Stratford Government
Launched in 2009, it is a non-profit certification program for municipalities in New Jersey that want to go green, save money, and take steps to sustain their quality of life over the long term
They provide tools, training, and financial incentives to support and reward communities as they pursue sustainability programs
There are 16 categories with break downs and subgroups where actions can be made to achieve this certification
Sustainable Jersey
Stratford needs a minimum of 150 points to complete the Bronze Level of Sustainable Jersey
Innovative Demonstration Projects have the potential of earning 70 points towards this goal

Innovative Demonstration Projects
Thermal energy that is generated and stored in the Earth
Clean and sustainableRange from shallow ground to hot water and
hot rock which are found a few miles below the Earth’s surface
Geothermal heat pumps can tap into this resource to heat and cool buildings
Geothermal Energy
A roof of a building that is partially or completely covered with vegetation and a growing medium, planted over a waterproofing membrane
It can also include additional layers like a root barrier and drainage and irrigation systems
Rooftop ponds are another form of green roofs which are used to treat grey water
Green Roofs
Serve several purposes for a building:Absorb rainwaterProvide insulationCreate a habitat for wildlifeHelp to lower urban air temperatures
Green roof can also mean a roof using some form of green technologyCool roofsSolar thermal collectorsPhotovoltaic panels
Green Roofs Cont.
A planted depression or hole that allows rainwater runoff from impervious urban areas like roofs, driveways, walkways, and parking lots the opportunity to be absorbed
Reduces rain runoff by allowing storm water to soak into the ground as opposed to flowing into storm drains and surface waters which causes erosion, water pollution, and flooding
Raingardens
Can be designed for specific soils and climates
Improve water quality in nearby bodies of water
Cut down amount of pollution reaching creeks and streams by up to 30%
Native plants are reccommended since they will do the best in the provided climate
Rain Gardens Cont.
Conversion of sunlight into electricity
Two methods:Directly using photovoltaics (PV)Indirectly using concentrated solar power
(CSP)
Solar Power
A turbine that converts kinetic energy from the wind into mechanical energy
Mechanical energy can be used to produce electricity
Can be used from producing energy to charge batteries to producing commercial electricity
Wind Energy
