OVERVIEW | AFRICA FINANCIAL SERVICES INVESTMENT CONFERENCE

AFSIC, now in its 7th year, takes place 8th to 10th May 2019 in London. AFSIC is a highly focused investment event and is believed to be the largest Africa investment event taking place annually in Europe and one of the most important Africa investor events globally. The success of the event resulted in it being SOLD OUT due to high demand in 2018 so early booking is advised.

1000+ Expected to Attend in 2019Business leaders from around 40 African countries are expected to attend in 2019, and with over 250+ speakers and participants in our country focused sessions, and an expected 1000+ delegates, AFSIC provides you with an unparalleled opportunity to develop and nurture a robust, high quality network of business contacts across the continent, providing multiple networking opportunities for African business leaders, investors and dealmakers to meet. A sophisticated Event and Meeting App allows delegates to prepare up to a month ahead for critical investment meetings allowing real deals to be concluded during the course of AFSIC.

Africa is the next big investment destinationAfrica is the second fastest growing region in the world. Multiple indicators suggest that Africa has entered a cycle of strong economic growth that will match that experienced by Asia over the past decades. Global investors are positioning themselves to understand the increasingly evident opportunities across Africa in greater depth. However with 54 countries in Africa travel time and costs can be prohibitive so bringing together many of the continent’s most exciting companies into one event at one time has proven to be extremely attractive to business leaders from Africa, investors and dealmakers.

OVERVIEW | AFRICA FINANCIAL SERVICES INVESTMENT CONFERENCE

Results Focused Investment Event

AFSIC has a strong focus on results; making investment decisions, originating and executing transactions, and raising debt or equity capital are the key objectives for delegates attending AFSIC. The programme is designed to provide delegates with multiple opportunities to achieve these objectives, whether through presentations from many of the continent’s leading investors, or through attending the many formal and informal networking sessions during the event. This strong result focus has resulted in AFSIC gaining considerable popularity with investors, dealmakers and business leaders from across Africa.

The wide spread of business leaders attending from across Africa attracts a significant proportion of major institutional investors focused on investment into Africa. These investors include listed and private equity firms, direct investors, endowments, foundations, family offices, private banks, sovereign wealth

funds, DFIs, IFIs, impact investors, microfinance investors alongside a wide range of African based investors, and fund of fund investors.

Don’t Miss Out, Join us!

AFSIC is fast becoming the premier investor event for Africa. Its mandate helps broaden horizons and broker new partnerships focussed on good quality, long-term investments in Africa. AFSIC aims to unlock a valuable dividend for both investors and companies operating within the new dynamic African economic environment.

We very much look forward to seeing you in London from 8th-10th May 2019, Park Plaza Westminster, London. Save the Date!

As a high quality investment focused event AFSIC attracts a wide variety of the most important investors in Africa such as: listed and private equity funds, direct investors, endowments, foundations, family offices, infrastructure funds, private banks, sovereign wealth funds, DFIs, IFIs, impact investors, microfinance investors alongside a wide range of African based investors, and fund of fund investors. Each of these investors has a different investment mandate. Some investors are debt focused while others are equity focused. Investor appetite ranges from the largest investors globally who would only invest $50m + into a project (such as some of the sovereign wealth funds) to those investors who are focused on smaller sized investments (event to as small as $250,000). It is advisable for African companies attending to target their one on one meetings at AFSIC to an investor whose investment mandate matches their own debt, equity or other requirement. It is advisable for business leaders attending AFSIC to spend time analysing which investors are attending, and their investment mandate utilising the intuitive integrated meeting & event app, which

opens one month prior to AFSIC, thus allowing a much more targeted approach to be taken during the event. Pre-arranging agendas and the provision of important deal information prior to AFSIC will assist the investors greatly. How do I arrange meetings with Investors or African companies at AFSIC?An intuitive Event and Meeting app is opened to all registered delegates one month prior to AFSIC. This allows investors or African companies the opportunity to arrange investment focused meetings well ahead of AFSIC.AFSIC delegates can then communicate their investment requirements, and explore investment parameters ahead of the event resulting in highly targeted investment meetings at AFSIC. Please note that all delegates attending AFSIC are responsible for arranging their own meetings and meeting schedules are not pre-prepared for attending delegates.Meeting spaces can be pre-reserved for the duration of AFSIC to facilitate meetings. This is encouraged where delegates envisage holding multiple meetings. In addition the agenda has been designed

to provide a number of networking events throughout the duration of AFSIC allowing multiple opportunities for interaction between the Senior Executives attending AFSIC.What are the Country sessions?Africa is a huge continent and it is very difficult for people to develop strong relationships across the entire continent due to the sheer size of Africa, and difficulties in travel. The sessions are informal and designed to provide a significant networking opportunity for delegates wishing to extend their network in the selected country. There are generally no formal speeches or presentations during the sessions. Can I reserve a meeting space to facilitate one to one meetings at AFSIC?If you envisage an intensive schedule of one to one meetings it is recommended that you pre-book an individual meeting space to facilitate meetings at AFSIC. How long is the AFSIC Event and Meeting app operational?

AFSIC delegates have access to a highly intuitive and interactive Event and Meeting app. The AFSIC Event and Meeting app is opened one month prior to AFSIC, and closed one week after AFSIC allowing delegates a significant time period prior to AFSIC to prepare for important meetings at the event.

Why is AFSIC held in Europe and not in Africa?

Many of the leading investors in Africa are based outside Africa. Europe provides a convenient location for these investors to congregate, and also provides a convenient hub for African companies attending to convene from different regions across the African continent. Our team also runs a wide array of investor trips to many countries across the continent – more details on these investor trips can be found at www.africaninvestments.co.

Do you Provide Delegate Lists?

You will be able to contact other delegates (those who wish to be contacted) attending AFSIC using the Event and Meeting app. This sophisticated and intuitive app opens one month before AFSIC allowing delegates to pre-arrange meetings in order to maximise their time at AFSIC. We do not provide delegate lists in other formats (e.g. excel)

this is for a number of reasons, including the fact that some delegates may wish not to promote their presence at the event, and that delegate lists are a static representation whereas delegates may wish to cancel or join in the run up to an event. Our app will be kept continually updated.

Do you provide sponsorship to attend AFSIC

Unfortunately we do not provide sponsorship for prospective delegates to attend AFSIC.

Why do we need to pay British VAT on our Delegate Tickets if we live overseas?

We are obliged by the UK tax authorities to charge VAT on event fees. However please note that UK VAT may be reclaimable for non UK and EU companies attending AFSIC. More information on the process and whether this is applicable for your company is available at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/vat-refunds-for-non-eu-businesses-visiting-the-uk

Conferences that take place in the UK are liable for UK VAT as they are classified under VAT legislation as ‘services supplied where performed’ and therefore VAT of the country hosting the conference must be charged. Overseas delegates must pay the VAT charged on their invoice initially but can potentially reclaim this back from the UK VAT office.

Language Requirements

The operational language for AFSIC is English, currently we do not offer simultaneous translation services.

Do I need a Visa?

To find out whether you require a visa please check the UK Border Agency website which can be accessed at:

https://www.gov.uk/check-uk-visa

It is highly recommended that you apply for your visa in good time prior to the conference as the British Visa system can be slow and there are no special dispensations from the British Government for delegates attending AFSIC. If you require an international invitation letter for visa purposes please complete the following international invitation letter request
