoral Programme inClinical Psychology at UCD, and Senior Clinical Psychologist at St John of God Services, where herpractice focuses on psychosis. She is a member of the editorial team for the ‘Handbook Project’.

• Dr Barbara Dooley is Senior Lecturer and Head of the School of Psychology at UCD where shedirects an extensive programme of research on child, adolescent and adult mental health, with aparticular focus on eating disorders, psychosis, adjustment to cancer, and service development foryoung people.

• Professor Alan Carr, is Director of the Doctoral Programme in Clinical Psychology at UCD and chairof the ‘Handbook Project’ editorial team. He has a clinical practice at the Clanwilliam Institute inDublin.
