    Three Calculator Choices

    Unit Converter: Easy-to-use converter allows you toquickly convert from one type of engineering unit toanother.

    Basic Calculators: Simple equations that can besolved explicitly for all variables.

    Expert Calculators:

    Guide the user to conclusions or recommendations

    using built-in logical statements based on industryexperience and/or

    Have multiple results, numerical and logical.

    Basic Calculator Examples

    Basic Calculators:

    Example #1 You want to know how muchhorsepower will be needed for the following pumpconditions:

    500 gpm, 200 ft of head, s.g. = .90, and efficiency of 68%. To answer this question go to basicscalculator and select Brake Horsepower.

    After entering the data and pressing the Solvebutton, you get an answer of 33.422 hp.

    Example #1 METRIC You want to know how muchhorsepower will be needed for the followingconditions:

    500 barrels per minute, 200 meters of head, s.g. =.90, and efficiency of 68%.

    After modifying the input data and pressing the Solvebutton again, you get 4605.457 hp.

    Expert Example # 1

    Centrifugal Pump Analysis Output:TDH = 590

    Ns = 850

    Nss = 11,651Impeller Diameter = 12.6667 inches

    BHP = 165 hp

    Note: After clicking the eff. versus Ns link, you see thatefficiency should be 74% instead of 65%. This meansyou should redo the analysis using the new value for efficiency.

    Expert Example # 1

    After changing efficiency to 74%, rerun theanalysis.

    Centrifugal Pump Analysis Output :

    TDH = 590

    Ns = 850

    Nss = 11,651 (This is too high)

    Impeller Diameter = 12.6667 inches

    BHP = 145 hp (Due to higher efficiency)

    Eff. = 74% instead of 65%

    Expert Example # 1

    Change the NPSHa value to 25 ft to lower the Nss. After rerunning the analysis, we get:

    TDH = 590

    Ns = 850Nss = 9695 (This is acceptable)

    Impeller Diameter = 12.6667 inches

    BHP = 145 hp (Due to higher efficiency)

    Eff. = 74%

    Expert Example # 2

    Expert Calculators:

    We will use the Conductor Sizing ExpertCalculator from the home page to determine therequired conductor size for a 75 HP, 460 VAC,

    96 Amps, 3 Phase motor.

    Adjustments for ambient temperature and parallelconductors can be made along with cable andbreaker types.

    Results:1 AWG rate for up to 120 Amperes.
