Who we are
The Gehrlicher Group designs, constructs and
finances photovoltaic power systems in Europe.
Our Head Office is based in Dornach near Mu-
nich and we have branch offices in Neustadt
near Coburg, on the Canary Island of Fuerteven-
tura, Athens, Milan and Spain (Madrid, Murcia).
The Gehrlicher Group currently has over 150 em-
ployees.
Our strengths are designing, constructing and
maintaining photovoltaic systems – all from one
source:
As wholesaler, we offer solar modules, inverters,
substructures designed by ourselves, intelligent
cable systems and complete photovoltaic systems
that can be installed regionally
on the customer’s request.
Thanks to the combination of many years of ex-
perience, innovation and professional realisa-
tion, we improve existing and develop new pro-
ducts. For investors, we project, sell and operate
photovoltaic funds.
The annual growth of the Gehrlicher Group ranks
well over the industry average. Long-term supply
contracts with the largest module producers
worldwide and strategic partnerships, based on
our technologically innovative advances, assure
the group success to attractive prospects on the
worldwide booming photovoltaic market.
We are internationalising our business activities.
We are already constructing large-scale installa-
tions in Spain with plans to construct solar power
plants in Italy, Greece and France. An expansion
to further European countries is planned. With
the international operating solar funds, we are
gradually becoming independent of the German
Renewable Energy Sources Act and its decreas-
ing feed-in rate.

We are technology leaders
The Gehrlicher Group is a competent and serious
partner to the photovoltaic industry. We are tech-
nology leaders. Our participation in successful
EU projects and our co-operation with universities
contribute to secure tomorrow’s technological
know-how. Our R&D department constantly de-
velops new ideas; these flow into our production
just as the developments from co-operation proj-
ects do.
…Monitoring
Based on several EU projects, we have acquired
an extensive database of all current module
types, inverters and installations. The Gehrlicher
Group has been constructing different types of
PV systems since 1994 and carries out extensive
evaluation procedures. On the basis of this exten-
sive experience, we have been actively occupied
with thin-film technology since the start of this
century and developed optimal configuration
solutions to increase output and profit.
... Thin-film technology
Thin-film technology is set for major growth. As a
result of early and close co-operation with lead-
ing manufacturers such as the US company
First Solar, we have acquired several years of
experience with thin-film technology and estab-
lished ourselves as a provider of across the
board know-how. We have constructed the
largest thin-film test field worldwide on a multi-
storey car park of “Neue Messe” (new exhibition
centre) in Munich-Riem and are supervising the
five-year monitoring phase. In Bullas (Spain), we
constructed the largest thin-film installation in
Spain in 2007.

Our history
In contrast to specialised solar installation com-
panies that primarily install small-scale systems
and obtain all components from wholesalers, we
co-operate directly with the manufacturers of
solar modules and inverters. The subsequent role
of a wholesaler co-operating with leading manu-
facturers in the module sector not only assures us
favourable prices. It also enables us to not only
offer the individual components of leading manu-
facturers, but in combination with our own
products, also complete systems and customized
solutions for every application.
We design, construct, finance and market free-
field photovoltaic systems with several mega-
watts of power as a fund in Germany and Spain.
We were the first company in Europe to success-
fully realise co-operative models for roof systems
and, in so doing, have established ourselves as
pioneers of a new development in the solar in-
dustry. In 1998, we established the first profes-
sional and trend-setting solar fund in Europe.
Our targets
The Gehrlicher Solar AG will continue to per-
form on the highest quality level also in the future
and, in doing so, aim to become the market
leader in terms of competence in the photo-
voltaic industry. The company continues to grow
above the market growth customary within the
industry; and due to the increasing number of
pieces involved, we are constantly optimising our
price-performance ratio. The Gehrlicher Solar
AG focuses on further product developments of
its own as well as on the enlargement of its quali-
fied team of workers. The increasing synergies
and the progressive internationalization enable
us to secure the future markets beyond the Ger-
man borders.
6
Our strengths
We are active as pioneers in numerous fields and
rank as one of the best technological innovators
in the industry.
In the design of photovoltaic systems, we focus on
high-quality performance, long service life and
an optimised yield for maximum system output
and profit. This we guarantee with optimal and
highly detailed system design and dimensioning.
We have extensive experience in the design and
construction of photovoltaic power plants. Before
we market and sell new products, we reassure
ourselves of the quality of these products and test
them in our own plants.
We offer everything from one source. We pro-
vide turn-key photovoltaic power plants. We take
care of all project phases from the quotation
through to installation and marketing of the
shares. We can also support project financing
upon request. We have long established contacts
with investors, enabling us to finance individual
projects of any size.
The interdisciplinary teamwork of architects, engi-
neers, craftsmen and financial experts across the
board allows us to realise relevant solutions and
complex construction projects. With our experi-
enced planning and financial experts, we can
offer concepts tailored to suit your specific needs.
We are acclaimed experts in the construction of
integrated photovoltaic systems. We have twice
been awarded with the Solar Prize of the
Bavarian Chamber of Architects.

Subsidiaries
With its subsidiaries, the Gehrlicher Group is in-
ternationally active. These subsidiaries construct
free-field installations in Spain, Italy and Greece.
Through our companies, we have direct contact
to the local public authorities. Large areas of
Southern Europe offer the best preconditions for
the use of photovoltaics with regard to both cli-
matic aspects as well as legal requirements.
Despite the red tape, the Gehrlicher Group en-
tered the highly attractive Spanish market as
early as 2004 and made a name for itself as a
reputable international provider of turn-key sys-
tems. The Gehrlicher Group has been active in
the Canaries since 1994 and has excellent per-
sonal contacts locally. Apart from Southern
Spain, the Canaries are the best European site
for solar power plants as they have by far the
highest solarisation and also significant economic
potential for tax reasons.
In addition to Spain, we have also been active in
Italy with our office in Milan and since 2007 also
in Greece. With our subsidiary "Gehrlicher Solar
Hellas MEPE" we are represented on the highly
promising Greek market with our own office in

Quick and reliable cabling
The professional cable feeder for photovoltaic
systems in particular in the area of thin-film
modules enables fast, convenient and effective
DC cabling.
When using conventional generator terminal
boxes in conjunction with thin-film modules in
particular, the time required for cabling increases
considerably. Gehrlicher Solar AG therefore de-
veloped together with Prysmian (Pirelli) a high-
quality single and double-line cable feeder,
adapted to the respective module type and
markets the same.
DC cabling on site is reduced considerably. The
nubbel is suitable for free-field and rooftop pho-
tovoltaic systems with free and fixed installation.
The requirements defined in IEC 61215; 61646
and IEC 64/1123/ CD are applicable.

Chances of the photovoltaic market
Prices for oil, gas and coal are rising worldwide.
This is due to increasing shortages, insecure polit-
ical situations around the production regions in
the Middle East, South America and Russia as
well as a significant increase in the energy de-
mand of the emerging countries in Eastern Eu-
rope and Asia. In contrast, the cost effectiveness
of renewable energy sources is increasing. The
opportunities to become established on the en-
ergy market in this sector are therefore relatively
high.
Photovoltaics is set to play a more important role
in the energy mix in the future. The manufacturers
of solar cells and modules will have increased
their production capacities worldwide before
long to the extent that they will satisfy demand
on the one hand and achieve cost reductions in
production due to higher piece numbers on the
other.
The German Renewable Energies Sources Act
(EEG) concentrates precisely on this effect due to
its annual tariff reduction and also exerts eco-
nomic pressure on the manufacturers to produce
more cheaply each year. For investors in photo-
voltaic systems, the EEG provides long-term plan-
ning security through the 20-year guaranteed
feed-in tariff.
In the meantime, 32 further countries, e.g.
France, Spain, Italy and Greece have introduced
laws similar to the German EEG with in-feed
tariffs guaranteed over the long-term. This offers
international companies such as the Gehrlicher
Group profitable growth opportunities.

We are proud of our achievements
After 15 years of company history, we can look
back on numerous successful projects from all
photovoltaic sectors in Germany:
- Design, planning and realisation of large-scale
free-field installations
- Use of the latest photovoltaic technology on
behalf of and with the support of the EU
- A noise barrier of solar modules along the
motorway
- Innovative building services engineering
- Numerous small scale systems on halls, barns
and house roofs
In addition to Germany, we have completed
diverse projects in the rest of Europe. Several
projects have been successfully completed by
our subsidiaries ranging from tracking controlled
photovoltaic systems up to multi-megawatt parks
(e.g. a 5 MW installation in Spain/Murcia) in
different regions and countries.

As part of the EU project "PV Enlargement", a
total of 30 partners at 32 locations in 11 countries
are constructing solar power systems with highly
innovative or cost-efficient technologies. The solar
power system on the roof of the multi-storey
carpark on the exhibition centre in Munich is the
largest system of this kind planned worldwide.
This extraordinary solar power system is a world-
wide unique solar technology performance test.
Thin-film modules of amorphous silicon, cadmium-
telluride and copper indium diselenide are com-
pared with highly efficient crystalline silicon
modules. The measuring results of the test field
provide information on the performance of the
various solar cell types.

With a capacity of over 10 MWp and an area
of 30 ha, the Solar Park Helmeringen is cur-
rently the biggest solar power plant in Swabia.
The plant generates three times as much electric-
ity as our photovoltaic system in Gundelfingen.
With about 10,500,000 generated kilowatt-
hours, approximately 10,000 citizens can meet
their electricity needs; this nearly amounts to the
population of Lauingen (11,123 residents as of
December 2007).

PV-soundless noise barrier on the
motorway A 92 Freising (500 kWp)
With a length of one kilometre, this photovoltaic
system along the A 92 motorway was the
world's largest acoustic barrier of solar modules
to be constructed at the time. It not only shields
the Freisinger business park located behind the
barrier from traffic noise, but also feeds the pub-
lic grid with 500 kilowatts of eco-friendly elec-
tricity. The operator is the public services feed-in
company of the city of Freising. Special modules
of the Spanish manufacturer Isofotón were used
for the system. Its ceramic design combines two
functions in one element: They produce electric-
ity from sunlight and also serve as noise protec-
tion. The so-called CER modules consist of a
white ceramic carrier plate and a clear Tedlar
film with 36 laminate monocrystalline solar cells.
The European Commission has promoted the in-
novative photovoltaic technology as part of its
fifth basic research and development pro-
gramme.

In Ottobrunn near Munich, we designed,
planned and installed a roof-integrated thin-film
system for a solar passive house. 196 thin-film
modules simultaneously form as a so-called in-
roof construction, the rainproof roof cladding.
A structure ventilated at the rear prevents the
modules from heating up. The owner was

We installed the largest solar power system at
the time on a residential building in Munich. The
system extends over 500 metres along the roofs
of the four-storey residential building in the dis-
trict of Neuhausen in Munich. The solar power
system is divided into two sections with different
types of solar modules. In the western part,
framed modules of Shell Solar with polycrys-
talline cells were used. Thin-film modules of First
Solar supply solar power in the eastern part.
The residential building belongs to the Munich
Housing Association GEWOFAG and is a listed
building. However, the Monument Protection
Authority could be convinced that the solar
modules did not degrade the character of
the district as a whole, but on the contrary,
enhanced the overall architectural image of
the building.

Office-building / Dr. Jockisch, Solicitors,
Landshut (27 kWp)
This is a completely glazed 5-storey building with
a diameter of 18 m.
On account of the large-area glazed facade of
this circular building, a "shadow" photovoltaic
system in the form of a motor-driven 34 tonnes
steel frame was constructed. This installation was
equipped with PV modules that serve as shading
elements and are tracked according to the posi-
tion of the sun. The facade system was addition-
ally extended above the flat roof with an oval
shaped solar "shield", similarly tracked accord-
ing to the position of the sun. This serves to pro-
tect the meeting room on the top floor from direct
sunlight, the roof surface of which is completely
glazed. The shadow photovoltaic system (Archi-
tect HBH, Project Manager Barbara Gehrlicher),
received an award from the Bavarian Chamber
of Architects in November 2000 in the "Innova-
tive building-integrated solar power systems in
Bavaria" competition.
