Create and edit in a flashAussie School Fonts Plus allows you to edit your creations instantaneously. It seems incredible but when using the Cursive and Speed Loop fonts, the forms of the letters and joins adjust in front of your eyes as you edit your work. You can delete or add letters to work, copy and paste, spell check and even apply outline, guideline or arrowed variants of the font. It is truly incredible!

How to use Aussie School Fonts PlusTo use Aussie School Fonts Plus you just install the set of fonts relevant to your state on your Apple or Windows computer, open your favourite word processor, including Microsoft Word and Apple Pages, select the font variant you want to use and start typing.

The Print and PreCursive fonts are beautifully formed giving reliable, accurate guidance, example and practice for all the letters.

With the Cursive and Speed Loop fonts the magic happens live on screen with each keystroke! Our SmartLink™ Logic invisibly takes care of the complex matters of selecting the forms of the letters and joins live and on the fly using a library of up to 4,000 logical rules and the hundreds of glyphs (characters)! The result is perfect handwriting that accords with the latest style guides issued by the Department of Education in your State!

Apple and Windows Installation InstructionsAussie School Fonts Plus is not a website or a web delivered application. It is software designed to be installed on your Apple or Windows computer.

Aussie School Fonts Plus will not work on iPad or Android tablet.

In order to use Aussie School Fonts Plus, you must first install it onto your computer. It is not a website nor an installable application. It is a set of fonts that are installed into your computer’s font folders.

Windows installation1. Download the Aussie School Fonts Plus installer from the link

provided in the email you received after purchase.A. Search for the Aussie School Fonts Plus .exe file in your

downloads folder, unless you have set the download to go elsewhere.

B. Aussie School Fonts Plus may have been provided to your on a disk or by other means. If so locate the file there and proceed as follows.

2. Right click on the .exe file and select “Extract here” from the drop down menu. If this is not there and you can see 7zip, hover over that and then select “Extract here” from the extended menu.

3. (If you do not have extraction software installed, you can easily download and install one from the web, such as winRAR)

4. Search for a file called installerlauncher from the same folder (e.g. downloads).

5. Double click on installerlauncher to start the Aussie School Fonts Plus installation wizard.

6. Follow the prompts to install the fonts onto your device.7. After Aussie School Fonts Plus has been installed, you can access

the fonts from the font menu inside the word processor of your choice.

8. After installation the Installation and User Guide, Wall Charts and the Slope Cards can be accessed from the EdAlive folder located in the Windows Start menu.

Network Deployment / InstallationAussie School Fonts Plus supports network deployment of the fonts for both Windows and Apple. This can be used to ease the workload of school network administrators wishing to deploy Aussie School Fonts Plus to multiple computers on their network. Please note that you must not install Aussie School Fonts Plus onto more computers than your licence allows.

Windows network installationTo install to multiple networked Windows computers, use the MSI (Microsoft Installer package) along with Group Policy.

MacOS network installationTo install to multiple networked Apple computers, use the PKG (Apple installer package) with Apple Remote Desktop.

Using Aussie School Fonts Plus with Microsoft WordThe Smart Link™ Logic used by the Aussie School Fonts Plus Cursive and Speed Loop fonts harnesses the power of ligatures. With Microsoft Word documents ligatures are disabled by default. It is therefore necessary to enable them when using the Cursive and Speed Loop fonts.

Enabling Ligatures: Microsoft Word for WindowsMicrosoft Word

1. Launch your copy of Word.2. Open the Font dialogue box by pressing ‘Ctrl+D’.3. Click on the Advanced tab.4. Set the menu next to Ligatures to “All”.5. Under OpenType Features (above the preview at the bottom),

check the box “Use contextual alternatives”.6. Click “Set As Default”, check the box “All documents based on the

Normal.dotm template?” then click OK.7. Select the required Aussie School Fonts Plus font from your Font

menu and start typing.

Enabling Ligatures: Microsoft Word for AppleMicrosoft Word

TroubleshootingProblems with older versions of Microsoft WordAussie School Fonts Plus is divided into font families which are usually accessed via the font menu in the software being used. Some older versions of Microsoft Word and/or other applications, have a basic font menu that only allows the selection of the font family and the application of Bold and Italic or a combination of the two.

Follow the steps below to access Aussie School Fonts Plus in an application using basic font menus as described above:

1. Select the font you wish to use. By default the Regular version of the font will be selected.

2. To make the font Bold click on the “Bold” option3. To make the font Dashed click on the “Italic” option4. To make the font Outlined click on both the “Bold” and “Italic” options

Please note that some fonts do not contain bold or outline versions. Please check the relevant section of this manual for a full list of fonts available for your state or territory.

Mac OS GatekeeperWith Apple’s Operating systems since Catalina (10.15) Apple introduced software called Gatekeeper which affects the use of any software not purchased from the Apple App Store. To get around this change follow these steps:

1. Go to Finder to click on the Package file for the EdAlive Software you wish to install.

2. Hold Control and click on the Package file.3. A pop-up will appear asking if you would like to open the App. Click

Open to start the installation process and make the EdAlive software an exclusion to the rules set up by Gatekeeper

The Utility FontAussie School Fonts Plus contains a Utility font for creating worksheets.

The Utility font for your state will be under the state name in the font list, called “(State) EdAlive Utility”. Please note: In some circumstance the name of the Utility font may appear in the font list as a series of slashes and horizontal lines.

The Utility font uses keys on a standard keyboard and allows you to create worksheets with various styles of guidelines, slope lines, and guideline naming aids.

To access the Utility Font characters select the your state’s Utility font from the font menu of the software you are using and then press the appropriate key as indicated in the tables below. Please note that the keys as denoted are case sensitive.

Aussie School Fonts Plus in the ClassroomAussie School Fonts Plus gives teachers the vital tools they need to impart the essential skill of handwriting to children of all ages. Each font has been meticulously designed to represent the relevant state guide. Starting with Print characters and moving to PreCursive and then to Cursive all the tools are there to make teaching so much easier. Once the foundation is formed, the Speed Loop version of the fonts will encourage the development of fluency and speed. Our SmartLink™ Logic built right the Cursive and Speed Loop fonts allows you to create and edit your text live and on the fly with perfect joins every time.

Handwriting and the National CurriculumThe National Curriculum requires that students commence learning to write by producing upper and lower case letters and progress through the years to write fluently and legibly with developing automaticity (see below for the relevant ACARA Content Descriptors). This is accomplished at a state and territory level by each of the education authorities prescribing the style of handwriting to be taught in their schools.

Aṉangu and Yolŋu To represent the full range of sounds in their languages, speakers of Pitjantjatjara in Central Australia and numerous Aṉangu and Yolŋu languages in Arnhem Land use writing systems which include characters not usually found in the standard English alphabet. In EdAlive’s “Aṉangu and Yolŋu” handwriting fonts, these additional characters have been incorporated to accurately portray the Aṉangu and Yolŋu spoken languages. The fonts follow the style guide of the Western Australian and Northern Territory Modern Cursive as defined by the respective Departments of Education.

The full font set contains 30 fonts which can be used for the teaching of handwriting in the native Aṉangu and Yolŋu languages. Custom guidelines, slope lines, and line markers can be created when using the included “Utility” font. A standard font (non-handwriting) with the additional characters is also included for normal day-to-day use.

How it Works The Aṉangu and Yolŋu fonts are designed to work without the need for additional hardware or custom keyboards. However, they may also be used with the “Yolngu-J” keyboard available from AUSIL*. We have utilised SmartLink™ logic to automatically insert the Aṉangu and Yolŋu characters when key combinations are typed on a standard keyboard.
