Some of her deepest friendships have begun here. Some are brief, yet unforgettable. Others, like that of a young lady who came to UMHS with spina bifida and now lives pain free, will last a lifetime. Together, they struggled and won; today, they share those memories and nurture new ones as she, now a wife and doting mother, continues on her life’s journey.

i have many stories, but one of the stories that really stands out to me is about a young lady who’s been a patient here at U of M, probably 20 years of her life. she had spina bifida, but she beat the odds.

Radiology and Imaging Services

The UMHS Radiology Department is truly one of the best in the country. The over 1,000 radiology professionals here are experts in all modalities of imaging and are empowered with the latest in technology and equipment. Together, they help our family of physicians diagnose thousands of patients through over 525,000 procedures every year.

This hospital has some of the most brilliant people, most brilliant minds. We take care of our patients through and through. There’s no better feeling than going home and saying, ‘You know what? i made a difference for one individual today.’

Andris – CT Supervisor

Andris - As a team leader in the Radiology Department at UMHS, you’ll work with a collaborative team committed to clinical excellence. Andris, Afternoon Supervisor in Computed Tomography, couldn’t agree more.

For him, the attention he received from radiologists as a child inspired him to find a place where he could do the same. That place is UMHS. Today, Andris acts as a day-to-day problem solver for patients and serves as a liaison with radiologists to ensure everything runs smoothly, patients are happy and radiologists receive diagnostic images that can be clearly interpreted.

ophthalmic Technicians

The W.K. Kellogg Eye Center, one of the top eye centers in the country, is expanding with a new facility focused on excellence in vision research, education and patient care. Kellogg specialists have conducted over 128,000 patient visits and more than 5,600 surgical procedures. An integral part of the clinical eye care team, Ophthalmic Technicians work closely with physicians to evaluate and manage a variety of ocular diseases.

Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation at UMHS means improving quality of life and restoring the gift of independence back to a patient’s life. Our Rehabilitation team is made up of approximately 250 Occupational and Physical Therapists, Speech-Language Pathologists, and Athletic Trainers within our MedSport group.

Respiratory

Our UMHS team is composed of over 150 clinical specialists, Respiratory Therapists and Technicians, educators and supervisors. Their common goal: to provide respiratory care and cardiovascular services to an adult/pediatric population in need of life support, inhaled medications, oxygen therapy and more.

The Michigan Difference, to me, means you get to make that difference in a patient’s life, a difference that comes from a well-rounded team, a team of PTs, OTs, nursing.

Patient Food and Nutrition Services

A well-balanced and nutritious meal can brighten the spirits of a patient and actively contribute to the healing process. As a Registered Dietician or Dietetic Technician with a passion for medical nutritional therapy, you will provide nutritional assessment and education to our patient population.

Physician Assistant

At UMHS, Physician Assistants are integral to the delivery of quality care. Regardless of your area of clinical interest, there are boundless opportunities to advance your career. Mirroring the diverse nature of our patient population, PAs are practicing in over 30 clinical services, covering most medical and surgical specialties and subspecialties.

Surgical Assistants in the OR, such as Surgical Technologists and Instrument Processors, share a personal mission to provide the highest-quality patient care. They also strive to meet the needs of each individual patient to make the OR experience as pleasant as possible. In the process, we continually strive to maintain the highest level of professionalism with a strong emphasis on education and training.

Brian – Physician Assistant

Brian works at UMHS for the opportunity to collaborate with some of the most talented and compassionate physicians in medicine.

Every day, Brian teams with other experts to put patients and families first. He enjoys the emphasis on quality care, in addition to quality research. Part of Brian’s role is to prepare patients for upcoming surgeries. Being there for a patient before a serious procedure is one of the reasons he loves his work.

Pharmacy

The world of pharmacy is constantly on the move. Join us in the UMHS Pharmacy Department, where the latest technology advancements are used to improve patient care and safety. Our department of over 300 includes Clinical and Staff Pharmacists as well as Pharmacy Technicians. We collaborate with world-class physicians, nurses and medical staff to provide rational, cost-effective pharmacotherapy for patients of all ages.

Pathology and Laboratory Services

Within this highly respected department, you’ll collaborate with over 600 clinical employees, including Clinical Technologists, Cytotechnologists, Histotechnologists, Medical Technologists, Phlebotomists and more. We are recognized for our lab programs and utilize the latest practices to assistant physicians in complex cases.

The model that we have here at Michigan is one that is very unique and allows people to grow and to see different things and to really believe the skies the limit as far as development and growth.
