Introduction

Cengage Learning offers MindTap course integration within an institution’s Moodle. Instructors can

create a course on Moodle and integrate a MindTap course as well as add direct links to homework

assignments and chapters.

Cengage Learning Moodle Integration offers:

Seamless User Experience

— Both instructors and students access MindTap using LMS login credentials

— Instructors link a Moodle Account with a Cengage Instructor Account on the first cross over

(this is a one-time event)

— Students are never prompted to create a CengageBrain account

Content Customization with Deep Linking

— Customize a course to include direct links to specific activities

Creating an Integrated MindTap Course in Moodle

This section explains how to create a MindTap course in a Moodle:

NOTE: Instructors need Moodle courses before beginning this procedure.

1 Navigate to the Moodle course.

2 Click Turn editing on.

3 Click Add an activity or resource.

Result: The Add an activity or resource page displays.



4 Under External Tools, Select General tool.

5 Click Add.

Result: The Activity options page displays.



6 Access the fulfillment email from Cengage Learning and copy the MindLinks Course URL.

7 Complete the following fields.

Activity Name: Name the Activity.

External Tool Type: Select Automatic, based on Launch URL.

Launch URL: Paste the URL.

Launch Container: Select New Window.

8 Click Privacy.

Result: Privacy Options display.

9 Confirm the following:

Share launcher’s name with the tool (Selected)

Share launcher’s e-mail with the tool (Selected)

Accept grades from the tool (NOT selected)



10 Click Save and return to course.

Result: The MindTap course displays on the course homepage.

11 Click the MindTap Course link.

Result: The Account registration page displays.

12 Click Register Now.

Result: The Login page displays.



13 Enter email address and password. Click Login.

NOTE: This is where Moodle connects with a Cengage Learning instructor account. Instructors can create a Cengage Learning instructor account from this page.

Result: The Cengage Learning Account Registration completion page displays. The instructor redirects to the Create Course in Cengage/CengageNOW page.

Provisioning the MindTap Course

Now that the instructor has connected his or her Moodle and Cengage Learning account, he or she can

create an integrated MindTap course in Moodle.

These instructions are for creating a course using the Create a new Cengage/ MindTap course option in

the Content Selector.


1 There are three options:

Create a new MindTap Course: Instructors use this option if the instructor has never used MindTap before.

Copy from my existing course: This option will provide a list of courses that is based on the same product and linked to the instructor’s Cengage Instructor Account.

Copy from another instructor’s course: Instructors need the course key to copy

Select Create a new Cengage/ MindTap course.

Result: Details displays for the MindTap course.



2 Fill in course details and click Continue.

Result: The MindTap Service Agreement displays.

3 Click Accept.

Result: The MindTap Course displays.


Content Customization and Deep Linking in Moodle

Instructors may add deep links to Learning Activities directly to modules within the Moodle course.

NOTE: Adding deep links directly to a Moodle course enables a student to click a chapter or assignment

link to navigate to that chapter or assignment within MindTap, instead of needing to navigate to it

within the MindTap course.

Adding Links to Specific Learning Activities

Instructors can add links to specific learning activities in MindTap.


1 Click the MindTap course link.

Result: The MindTap course displays in a new window.

2 Hover mouse over activity.

Result: The edit options display.

3 Click the Activity link.

Result: The activity URL displays.



4 Click Copy Link.

Result: The confirmation of copied text displays.

5 Click OK.

Result: The instructor exits the confirmation page.

6 Return to Moodle.


Result: Instructors can edit their course.





9 Under External Tools, Select General tool.

10 Click Add.

Result: Result: The Activity options page displays.



11 Complete the following fields:





12 Click Privacy.

Click Save and return to course.

Result: The Activity is added to the Moodle course.

Adding a Technical Support Link into an Integrated Course

The Technical Support Link allows instructors and students to create new support cases for MindLinks

which route to the Cengage dedicated LMS Technical Support group.

Adding the Content Selector

Instructors need to add the Content Selector before they can add they can add the Technical Support

Link to their Moodle course. Instructors should use the following procedure to add the Content

Selector:

6 Copy the MindLinks Content Selector URL from the fulfillment email you received from Cengage Learning.

11 Click the Cengage Content Selector link.

Result: The Select Content page displays.

Adding a the Cengage Technical Support Link

This section explains how instructors add the Cengage Technical Support Link to Moodle:


1 Click Cengage Learning Content Selector.

Result: The Select Content page displays.



2 Select the content to add by hovering over the assignment you wish to add

3 Click the Cengage Technical Support link icon.

Result: The Copied text to clipboard overlay displays.

4 Click OK.

Result: The Copied text to clipboard overlay closes and the Select Content page displays.

5 Navigate back to the Moodle course.




Result: The editing options display.

7 Click Add activity or resource.

Result: The Add activity or resource page displays.

10 Click Add.
