4. SetupThe following paragraphs provide all of the information that is needed to set up the Touch Screen Controller for theuser. The Home Page can be set up to have your “Favorite Satellites” preset buttons to simplify normal useroperation. Set Up also includes some hardware configuration settings which must accurately reflect the specificantenna hardware that is currently installed.

4.1. Satellite - Selection MenuThis page shows all the viewable satellites in your geographic location, not just your “Favorite Satellites”. Youcan target one of the satellites in the scroll list (these will not all be “Viewable”) or one displayed in the graphicarc below.

All Satellites - This list contains all the satellites which have been programmed into the panel, regardless ofyour location or LNB type. Scroll up or down through the list of satellites in the panels software database. Asyou scroll down through the list, the name and longitude position of the satellite is displayed in the AllSatellites window. When you have the desired satellite displayed, press Select Satellite button to target theantenna to that satellite. Some of these satellites will not be “viewable” (above the horizon) from your locationand will display a “Satellite Out Of Range” error when you try to target them. Some of the others may be

above the horizon, but can not be used with the LNB you currently have installed and will display a“Frequency Is Not Supported By LNB” on the Status bar when you try to target one of them. Currently, youcan NOT add satellites to the database.

Viewable Satellites Graphic - Displays all the satellites in the database that are above the horizon fromyour current latitude & longitude AND that are the same frequency band and polarization mode as yourcurrently installed feed/LNB.

The satellites listed on the arc are the satellites that your hardware configuration would allow you to receive. However, these satellites may not necessarily be aiming their signal at your geographic location (refer to thefootprint chart for each of these satellites) AND you must have the correct satellite receiver (with encryptiondecoder and paid subscription) to actually view the signals from them.

If you touch the longitude text of one of the other satellites in this arc, it will be highlighted by the gray circleand its name/longitude will appear in the “All Satellites” window. If you want to switch to this satellite, pressthe Select Satellite button.

If more satellites are “viewable than space allows for in the arc, the arrow buttons at the bottom of each sideof the arc, will scroll down that side of the arc to display the additional satellites. The large arrow (zenithsymbol) on the under side of the arc shows your longitude position on the arc, which is the highest elevationsatellite position possible (in the arc) from your current geographic location. This zenith pointer will also moveas you scroll down one side, or the other, of the arc of satellites.

4.2. Satellite - Edit MenuThis page is used to edit the satellite database stored in the panel memory, but it does not allow you to enteradditional satellites or delete existing satellites.

Tracking Frequency - The Tracking Frequency is the IF frequency which will be used to track the Selectedsatellite. To change this setting, touch the button and type in the desired tracking frequency by using theNumber keys in the Numeric Keypad. The numeric value you enter must be the Intermediate Frequency (inMHz) output of your LNB (950-2150) that you want to use for Tracking. The UP/DOWN arrow keys may beused to increment/decrement the frequency to fine tune it in 1 MHz steps. Set Frequency to 0000 to selectExternal AGC mode, to read input from X1 & X2 terminals on the Terminal Mounting Strip. Press the ENTERkey to set the value.

Symbol Rate - Baud, or Symbol, Rate of the digital signal is used by the tracking receiver for signal lock onthe Selected satellite. To change this setting, touch its button and type in the desired Symbol Rate with theNumber keys, and then the ENTER key, in the Numeric Keypad. Current receivers can be set to any desiredBaud Rate between 3000 and 30000.

FEC - The Forward Error Correction Rate of the digital signal is used by the tracking receiver for signal lockon the Selected satellite. To change this setting, touch its button and scroll through the choices by using UPor DOWN arrow key, and then the ENTER key, in the Numeric Keypad. The selections are: AUTO, 1/2, 2/3,3/4, 5/6, 6/7, 7/8, SCPC and NBIF. The Default setting (AUTO) automatically scans through all the standardDVB & DSS FEC rates.

NID - The Network ID (four digit HEX value) contained in the digital signal is used by the tracking receiver toIdentify this Selected satellite. To change this setting, touch its button and type in the desired NID by usingthe Number keys, and then the ENTER key, in the numeric keypad. Enter a valid NID Hex value, or 0000 tonot use a Network ID, or a pseudo NID (FFFE for DSS signals or FFFD for DVB signals). Use a two keysequence (decimal point followed by a number key) to enter an alpha character. Key “.” then “1” to enter anA up through “.” then “6” to enter an F.

(Example: to enter an NID of 1B3D you would key in “ 1, ., 2, 3, ., 4 “ ).

Forced NID - If the satellite transmits a specific 4 digit hexadecimal NID this setting should be OFF.

If the satellite does NOT generate an NID but does have a unique combination of FREQ, BAUD and FEClock, this setting should be set to ON. The panel will then generate its own unique forced NID (FFFE for DSSsignals or FFFD for DVB signals) to represent the desired satellite. In this case, you must enter this (forced)pseudo NID in the NID setting above.

Polarization - This setting selects which polarization is used for tracking the Selected satellite signal.Caution: Changing this setting requires the Frequency, Symbol Rate, FEC Rate and NID settings to bereviewed/changed also. To start a graph, press one of the three frequency range buttons. The spectrum analyzer graph will beginwriting from left to right, as indicated by the heavy black line. The heavy Green line is the current TrackingFrequency setting. Press the Auto Set button to automatically center the amplitude of the display. Use theUP or DOWN arrow keys to move the graphed data up or down in the grid (shifts the AGC values).

This graph can be very useful for verifying that you are receiving good signal level and to identify satellites.Your tracking frequency should be centered on one of the peaks. If your tracking frequency is centered inbetween peaks, it could be because your polarization, or frequency, setting for this satellite is incorrect or youare not on the correct satellite.

6.4. Diagnostics - Self Test MenuNote: This feature is not available in the current software.

This page will be used to run or view the results of a Self Test. The antenna will automatically run the selftest during initialization or will be able to be commanded to run a self test whenever desired.

6.6. Diagnostics - Strip Chart MenuProvides a diagnostic strip chart recording of antenna performance. It is an excellent tool for a technician touse to capture an intermittent problem in the system.

Center - Press the center button to center the four selected lines of data in the four windows. Only four linesmay be displayed, but all of the data listed in the line assignment paragraph is being recorded.

Line assignment - Each of the four lines (Green, Blue, Magenta and Red) can be assigned to display onevalue of recorded data. The recorded data includes: Elevation, Azimuth, Cross Level, Relative, Heading,AGC, Head+Rel, Relative+ and Heading+. In the screen above the Green line is set to Elevation, the Blueline is set to Azimuth, the Magenta line is set to Relative+Heading (this should be the same as Azimuth ifheading input from the Gyro Compass is good) and the Red line is set to AGC.

The recorded lines left to right in time, the current value is written on the right limit of the display the oldervalues are stepped to the left as the new value is written on the right. Therefore, the oldest sample is thepiece that is farthest to the left, and is just about to be pushed off the left side of the screen.

In very basic terms: The Azimuth, Elevation and AGC (signal) values should stay fairly flat while ON satelliteindicating signal is staying consistently high and the Azimuth & Elevation values are steady (these will changelong term as the ship travels in Latitude & Longitude, but short term they should stay close to the samevalues). If Azimuth, or Elevation, do move from their correct values, the antenna will no longer be pointed atthe peak signal, and the signal level from the satellite should fall. Azimuth is the sum of Heading plusrelative, therefore, as Heading goes UP Relative MUST go DOWN (equal & opposite to the Heading input) forthe antenna to stay ON satellite.

In normal operation (Tracking the satellite), if you see signal level fall (a sign of the satellite signal being lost),you could look at the other displayed lines to see if you can determine why the signal level is falling. You lookjust slightly to the left of where signal began falling (a few seconds before signal fell). If you see; Elevationmoved first then signal started falling you would know that the antenna mis-pointed in elevation and that iswhy signal fell. Now you would try to find out why elevation moved. If signal fell and none of the other linesappear to have caused it, you would check for blockage or RF signal failure.

Press the Center button to center the lines in the graph.

Press the Save button to save the current screen of data to a file in the panels memory. If you have captureda loss of signal a Technician will be able to view the file on a computer to try to ascertain why signal was lost.

6.7. Diagnostics - Status Log MenuThis page logs events and status messages that have occurred in the system.

UP/DOWN arrow keys - Press the UP or DOWN arrow key to scroll through the events in the log.
