Th e Dinosaur Valley Heritage Society is mov-ing forward with a bold new plan to revitalize the aging East Coulee School Museum. Recently, the Heritage Society contracted Paul Conrad & Associates Ltd. to create a new business plan for the School Mu-seum, with the goal for re-mediation and redevelop-ment. “We’re doing a top down engineering review of the School Museum, strate-gic business plan, and a scan of the market to see where we fi t into the local tourism sector,” said Brent Noland, president of the Dinosaur Valley Heritage Society. “Instead of react-ing to each new emer-gency, we decided to step back and set ourselves up strategically for the next 20 years.” To help the process, the Heritage Society is asking stakeholders to participate in the study. “Our board of directors wants our stakeholders and partners to be aware the fi rst step will be con-ducting interviews and surveys with organizations involved with the museum and its programs,” said No-land. “We encourage them to take some time to have their views known and to be a part of the process.” Th e resulting business plan aims to gain feedback

from stakeholders regard-ing priorities, learn about the current use of the building and assess future program needs, analyze the market of the museum, conduct a site and building review, develop a capital-ization strategy, and devel-op a process to implement the plan. Funding for the study was provided by Canalta. Th e decision to devel-op the business plan was made after the museum boiler broke down last winter and most of the plumbing was damaged this winter. “We had a gas back-up heater, keeping things just above freezing in the museum, but it failed just before Christmas. So, a bunch of our plumbing cracked. We looked at it and decided it wasn’t re-ally worth fi xing, so we’re doing a major plumbing upgrade, which is a must before SpringFest,” said Noland. Th e goal is to have a new

plan in place by June. “I feel we are on the verge of some very exciting times. With the challenges we face as a community, it is important we meet them head on and solicit the input of our stakehold-ers to ensure the path we choose for the museum is a clear one,” said Noland. “We are excited for the opportunity to respond to our museum’s needs.”

School Museum commissions new business plan

The East Coulee School Museum has faced a number of challenges in the past year-and-a-half, including the break down of its boiler and cracked plumbing. The Di-nosaur Valley Heritage Society is moving forward with the development of a new business plan for the museum.

Hope springs eternal when the curtain rises on Rosebud Th eatre’s 30th Anniversary Season in Rosebud. Veteran actors and fan-favourite com-pany members will take to the stage in one of the most popular comedies by America’s most produced and successful playwright. Neil Simon’s hilarious romantic comedy Bare-foot in the Park opens Friday, March 22 and sets the stage for an engaging and memorable season to come to the Rosebud Op-era House. As one of Simon’s ear-liest and most popular comedies, this light-hearted romance between a straight-laced lawyer and an impetuous free spirit begins where most romantic comedies end, bringing reality and hu-mor to the life that hap-pens after two people fall in love and get married. Artistic director Mor-ris Ertman believes it is the perfect piece to open a

landmark season celebrat-ing wonderful lives. “It’s fun. It’s funny. It’s meaningful,” Ertman said. “Barefoot in the Park is about a wonderful time in life; those early days of marriage when hope keeps love afl oat.” Ertman was inspired to bring this play to life in Rosebud after observ-ing older couples walking hand in hand through the quiet streets of the ham-let. “Couples will be taken back to their newlywed days, either good or bad, and enjoy reminiscing

about how far they’ve come together,” he said. “Barefoot in the Park tells us that opposites do at-tract; they do fi ght. Th ey fi nd that seed of love planted deep in their hearts. Th ey make a new life together work in spite of the obstacles. Is this not the hope of everyone set-ting out on a life togeth-er?” Rosebud Th eatre veter-ans David Snider and Ma-rie Russell lead this comic collective with their in-credibly strong charac-terizations of Velasco and Ethel respectively. Th is is

Snider’s seventh season in Rosebud and previ-ous roles include Mitch in Tuesdays with Morrie, Matthew in Anne of Green Gables and Tevye in Fid-dler on the Roof. Russell is a long time fan-favourite last seen as Rachel Lynd in Anne of Green Gables. “Whether you have been married for 6 months or 60 years, you will be able to relate to this play,” says Snider. “It’s incredibly funny, and I’m sure people will see a little bit of them-selves in the characters on stage.”

Patrick Kolafa| inSide Drumheller

A dog-loving inmate has another 15 days be-hind bars to think about distracting a canine unit at the Drumheller Institu-tion. Alan Knapcyzk ap-peared in provincial court in Drumheller on Fri-day, March 8. He pleaded guilty to obstructing a peace offi cer in the execu-tion of duty. On October 30 of last year, a corrections offi cer with a sniff er dog was at the Drumheller Institu-tion. Knapczyk interfered with the investigation by distracting the dog, call-ing “here boy.” He was asked to stop, but he con-tinued to call the dog. Knapczyk was given a 15 day sentence to be served concurrently to his existing sentence.

I moved back in October.Where are you from originally? I don’t really have a home town. I was born in B.C. and lived all over it.What do you like most about Drumheller? The sense of community.Any travel destinations in mind? One of my favourites is Sedona, Arizona. What three things would you bring to a deserted island? Chocolate, books, and a kayak.Any hobbies? Reading, knitting, gardening, writing, and I volunteer quite a bit.Any favourite books? I read a broad spectrum of books, but I like the classics, history, and books where I can learn.

Any favourite movies/TV shows? I don’t even own a TV. I miss a lot of the pop-culture references people make in everyday conversation. I sometimes watch documentaries on my laptop. What’s on your playlist these days? I listen to everything. It depends on the activity as to what I’ll

listen to.What is one thing you could eat for the rest of your life? Apples. I eat them everyday. You must not have to see the doctor a lot then? No, not really.

What is your most memorable childhood toy? LEGO.What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done? I don’t think I’m known for that. I’ve done things like bungie jumping and zip lining, but I wouldn’t consider those crazy, just a lot of fun. What superpower would you want? Mind reading.Any words of wisdom? Eat your apples.

SudokuHere’s how it works: Sudoku puzzles are formatted as a 9x9 grid, broken down into nine 3x3 boxes. To solve a sudoku, the numbers 1 through 9 must fi ll each row, column and box. Each num-ber can appear only once in each row, column and box. You can fi gure out the order in which the numbers will ap-pear by using the numeric clues already provided in the boxes. The more numbers you name, the easier it gets to solve the puzzle!

Th e Drumheller Drag-ons’ foe for the second round of the AJHL play-off s was made offi cial on Tuesday night when the Okotoks Oilers beat the Olds Grizzlys in game fi ve of their series. Th e Oilers victory means they will take on the Camrose Kodiaks and the Dragons will face the number one Ju-nior A team in Canada; the Brooks Bandits. Th e Dragons head to Brooks tonight for game one and stay overnight for game two. Game three will be held Mon-day, March 18, at the Drumheller Memorial Arena at 7:30 p.m. Th e Dragons have a tough series ahead of them. In six meetings between the two teams

in the regular season, the Bandits won all six. Th e Bandits went 53-4-3 on the season, earn-ing 289 goals with only 113 against. Th ey hand-ily took fi rst place in the AJHL southern division and had a break for the fi rst round of playoff s. To be successful against the Bandits, the Drag-ons will have to control the number of penalties they receive. Th e Drag-ons’ fi rst round victory against the Eagles was aided by some remark-able penalty killing, es-pecially in several 5 on 3 situations. However, the Dragons can’t aff ord to give the Bandits those chances. To give the Dragons some added incentive to win, Mayor Terry Yemen and Brooks Mayor Mar-tin Shields have agreed to a jersey swap should

their respective team lose. “Th e gauntlet has been thrown down. Mayor Shields has agreed to wear a Dragons Jersey and make a declara-tion that Drumheller is the best town in Al-

berta when the Drum-heller Dragons defeat the Brooks Bandits in this next round of the playoff s. If, by chance, Brooks were to win, I will be required to do the same,” said Mayor Yemen.
