Natomas Park News
Dear Members,
Another year is about to come to a close and we’re looking forward to the New Year and the prospect of continuing to make the Club “the place” to come for functions, events and a comfortable place to exercise and relax.
Many homeowners have been asking about the status of the Phase 2 effort. We are in the planning stage addressing what we want to do with the Club and when we can start the expansion and improvements. Much of the schedule is based on when FEMA requirements will allow us to start construction. There has been some discussion in making the area above the existing aerobics room two stories, housing a basketball court along with upstairs office space that could accommodate management. As I have mentioned in previous postings, the key issue is parking; we will need to get a waiver from the city for parking. If the building stays one-story, we will need a waiver for approximately 30 spaces and if we go to two stories, we will need to get a waiver for approximately 100 spaces. The Ad Hoc committee will be meeting in an open session to discuss the next level of details for the Phase 2 Master Plan.
In an attempt to address the issue regarding parking at this time, a suggestion has been made to provide some kind of incentive for riding your bike to the Club. This suggestion would include tracking the number of times an individual rides their bike (maybe by punching a card) and after so many times (card hole punches), provide a reward for their achievement.
Have you considered exclusive use of our new café called “The Cove”? For the winter months (November – April), the Cove is now available for rent. The rent includes the Cove’s bar area (with a 48” TV), the patio area next to the Cove, and use of the new fire pit. The cost will be $150.00 plus bartender cost. The area handles up to 40 people and requires a deposit of $300. Contact the Club at (916) 928-6833 to make a reservation.
On December 3rd from 1:00 - 3:00 pm, the Club will be having pictures with Santa. We will be posting the pictures on our website (www.NatomasPark.com) or you can request a copy at the Club from Management. There will be candy canes for the kids and we will also be serving refreshments and punch. There is no age limit as long as Santa can hold you on his lap. If it becomes anything like what our Halloween Party was, I would suggest coming early before Santa’s HO-HO-HO becomes ho-ho-ho.
On December 10th at 7:00 pm, the Club will be hosting a Holiday Open House, for members only. There will be complimentary champagne, eggnog and hors d’oeuvres. In addition, we will have wine tasting provided by Alma De La Vina. Members will be able to purchase wine at this event.
The entire Board, Tristan, Jim, Kris, Charles and myself, would like to wish you, your family and friends a happy holiday season. Chuck Cunningham

Golf League News...
Congratulations to Art Rodriquez who won the low gross & low net championship for 2011. Details and scores for the golf league from the past year can be located on the Asso-ciation website for those interested in viewing the re-sults. This past year saw an increase in attendance from previous years. In 2012, your club will be set up with the Northern California Golf Association (NCGA) to form our own associate club. What that means is that your annual NCGA membership will be discounted as well as giving our league the ability to use the NCGA scoring and rating system for our monthly events. A golf committee is being formed to help organize and improve the current league. Some of the proposed changes for the golf league are to change the format of some of the events as well as change the venue up to allow others to experience other courses. There is also discussion for an end of the year celebration to an-nounce the winner for each category. If you haven’t already signed up for the golf league, give Bo Banks a call at the club (916) 928-6833. By registering with the club, you will receive emails to remind you of upcom-ing events and notices for the golf league in 2012. The first golf league event will be held n April.

The holidays are right around the corner! During this busy time of the year, our streets are flooded with fami-lies and friends gather-
ing together to enjoy the season’s fes-tivities. As traffic in our community increases, so does the potential for parking issues and criminal incidents. The following tips and reminders may help reduce any potential holiday stress.
As a reminder, residents of the com-munity are not allowed to park on the street at any time; guest parking can-not exceed 72 consecutive hours. If your guest will be staying more than a few days, please contact the associa-tion’s management office via phone or email so we can properly note your file.
If you have family gatherings and par-ties planned, please be courteous of your surrounding neighbors and in-form them of your event. You should also contact Paladin Security so they are aware of the event. Remember to keep noise at a reasonable level and to
obey the City Ordinance quiet hours beginning at 10:00 pm.
This time of year, vandalism and bur-glary incidents are extremely high, so we encourage you to lock your cars doors and keep valuables out of sight. Make sure your garage doors are com-pletely closed and the doors and win-dows are locked to your home. Con-tact Paladin Security and report any suspicious activity in your neighbor-hood.
Lastly, as we all appreciate holiday lights and decorations, we would like to remind you that they need to be removed in a timely manner. Hallow-een decorations should be removed no later than the first week of November. All other holiday lights and decora-tions should be removed no later than the end of the first week in January.
We wish you all a safe and happy holiday season. If you need to con-tact our office for any reason, we can be reached at (916) 925-9200, Mon-day through Friday or via email at [email protected].

Holiday Tree Care - Don’t Let Your Tree Dry Out! 1. Select the freshest tree possible. Ideally, buy one that is cut the day you bring it
home.
2. Cut 1 inch off the base, place the tree in a bucket of water, and stand it in a cool, shady place if you don't plan to set it up right away.
3. Cut 1/2 inch to 1 inch off the base of the trunk when you bring it inside to set up.
4. Place in a tree stand that holds at least 1 gallon of water. Add plain water.
5. Water the tree every day!
6. Avoid allowing the water level to drop below the cut end of the trunk. If it does, a seal will form and prevent any more water from being absorbed by the tree. You'll need to make another cut in the trunk if this occurs.
7. Keep the tree away from the fireplace, vents and other sources of heat.
8. Spray tree with an anti-transpirant, which is a clear film that slows water loss from the needles. Spray it on before trimming the tree

Message from The Club Manager by Bo Banks
As we come to the end of the year, New Year resolutions are going to be made by many of us to improve our health and to set a goal to make it to the gym
regularly. The first three months of the year we see an increase in atten-dance in the fitness center. As a reminder, please be considerate of others at all times when working out. Allow others to work in with you if you see that others may be waiting to use equipment. Do not maximize more than one piece of equipment at a time unless you are allowing others to work in with you. Re-rack your weights to help keep the fitness center clean and organ-ized at all times. We also ask that you keep your belongings (i.e. keys, bags, jackets, etc…) hung up on one of the hooks or shelves that are available for you to use, which pre-vents others from tripping on items left on the floor. Wipe down the equipment after you use each piece
of equipment to insure that the equipment is clean for the next per-son who uses it. We also ask that you refrain from using your cell phones while you are in the fitness center. Thank you so much for your understanding and cooperation with abiding by the rules of the club. The rules are in place to insure that all members have an enjoyable ex-perience while at their club.
Beginning in 2012, you will see some slight increases in the café’s prices. The Finance Committee and Board of Directors have approved this increase to help off-set the loss in the café to allow it to break even by the end of the year. As we are all aware, our pricing is very low com-pared to other commercial establish-ments and extremely low for a pri-vate club. The increases will still make our prices some of the lowest in the area and will allow us to offer higher quality products. Here is a list of the items you can expect to increase in 2012:
● Cheese Steak Sandwich from $4.00 to $5.00
● Combo Meal from $1.00 to $1.25
● Well Liquor from $3.00 to $3.50 ● Call Liquor from $4.00 to $5.50 ● Premium Liquor from $5.00 to
$6.50 ● Margarita/Daiquiri from $4.00 to
$5.00 ● Wine by the glass from $2.00 to
$3.00 ● Domestic Beer from $2.00 to
$2.50 / Happy Hour from $1.00 to $1.50
● Premium Beer from $3.00 to $4.00 / Happy Hour from $2.00 to $3.00
This past year has been a wonderful year at the club. Member atten-dance has been at an all time high and we want to thank you for your support and suggestions as we con-tinue to improve each year. The Club Staff and I would like to wish you and your family a safe and won-derful holiday season.

Holiday Shopping Safety Tips… Take Extra Precaution
Shopping during the holiday season can present unique dangers. Taking a few prevention measures can help keep your holiday season joyous. The holiday season is a time when busy people can be-come careless and vulnerable to theft and other holiday crime. The following tips from the Los Angeles Police Department Crime Preven-tion Section can help you be more careful, prepared and aware during the holiday season.
• Shop during daylight hours whenever possible. If you must shop at night, go with a friend or family member.
• Dress casually and comfortably. • Avoid wearing expensive jewelry. • Do not carry a purse or wallet, if possible. • Always carry your California Driver License or Identification Card along
with necessary cash, checks and/or a credit card you expect to use. • Even though you are rushed and thinking about a thousand things, stay alert
to your surroundings. • Avoid carrying large amounts of cash. • Pay for purchases with a check or credit card when possible. • Keep cash in your front pocket. • Notify the credit card issuer immediately if your credit card is lost, stolen or
misused. • Keep a record of all of your credit card numbers in a safe place at home. • Be extra careful if you do carry a wallet or purse. They are the prime targets
of criminals in crowded shopping areas, transportation terminals, bus stops, on buses and other rapid transit.
• Avoid overloading yourself with packages. It is important to have clear visi-bility and freedom of motion to avoid mishaps.
• Beware of strangers approaching you for any reason. At this time of year, "con-artists" may try various methods of distracting you with the intention of taking your money or belongings.

Vacant Homes in the Community and Risks they Cause Vacant homes are scattered throughout the community and anyone who doesn’t have at least one on their street probably lives on a very small court. Some may think that an empty house wouldn’t bring their neighborhood any problems, but then they’d be wrong. There are several homes throughout the community currently under the posses-sion of squatters who either unlawfully gained access to the residence, then staked claims before anyone could evict them or people who leased the home, but later discov-ered the “agent” who setup the deal was just a scam artist fraudulently listing a bank owned home. Paladin, your home owners association and the Sacramento Police know of a couple current cases, but more continue to come in. While a good number of your squatters aren’t malicious people, there have already been the nightmare cases where the individuals occupying the home aren’t just families who were scammed during a lease agreement. At least three different homes in the community over the last four years have been occupied by squatters then transformed into “pot houses” where sus-pects used the existing electricity “or brought in their own generators” to setup hydro-ponics to establish a type of green house where they could grow marijuana in an other-wise safe neighborhood away from their competitors and out of the normal areas moni-tored more aggressively by law enforcement.
In every incident of squatting whether it involves fraudulent lease agreements or drug dealers, Paladin, the Sacramento Police and your home owners association have worked vigilantly to quickly address the issue, but red tape can often tie up the process. Many of these bank owned homes quickly change hands and locating the real owner can take days at best. Without an owner these incidents often go unpunished as there is no victim to press charges. Many times once the real owner is found a road block is hit as the bank doesn’t want to or simply refuses to press charges as no individual at the bank is willing to accept the liability or their company policies prohibit them from taking the initiative needed to pursue charges.
What can be done? • Keep an eye on the vacant homes on your street. If you see ANY activity, call Pala-
din immediately. Often these scam artists will look like Realtors, but will first break into the homes and change the locks (sometimes acting as contractors or landsca-pers) before showing the house. If we can contact the subjects before they establish the house as easy pickings, we can usually scare them off as they realize the house isn’t as easy as they thought, because they learn people are watching. At the very least we can identify who is taking an interest in the home and whether or not they have legitimate business at the residence.
• If you know your neighbors and know they are moving out, ask if they can leave the exterior porch lights on around the house when they leave. The extra lighting will help keep away juveniles who try to use the homes as party houses as well as others who try to access the homes at night.
• Paladin Officers regularly conduct inspections of vacant homes throughout the community. We will check the doors and windows, clean off excessive fliers built up around the front porch and follow up on any signs of suspicious activity. How-ever we don’t always know which homes are completely vacant or just poorly maintained. If you know of vacant homes on your street or in your area, please send me an email at [email protected] and let me know. I will en-sure our Officers begin making inspections to help deter future issues.
Stolen Vehicle Recovered Paladin Officers responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle parked off Macon Way. Upon responding Paladin Officers discovered the reported vehicle was unoccupied, unlocked, missing its stereo and had other items from its interior removed. Officers re-trieved the vehicles registration from the glove box and discovered it was registered out of the Bay Area. Officers immediately contacted the Sacramento Police who confirmed the vehicle had been recently stolen. Due to the possibility of suspect(s) returning to the vehicle, a Paladin Officer monitored the vehicle until the Sacramento Police could re-spond and recover the vehicle. The vehicle was successfully recovered.
