Sharif University of Technology

Sharif University of Technology (SUT) is the highest ranked techno-logical university in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Founded in 1966, SUT has expanded its services and today, it comprises 13 different departments in science and engineering with 484 faculty members and more than 12000 students and 40,000 alumni. All departments offer B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degree programs. SUT has established 21 re-search centers and has highest income from the industry in the country. Undergraduate admission at SUT is limited to the top 5% of students who pass the nationwide entrance examination taken annually by about 250,000 high school leavers. SUT is globally recognized univer-sity, especially known for its graduates getting admission from highest ranked universities all around the world, including Stanford Universi-ty and MIT. The university is located in Tehran, Iran. Tehran is the most industrialized province in Iran, has over 12 million inhabitants and is Iran’s most densely populated region. These are the reasons that make Tehran the ideal location for technical institutions such as SUT which seeks to orient its scholarly pursuits toward the satisfaction of the scientific and technological needs of industry and society as a whole. The rigorous educational program, the high quality of research output and the large number of industrial collaborations of SUT are reflected in the facts that SUT is ranked 1st in the country and 432nd in the world (QS 2019), 48th in the world for Citation per Faculty (QS 2019), and 38th in the world for Industrial Income (THE 2018), re-spectively.

Sharif Science and Technology Park

Sharif Science and Technology Park located in the vicinity of Sharif University of Technology has shaped an ecosystem for SUT students, alumni and faculty members to commercialize their ideas, develop their high-tech businesses, and receive all kinds of support. Offering a wide range of services and supporting programs for different stages of business development, the Park consists of multi-tenant buildings for SMEs, Incubator Center for startup companies, Accelerator for start-ups teams as well as Entrepreneurship Center and Sharif VC. These elements have formed a 17-years-old innovation ecosystem, which has come to fruition in terms of development of over 400 start-ups and technology-based companies.

Sharif Incubator was established in 2003. This center helps newly-established tech-compa-nies to grow by providing residency around the university and other supporting services such as mentorship and facilitating access to venture capital. More than 280 companies have been admitted to the Incubator so far. Currently, more than 40 companies are set-tled in Incubator Center and its specialized sites.

Multi-tenant Buildings are ideal places for mature companies who have passed early stages of their development and want to be part of Sharif innovation ecosystem. Cur-rently, 25 companies are operating in three technology complexes. Tax exemption, fi-nance facilitation, advisory services and business development are some services that these companies receive.

Multi-tenant BuildingsIncubator

Sharif Accelerator was founded in 2014 as the first university accelerator to support student startups with innovative ideas. The main services of the accelerator include providing a shared workplace, seed money, and mentorship. More than 90 start-ups have benefited from Sharif Accelerator ser-vices so far and many of them have succeeded in attracting venture capital. Startup Trigger Entre-preneurship Events and the gathering of startups and investors are some other successful examples of Sharif Accelerator’s programs.

Entrepreneurship Center of Sharif University of Technology was established in 2000. The main mission of the center is promoting entrepreneur-ial culture and mindset among university stu-dents, professors and graduates, and to improve the skills needed to start a business. Some of the main activates of this center include holding entrepreneurship events, the VCCUP Festival, workshops and training courses, industry tours, and authoring and publishing books on entre-preneurship.
