The jig, which was manufactured in India, has designed processing levels of 150 t/h of (-) 8 mm (+) 3 mm float ore (naturally liberated ore) to separate it from the siliceous rock. The 2.5 m wide jig, an APIC 17 jig, has three compartments and two shaft gates. Before the award of the contract for the jig, the suitability of APIC jigging technology for this application was proved in test work. This showed good grade and recovery, well within the expectations of the client. In addition to this, the jig couldrecover an additional 16 % by weight as middling productat a grade of 47 %, which would be utilised by the client infuture.The test work utilised a unique technique developed in-house for predicting the process performance ofindustrial-scale jigs by mathematically modelling test resultsfrom laboratory-scale air-pulsed jigs.The technique thus permits, with far greater confidence thanwas previously possible, selection of industrial systems thatwill provide an acceptable separation of the components ofjigged material in an economically feasible residence time.The technique applies the ASTRAD (Advanced StratificationTransport Rate And Diffusion) jig process model, which,amongst other valuable features, has the ability to determineimprovements in jig yield as a function of jig size and feed

It can also determine the range of yields achievableover an ore body that has a variable but known washability(density distribution), including ore blends.The APIC Jig is an efficient gravity separation process usedto clean saleable material from waste / raw material byseparating particles of different densities in a homogenousbed of granular material.
