International Women’s Day Celebrations

IIT Mandi celebrated International Women’s day on 8th March 2018. Prof. Timothy A. Gonsalves and Dr. Priscilla Gonsalves honoured the gathering with their presence. The event was actively participated by students, faculty members and staff. The significance of the day was presented by Ms. Amrutha and the objectives of women’s centre by Dr. Bindu Radhamany.

This was followed by a talk “Design your life” by Ms. Parul Mittal, author of the national best seller, Heart breaks and Dreams! The Girls @ IIT. The talk threw light on the kind of mind set required that would take oneself closer to one’s goal.

Mr. Sanjay and Mr. Ravi (4th yr B.Tech) entertained the audience by a song “Maa”. This was followed by discussions on the theme “Balance of physical, emotional and intellectual realm in women’s life”. The panelists were Ms. Parul Mittal, Prof. Padmini Swaminathan, Dr. Tulika Srivastava, Dr. Padmanabhan, Ms. Dikshita Nath, Ms. Neha Muthiyan, Mr. C.L. Sharma and Ms. Lishma Anand. The discussions were moderated by Dr. Aruna Bommareddi.

In the next session, Ms. Sandhya Menon introduced to some of the enterprising

entrepreneurs mentored by EWOK (Enabling Womens of Kamand). The program was concluded with a talk “Gendering Public Policies” by Prof. Padmini Swaminathan, a Feminist

Economist. She spoke how public policies have been drafted in India without taking care of the need and the demand of women in India.

Last but not the least, thanks to people behind the scenes; Prof. Timothy A. Gonsalves, Ms. Chandan, Dr. Surya, Dr. Renu MR., Dr. Mousumi Mukherjee and Mr. Prateek for their efforts to bring the program to a successful end.
