The consistent challenges of Food security and mitigating malnutrition compelfor enhanced crop production. Indian Agriculture has made good progress in
production of various crops including vegetables and fruits that are also beingexported. There has been tremendous enrichment of knowledge and technologyin disease diagnostics, epidemiology and forecasting, host pathogen interaction, microbial diversity and biopesticides, IDM etc. Yet, plant diseases continue to beamongst the major constraints to crop health and food quality afflicting theagricultural growth and trade. These reinforce the need of innovative approaches
in plant disease research, dissemination of knowledge and exchange of ideas andinformation among the researchers for their future quest in disease management.
The Indian Society of Mycology and Plant Pathology (ISMPP) is a premierSociety devoted to disseminate the scientific advancements in plant disease researchthrough its official organ Journal of Mycology and Plant Pathology, Review ofPlant Pathology and ISMPP News. The society annually organizes the conferences
and symposia for facilitating interaction amongst researchers and faster exchangeand dissemination of the advances in plant disease research. It is with the sameobjective that the 35th Annual Conference and symposium on“Innovative and
Ecofriendly Approaches for Plant Disease Management” is being organizedduring January 8-10, 2014 at Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola,
This year is also the Birth Centenary year of Professor N Prasad, theFounder member of ISMP P, and the symposium will be an appropriate forum topay homage to this leading personality who was instrumental in establishing theISMPP and nurturing it in its initial stage.
