Installing Shutoff valves & Supply TubesBy: Justin Beaumont(Not liable for use of information)
Planning (2 - 3 Hours)
● Make a supply list.○ suggested: compression valve, compressions fittings, flexible supply
tube.
● Tool list: Mini-pipe tubing cutter or minihacksaw, emery cloth, two adjustable wrenches.
● Carefully inspect the pipes under your sink and determine whether they unscrew from the wall or if they will need to be cut.○ If you need to cut the pipes off of the wall make certain that you DO
NOT cut close to the wall.
Disconnect Old Pipes (15 - 25 min)
● TURN OFF THE MAIN WATER SUPPLY!
● Unscrew the supply pipe at the wall under the sink.● If the pipe is soldered in place, you will have to cut the
pipe with a mini-pipe tubing cutter.○ Only use a hack saw as a last resort.
Disconnect continued...NOTE: Make sure to leave enough room between the plate (escutcheon plate) and the cut to install the new fitting.
● Use an emery cloth to deburr the pipe.
Begin Installing New Fixtures● Place the compression ring over the end of the supply
pipe.○ Make sure that the ring completely
covers the end of the pipe.
● Thread the compression valveinto the compression nut.● Make sure that the valve slides
squarely & snuggly over the ring.● Use your hand to tighten, use a drop
oil on the threads if the nut won't turn.
● Don't use pipe compount on acompression fixture.
Tightening● Do NOT over tighten the
compression valve to the nut.
● Use one wrench to hold back the valve while keeping it square anduse the other wrench to turn the
nut.
Supply tubes● Follow the same procedure as valve installation, in
order to install the water supply lines.
● Make sure that you briefly turn on the water to flush the lines previous to installing all new fixtures.(Note: Be smart and place a bucket under the plumbing to catch the water)
