The School of Literature and Languages at Reading is renowned for its
excellence in teaching and research. Our expertise ranges across allhistorical periods and includes writing and literature, art, cinema, theatre,
politics and linguistics
Course detailsThe European Cultures International Summer School is for undergraduate
students who want to gain insights into the history, literature and languages
of Europe. This course will give an opportunity to explore in depth: European
identity and issues; major European authors (Dante, Beckett); post-war European
literature and cinema; medieval and renaissance visual culture; language and
power; migration and European politics. Students will participate in academic
activities and debates led by our expert and internationally renowned team of
teachers and scholars.
Course beneftsBeing interdisciplinary, the European Cultures International Summer School
offers the chance to take an holistic approach to the study of European Culture
whilst at the same time allowing space for specialisation and focus on fundamen-
tal European issues. The course also gives the opportunity to combine creativity
with the study of literature, history and languages thanks to its unique work-
shops on creative writing. A eld trip to world-renowned museums and libraries
in nearby Oxford is included.
How you will be taughtYou will be taught by professors and lecturers from the Departments of Modern
Languages and European Studies, in addition to experts from other departments.
All our teachers are leading authorities in the cultural elds covered by the
Summer School. The University of Reading is committed to interactive and
stimulating teaching approaches. Hands-on activities and workshops will run
alongside more formal lectures and guest presentations. Student participation is
an integral part of our learning and teaching mission.
