Chile is not only Latin America's best

evaluated economy but also one of the beste v a l u a t e d e m e r g i n g e c o n o m i e sinternationally.

Its hallmark stabil ity, transparency,competitiveness and excellent businessprospects position the country not only asthe best destination for foreign investment inLatin America but also as one of the world'sleading destinations.

This is reected in the global foreign directinvestment (FDI) gures published by theUnited Nations Conference on Trade andDevelopment (UNCTAD), according to whichChile was among the seven economies inwhich inbound FDI showed the highestgrowth in 2012. This reached a new record ofUS$30,323 million, positioning the countryfor the rst time as Latin America's secondlargest FDI recipient.

Chile is a leading player in the international mining industryand the world's largest copper producer. Mining companiesare forecast to invest US$104,000 million in Chile over thenext eight years.

This sector offers opportunities in fruit farming andagriculture, wine and other grape products, olives, meat anddairy products, salmon, support industries, processed foodsand biotechnology applied to the food industry.

Demand for electricity is forecast to grow at an annual rate ofbetween 6% and 7% through to 2020, calling for 8,000 MW innew projects or, in other words, a 50% increase in existinginstalled capacity. Chile has hydroelectric potential in thesouth, a favorable climate for solar plants in the north andideal natural conditions for renewable energies as well as theneed to diversify its matrix and increase energy independence.

Concessions projects in public works, including highways,ports and railways, represent a total potential investment ofUS$7,900 million.
